schools during which parents can help their children with reading and mathematics skil- ls, wellness fairs for students, community safety events, and digital literacy events. Parents should contact their parents council to find out what PRO-Grant events may be taking at their child’s school. UCDSB Director Workplan Superintendent Nieman gave UCDSB trustees an update on district efforts to work on improving student skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Some of the focus was on using interac- tive resources and digital tools like UFLI and Knowledgehook to encourage students to read and practice their writing and nume- racy skills. Teachers were also encouraged to use classroom-based activities like Challenge Quest or gameshow scenarios as methods that focus on literarcy and mathematics. The UCDSB is also use of Son-au-graphe in the K-2 French Immersion program to help strengthen the early reading and spelling skills for very young students as they also develop their bilingual skills. The district is also using “culturally res- ponsive” education methods to support Indigenous students that help build their sense of cultural identity and academic success.

Trustees for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) received an update on a provincial program to help parents become more involved in their children’s education. The UCDSB PRO-Grants funding is managed through the district’s Parent Involvement Committee (PIC). The district received $47,000 in PRO-Grant funding for the 2025-2026 term. The PIC has received proposals from 48 school councils for review with 42 of the proposals meeting the PRO-Grant funding requirements.
