MOTIVATION TO BE THE VERY BEST Barbara Mitchell on Love, Integrity, Fun and Togetherness

When I was in high school, I would pass by the bank and see the employees inside. They looked well-dressed, professional and progressive, and I wanted to be the same. Seeing them at work was

more welcoming environment, not just for the people who work here, but for clients and others who visit every day.

Another aspect of the job I love is the people I get to work with. Everyone comes in with common goals, and they deliver on different strengths, personalities and creative minds. On top of that, we succeed in having an open and honest workplace where each person is heard and can freely share what is happening in their space without the fear of it being held against them. Out of the office, I have many passions, including God, self-development and family. As a woman of faith, I love to attend church. I was bestowed with the honour of becoming Deaconess in my church, which is second- tiered leadership in my church. Some other interests include reading, motivational speaking and watching nature. I love going on a drive and seeing the creation around me. It’s what centres me — to know that there is a God who created me and all this beauty around me. I love reading because it helps me experience another perspective through someone else’s lens and learn from others. Through my motivational speaking I encourage women to find their purpose and to fulfil it under God, encouraging them to know they can be anything they want to be through discovering who they are in Christ. Last, but not least, families are the foundation of any given nation and society. Family is the primary institution for development and learning. When the family is healthy, the church, workplace and schools will have people who know who they are and will be confident in what they do. I am passionate about families being functional, so I encourage people to have healthy family lives. I believe anyone can turn their dreams into reality if they believe in themselves. JMMB is a dynamic organization that helps people find their passions so they can live those passions every day. That makes for a happier employee who will produce at their optimum — which, in turn, makes our clients happy! –Barbara Mitchell

motivating and that is what drove me to pursue a career in the financial industry.

I have worked in the financial industry for over 20 years now. I

worked in commercial banking for seven years before I transitioned to investment banking after joining JMMB in 2001. Since then, I have taken on the role of Branch Operations Manager.

In a nutshell, I ensure the procedures for various processes are adhered to, and that our day-to-day operations are in compliance with the standards set by our regulatory bodies. I guide our team members in best practices and make sure everyone is on the same page. I coach and mentor team members to become their best selves. Joining the JMMB team was the best career move I ever made. The stories you hear about JMMB being a loving place to work are all true. When you go into work each day, you don’t feel the stress of “work,” and it all comes back to the work environment, along with the work atmosphere and the people. JMMB embodies its pillars of Love, Integrity, Fun and Togetherness, or LIFT. We live these values every day in our interactions with one another and with our clients. We do everything we can to stand for each other’s greatness, motivating one another to be our very best selves, personally and professionally. One of my favourite aspects of working at JMMB is the physical environment in which we work. The offices are structured for comfort and style — and not in the typical fashion of a financial institution. It creates a

THE BEST TIME TO BOOK A FLIGHT Save Big on Airfare With This Simple Rule

In case you haven’t noticed, travelling is expensive. It can feel like you’re

given trip go up or down an average of 71 times, about $33 each shift. When you purchase your flight is nearly as important as where you’re going. But how do you choose a booking window that will maximize your savings? According to the CheapAir.com study, in which they evaluated 921 million airfares, the best time to book is 21–105 days in advance of your flight, on average. If you want to get even more specific, try to book 55–75 days out, and book on a Sunday. Many travellers swear by Tuesday and Wednesday bookings, but as Condé Nast Traveler reports, Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation say that Sunday is the way to go, based on data from billions of flights. Tuesday and Wednesday are usually the cheapest days to actually fly, though. The CheapAir.com study also pinpoints the absolute best windows for specific seasons: 54 days for winter trips, 75 days for spring, 76 days for summer and 45 days for fall. Of course, these are averages, but if you stick to these rules and check fares regularly on sites like Kayak.com, SkyScanner.com, Momondo.com and on the handy app Hopper, you can rest easy knowing you’re getting close to the best price possible.

signing away your soul when you sit down to plan a vacation. But when it comes to flights,

there’s good news: They’re getting cheaper!

According to a 2017 report published by online travel company ODIGEO, long-distance trips across Europe fell 7 percent last year. Luckily,

the same trend is reflected in North American airlines as they engage in a price war to woo a growing base of ultrafrugal travellers.

Still, a $600 summer flight to Honolulu isn’t exactly pocket change. What’s worse, flight prices are slippery; CheapAir.com’s 2017 Annual Airfare Study determined that the fares for any
