9.2 Community and social responsibility Supporting children - SOS Children’s Villages
Acting on the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Air Serbia organized a special evacuation flight for Serbian citizens. On 19 June, an Airbus A319 operated a special service from Belgrade to Sharm El Sheikh and back, bringing 38 Serbian citizens who had been evacuated from Israel safely home to Belgrade. As the national carrier, Air Serbia plays an important role in supporting citizens in crisis situations, contributing to society beyond its regular commercial operations.
Air Serbia maintains an ongoing cooperation with the SOS Children's Villages Serbia Foundation, focused on supporting children from socially vulnerable families. During the year this partnership resulted in two distinct initiatives. School supplies donation in Kraljevo Ahead of World Humanitarian Day, Air Serbia donated school supplies to children at the SOS Children's Village in Kraljevo. The donation provided school equipment for 39 girls and boys from socially vulnerable families attending the first four grades of primary school, helping make the start of the school year easier and more enjoyable. Through initiatives such as this, Air Serbia continues to contribute actively to the local community, with particular attention to supporting children and their development.
On arrival at Niš airport, the children were welcomed by representatives of Air Serbia and SOS Children's Villages, received their boarding passes and passed through check-in, passport control and security just like regular passengers. Curious about every step, they asked questions about flight procedures, from fastening seatbelts to the safety demonstration, and applauded the pilots and crew as the Airbus A319 took off for Belgrade. After landing, the children received personalized backpacks filled with small gifts and were introduced to the company's pilots, cabin crew and engineers, who showed them around the airport, including Air Serbia's hangar and Flight Operations building. The initiative aimed to create an unforgettable experience for children from vulnerable communities and to inspire them to dream big, while raising public awareness of the importance of supporting families in need. It was later named the best socially responsible campaign of the year in the Social category at the Campaigns with Purpose 2025 awards (see Chapter 4.3).
My First Flight with Air Serbia - a Journey to Remember
Medical travel support
Earlier in the year, marking the International Day of Families, Air Serbia and the SOS Children's Villages Serbia Foundation carried out the joint project My First Flight with Air Serbia - a Journey to Remember . Twenty-five children from socially vulnerable families, part of the Foundation's Family Strengthening programme, took their first-ever flight, accompanied by their parents or guardians.
Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, Air Serbia supported citizens requiring medical treatment at specialized institutions abroad. In 2025, the company transported five patients to the United Kingdom, following six patients transported to Switzerland in 2024, helping ensure that those in need could reach specialized care.
