Dress Code 2022.2023

DRESS CODE: Uniform Policy 2022-2023 Kindergarten – Eighth Grade

Students are required to arrive at school properly attired. Clothing should be clean, neat, and well fitting. The uniform is expected to be in good repair with no writing or tears. All boys are required to arrive at school with a legitimate kippah. Students are expected to have a neat, orderly appearance. Hair color must be a naturally occurring color, no extreme colors. Levine Academy reserves the right to determine if hairstyle, length, and color are appropriate. Dress Uniform* Dress Uniforms are required on specified Dress Uniform days. All “Dress Uniform” shirts require the embroidered Levine Academy logo (Black logo polo for Kindergarten through Seventh Grade and Blue logo polo for Eighth Grade only). If sweatshirts, fleece jackets, vests, and sweaters are worn within the school as part of the Dress Uniform, items must be approved outerwear. Dress Uniform is required on: - Erev Shabbat (Friday, except when it is a designated Kehilla Kedosha Shabbat) - Field trips - Grandparent’s Day - Student Orientation days - The first day of school, and any other days deemed appropriate by the Administration. Regular Uniform* Kindergarten through Seventh Grade’s daily uniform can consist of black logo polo or white logo polo with khaki bottom or plaid skirt/skort, or plaid jumper with any of the approved polos stated above. Eighth Grade’s daily uniform consists of the blue logo polo with khaki bottom or plaid skirt/skort. The regular uniform is worn Monday-Thursday (Friday is a dress uniform day, see above.) Kindergarteners are allowed to leave their shirts untucked and do not have to wear a belt with their pants or shorts. First through Eighth Grade require all students to have their shirts tucked-in. Boys must wear a belt with pants or shorts (if there are belt loops). * All items must be purchased from Mills Wear School Uniforms unless otherwise noted. (See Outerwear section) Girls’ Uniform Required Items - Black short- or long-sleeved polo shirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo - Khaki bottom (twill pleated skirt, skort, long pants, or shorts). Modesty shorts or leggings are required under skirts. - Belt (if there are belt loops) - Solid white or black socks (no patterns) - Shoes with a closed toe and closed heel; sole of no more than 1”; no (high) heels. No boots are allowed (includes Ugg® type boots and shoes) - Eighth Grade only: Blue short- or long-sleeved polo shirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo Non-Compulsory / Optional Items - White short or long-sleeved logo polo shirt - Levine Plaid pleated skirt (modesty shorts or leggings required) - Levine Plaid skort - Levine Plaid jumper (K-2 only) (modesty shorts or leggings required) - Solid black or white turtleneck or solid black or white t-shirt underneath any shirt

- Shoes (not boots) with a closed toe and closed heel: sole of no more than 1” - Legitimate kippah - Eighth Grade only: Blue short- or long-sleeved polo shirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo Non-Compulsory / Optional Items - White short or long-sleeved polo shirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo - Khaki twill long pants or twill shorts - Solid black or white turtleneck or solid black or white t-shirt underneath any shirt - Legitimate kippah OUTERWEAR – Boys and Girls, Grades Kindergarten – Eighth Grade - Black round neck sweatshirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo - Black polar fleece zipped jacket with embroidered Levine Academy logo - Black hooded sweatshirt with embroidered Levine Academy logo - Spirit Wear Sweatshirts* Overcoats are not regulated in the Uniform Policy. They may be purchased anywhere. *Available to order from online store, check email for more information in late July/early August. Kippot: All boys are required to arrive at school with a kippah and wear it at all times except during physical education. It must be a legitimate kippah. Suede, cotton, poly/cotton, knit, velvet, satin, and Bukharian/Yemenite kippot are allowed. Kippot must be kept on the head by way of clip(s), pin(s), or Velcro. Kippot may be purchased anywhere. • Belts: Belts are required for both boys and girls on any item of clothing that has belt loops, which includes all the shorts and pants that are part of our collection. Belts may be purchased anywhere. Kindergarten students are not required to wear a belt. • Socks: Solid black or solid white socks are allowed; no beads or other ornamentation. Socks may be purchased anywhere. • Shoes: Shoes must be a low-cut style with closed toe and closed back: No high tops, platform type soles, or soles with cutouts, lights, or any other type of deviation from a plain sole (any color). Canvas and leather shoes are both acceptable. No (high) heels are allowed. Shoes may be purchased anywhere. No boots are allowed. • Turtlenecks and T-shirts: Solid black or white turtlenecks and solid t-shirts may be purchased anywhere. • Skirts/Jumpers/Skorts: In most cases, moderate length, no shorter than three and a half (3½ inches) inches above the knee. The hem must be the appropriate length in front and back of the legs. Skirts shorter than regulation are not acceptable. Consider growth spurts, if altering skirt length. No waistband rolling is allowed. This applies to jumpers, skirts and skorts worn with leggings. A longer than standard length skirt may be purchased, if desired.  Modesty Shorts, Leggings or Tights: Modesty shorts, leggings or tights may be purchased anywhere and are required under all skirts and jumpers. Opaqu e tights and/or leggings, not ribbed, patterned, or textured, in solid black or white, are allowed. Leggings are allowed to be worn with skirt/uniform skirt, tunic or appropriate length t- shirt. • Shirts: All shirts must be tucked in. • Hair color must be a naturally occurring color, no extreme colors. • No temporary or permanent tattoos may be visible. • No body piercings other than the ears are permitted. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION •

All students are expected to adhere to the Uniform Policy.

If a child’s clothing is not in compliance with the dress code, we will send a letter home that day via email as to avoid embarrassing the student. The letter will include a reminder of the appropriate dress code. On the second offense, the student who does not meet the dress code standards will be asked to change. Students who continually ignore the dress code will receive an appropriate consequence. *** Please label all clothing with your child’s name ***

DRESS CODE: Physical Education Boys and Girls, Kindergarten – Eighth Grade - Athletic shoes - Long hair must be tied back - Jewelry is discouraged and is permitted only at the discretion of the Athletic Director Additional Physical Education requirements for Middle School Grades 5-8: - Assigned P.E. Shirt with Levine logo - Black basketball-style shorts or black sweatpants -- No short shorts or leggings. - Changing clothes for P.E. is a requirement. Dollars4Denim Monthly, Student Congress-sponsored charity drive in which K-8 students may donate $1 to the designated charity of the month to wear jeans to school, or $5 for a free dress day.  Clothing should be clean and in good repair.  Shorts must be below the fingertips of extended arms.  Exercise discretion regarding slogans or advertisement on clothing. Any slogan or design, which is suggestive, vulgar, or violent, is not appropriate.  Shirts, which are lightweight and/or “see-through,” are not appropriate.  Shirts showing any part of the midriff, cut-off shirts, tank tops, and muscle shirts may not be worn.  Leggings are allowed to be worn with skirt/uniform skirt, tunic or appropriate length t- shirt.  No pajama bottoms. Spirit Wear Days Spirit Wear Days occur on Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the new Hebrew month--these days are indicated in your school calendar. Spirit Wear is sold through the PA’s Spirit Wear committee.  Spirit Wear Days are not free dress days; if not wearing spirit wear, official uniforms are required.  Spirit Wear is defined as any clothing item (top or bottom) with Levine Academy officially designated on it. Students wearing only top or bottom spirit wear must wear opposite uniform item.  Approved Spirit Wear tops must be worn with approved Spirit Wear bottoms (Black Levine logo athletic shorts), uniform bottoms or jeans.  Leggings are allowed to be worn with skirt, tunic or appropriate length t- shirt. Kehilla Kedosha Days (one Friday each month) and Zimriyah  One Friday a month is designated as Kehilla Kedosha Shabbat and students are to wear their special Kehilla Kedosha T-shirts with jeans or uniform bottoms ( Leggings are allowed to be worn with skirt/uniform skirt, tunic or appropriate length t- shirt. ).  Kehilla Kedosha T-shirts are provided by the school prior to the first event. Lost and Found Each month, lost and found items are sorted and those that are not claimed, after a note has been sent, are given to a worthy charity. Please label all clothing with your child’s name.
