What services does NHBC provide to the NI housebuilding sector? We’re the UK’s largest provider of new-build warranty and insurance, which is what most in the sector will know us for, but we offer so much more than that. We also provide building control and technical risk management services, land quality expertise and training and development opportunities. We see ourselves as a partner to the industry, helping developers build it right first time, offering support throughout the build journey. Skills development and training are also important parts of what we do. We recognise the skills gap is affecting delivery and we’re working with the wider industry to help tackle this. Our Brickwork and Roofing Masterclasses, for example, are a great way to learn best practice, improve build quality and raise standards on site. They’re fully funded by CITB NI, so are offered cost-free to participants. We’ve partnered with the Association of Brickwork Contractors and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors to help deliver these and they represent our ongoing commitment to raising standards in home building in Northern Ireland. Who are your clients in NI? We work with all the major housebuilders of course, as well as smaller developers. It’s not just builders we work with though; housing associations and local authorities and the build-to-rent (BTR) sector are also among our clients. Two major projects we’re currently working on are with Braidwater Group; we’re helping it deliver the two biggest social housing schemes in Northern Ireland - The Cashel on the Buncrana Road in Derry-Londonderry and the other is a new mixed-use urban village at Glenmona in West Belfast. These two sites will deliver 3,700 homes between them and will significantly relieve demand for social housing in the city. NHBC is providing Construction Quality Reviews and on- site training, as well as warranty and insurance.
