EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS 2 ADVANCEMENTS NEW

Renewed Commitment After achieving Senior Director 9 in May 2016, Alvin Lim slid into his comfort zone for about 10 months, but wasn’t in a hurry to change things up. Life was great for him and his family-a life free of financial stress with the stable residual income from Melaleuca, better education options for his children, and annual family trips. There was a sense of contentment, but it wasn’t until Convention 2017 that he realized not to take things for granted and to get back into action. “It struck me at Convention 2017 that I was in a lull. I found that my team and I were not committed to our daily activities, and I committed to make things better-to lead by example and engage in Critical Activities 1 and 2,” Alvin explains. Alvin’s renewed commitment to his Melaleuca business also stemmed from his observation of the current economic downturn and instability. “I see my peers living a rat race life and facing financial instability, while I don’t have to go through it. In fact, the results that I get from my Melaleuca business only gets better each month from the hard work I put in previously,” he says. Prior to building his Melaleuca business in January 2010, Alvin was a civil engineer by profession-in employment for 3 years and subsequently, in his own construction business for 10 years. The latter was really tough as it was project based, which were not easy to obtain and difficult to come by at times. Couple that with the fact that payments were not always guaranteed, which equaled to an unpredictable income and stressful life. That was not a life he and Espy wanted, and they enrolled with Melaleuca to build a business that will last for generations to come. That was a decision they were glad they made. “The income security that Melaleuca provides is incomparable to whatever I was doing previously,” Alvin discloses. He notes that while being financially stable was one of his main reasons for joining Melaleuca, it was also because the company’s products have afforded his family a better quality of life. “There’s a marked difference in terms of our quality of life and energy level. Not only that, Espy’s sinus problem have improved drastically!” says Alvin, on how Melaleuca has enhanced their lives. Realizing that he shouldn’t be resting on his laurels any longer, he committed to move forward and also motivate his team in stepping up their game. “It was time to go back to the basics of Critical Activities 1 and 2,” Alvin says. He started by pledging to add an average of 20 new names to his contact list monthly and also establishing a chat group with 10 to 15 business partners reporting their daily activities, reviving the accountability system. “I knew that I needed to show a good example and lead by doing-reporting my daily activities to show accountability,” Alvin explains. Not only that, he also created smaller groups for a better support system, including video calls for business builders located out of Kuala Lumpur to ensure participation. His team members were also required to set goals at the beginning of every month. “This is an important part of their journey as business builders because when they are clear about their goals, they will less likely lose focus,” Alvin shares, noting that it was also easier

to hold his team members accountable throughout the month should they lose sight of their goals. This helps the business builders focus on the activities they need to do to reach their goals, rather than chasing for enrollments aimlessly. Alvin knows for a team to work together and move forward, he also had to dive deep into any possible roadblocks hindering their progress. He discovered that his existing business builders faced the same challenge he did-they have clear goals in mind but lack the basic activities needed to move their business forward. “I spent time coaching them on and repeating the importance of the basic activities that they need to be consistent with to achieve their goals. It helps when they recall their WHY, so they have a strong motivation to push on,” Alvin discloses. As for new business builders, Alvin focused on discovering the challenges they have in carrying out Critical Activities 1 to 3. “It was more of coaching them how to overcome their fears and challenges, how to build relationships and how to make effective approaches to build their confidence.” Alvin is motivated to keep helping his team members face their personal hurdles. He says, “My personal Director 2 Lee Chee Pin, who is a single mother and a realtor, has been facing distractions along her journey of building the Melaleuca business. I’ve been encouraging her to recall her WHY to keep her on track, and with the property market being so unstable now, it could not be a more opportune time for her to get the ball rolling again. She is looking to achieve the Director 3 status in August.” Melaleuca is a relationship based business and Alvin explains that it shouldn’t matter where they’re based, as technology has made communication barriers obsolete. He says, “You need to listen to and understand your leaders especially when they face certain challenges. You need to dig deep into their fear and help them overcome it.” Director 4 Edwin Tan from Penang can attest to that. Alvin provides coaching and support to Edwin via WeChat video calls, ensuring that they address his challenges together and focus on building the business the right way. “It doesn’t matter where my business builders are located. As long as they are motivated and coachable, they will be able to do well. Edwin has been very committed to doing Critical Activities 1 and 2 from the very beginning.” Alvin’s renewed commitment and team activities have certainly paid off as he broke through the lull he was in, and advanced to Executive Director in April 2017 and to Executive Director 2 just a month later. “It is true that success is attainable in Melaleuca when we focus on the 7 Critical Activities, especially Critical Activities 1 to 3. Look at all the successful leaders we have at Melaleuca today!” Alvin reiterates his key take-away from the recent Standing Senior Leadership Council (SSLC) in Bangkok. “I’m filled with hope and am committed to increase my personal activities so that my team will follow. After all, I believe one can only truly lead a team by their own example,” Alvin shares. There is no slowing Alvin down now. He wants to keep his momentum going and is committed to enrolling 4 customers and developing 1 personal Director each month. “Not only that, this year I will develop 3 new Senior Directors and advance to Executive Director 6,” he declares.
