Ian Cairns from CTS – Connect Transform Sustain was awarded with an Unsung Hero Award at Northern Ireland’s Plumbing & Heating Awards 2021. Ian has been involved in the plumbing and heating sector for over 40 years. In his day job as a Commercial Oil Engineer for CTS – Connect Transform Sustain, he is known for his tireless work ethic and commitment to getting the job done. This was well displayed in recent months as Ian continued to carry out essential services throughout the pandemic, visiting care homes to carry out emergency jobs and supporting many of the most vulnerable within our community. Described by colleagues as selfless, Ian is always keen to pass on his experience by training new operatives and apprentices

as well as getting involved as a fundraiser for CTS Charity Partner, Action Mental Health. Customers, colleagues and the 2021 judging panel all agree that Ian is a true hero within the industry, and a very deserving winner of this award.

John Weatherill, Brand Manager at Plumbmaster in Bangor was the winner of a 2021 Unsung Hero Award. John – or Tiny as he is known to everyone - has been a much-loved personality in the NI plumbing and heating industry for many years. However, this Unsung Hero award is in recognition of his phenomenal fundraising efforts for charity, which include completing a 145 mile walk around nearly every Plumbmaster branch in Northern Ireland with a 15 kilo boiler strapped to his back to raise money for The Welcome Centre charity. In the last three years alone, Tiny has raised over £10,000 for The Welcome Centre and Addiction NI, and his fundraising shows no signs of slowing down, with a charity walk currently being organised alongside his fostered

son, Wee John, for the Helping Hand charity which supports the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Tiny continues to be an inspiration for the entire industry and, as our judges agreed, a worthy winner of our Unsung Hero award.
