Lonoke PT_Getting to the Core of Back and Neck Pain

If you suffer from an aching back or neck, it could simply be that your core muscles are weak. You may have heard of the term “core”, but what is it? Your core is the foundation of your body and like a building, needs to be strong and supportive. If your foundation is weak or crooked, then the other parts of your body, which rely on this, will not function properly. The timing and strength of various muscle contractions is critical for your proper body function. If your timing is off and your muscles are weak, abnormal strains occur to your spine, causing a lot of common aches and pains.

“You Can’t Experience a Merry Christmas In Pain!” GETTING TO THE CORE OF BACK & NECK PAIN

Your coremuscles consist of awide variety of skeletal muscles that keep you erect and help youmove around on two feet. The core is a group of muscles in the pelvis, spine, abdominal and upper thigh areas. These muscles are arranged in different angles that are layered to give you support and stability. Most people suffer from back pain at some point Most people will experience back pain some time in their life due to core muscle weakness. When the spinal joints, hip joints, sacroiliac joints and the muscles of the abdomen, pelvis, spine and hips don’t movewell, a resulting strain occurs on the spine. This causes pain and can occur at any stage of life. However, this typically happens as we become older and less active as adults. How does the core become weak and stiff? A simple answer: use it or lose it. Our lifestyles today put us at risk for back and neck pain with prolonged sitting at work, sitting in the car, bending forward, watchingTV, poor posture and many other factors which contribute to core weakness. Once the core is weakened, the weight of your body rests on your spinal discs, joints and ligaments causing long term damage. At Lonoke & ProMotion Physical Therapy we know the right movements and manual techniques that have been proven to help patients get back to an active and healthy lifestyle.

Mr. Adams began therapy with a history for chronic low back pain that he had been suffering with for at least 5 years. Upon beginning therapy, he was skeptical if therapy would even benefit him, but 4 weeks into treatment he became a believer. After wondering if the pain would ever get better, he began to start having less pain with his daily activities. He raves about how much his mobility has improved and reports increased ease with standing up from sitting, walking and is eager to get back out on the golf course with his improved low back motion. Check out his success story to the right. “Let’s start off with what brought me in here. Severe back pain and a mobility problem. I couldn’t get up or down, or walk around the house very well. The back pain has lessened to quite a degree and the mobility has increased by 75%. My overall feeling of health is coming back. There is a definite improvement in my overall well-being. I am now able to get up from a full sitting position to standing up. That’s improved 100%. I can turn better which will help me turn on a ball a lot easier during my golf game. All my close friends tell me how much better I am walking. The staff is excellent! I recommend ProMotion Physical Therapy to anyone with low back problems and mobility issues.” - Wes A. “The back pain has lessened to quite a degree and the mobility has increased!”
