Resources controlled • The Senior Building Surveyor may have responsibility for the management of a small team of assistant/junior building surveying/clerk of works and other staff and may, from time to time, manage temporary staff. • External consultants. • External contractors. • Individual project budgets for maintenance, minor and capital works. • Multi-project programme budgets. Decision making • Decisions concerning the supervision and management of the post-holder’s team (and any other temporary staff reporting to the post-holder) and their workload. • The post-holder is responsible for the implementation of multi-disciplinary projects and project programmes and is expected to make all necessary decisions commensurate with their management. • Other technical and professional decisions relating to the University estate and building works, including those relating to health and safety. • Decisions necessary when deputising for the Assistant Director, LTM, Minor Works & Estate Management. Contacts Will interact with a very broad range of senior staff across the wider University including College PVCs and DCO’s, Professional Services Directors, other senior CIOSS staff and Project Working Group members. They will also have contact from time to time with the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Committee members, members of the Guild Executive and students. External contacts include contractors, suppliers and consultants, and contacts at government bodies, institutions, other organisations and the public. Other Duties • Update the Assistant Director, LTM, Minor Works & Estate Management, regarding progress and any other relevant factors on a minimum weekly basis. • Check and arrange signatures for contract and other legal documents. • Consult with the University solicitors on legal matters relating to building development/ tenancies. • Act as mentor to junior members of staff and work experience students. • Participate in team meetings, including updating the team with recently attended CPD events. • Will go about duties in a resource efficient way, minimising impacts to the environment wherever possible.
