Dussault’s complaint resulted in an investigation by then-Integrity Commis- sioner John Saywell who filed a report early in 2021. The report included recommended sanctions to the deal with the complaint. Last December Dussault also filed a $200,000 lawsuit against the mayor and the Town of Hawkesbury. Dussault told council during its April 25 session that she received a letter from the municipality stating that results of a remedial action investigation would be discussed but the subject was not on the agenda for the closed session part of the April 25 council meeting.

Robert Lefebvre has decided he wants to sit at the head of council for the Town of Hawkesbury. Lefebvre announced on his Facebook page that he will seek the position of mayor in the October municipal election. He filed his nomination papers Monday, May 2. «I believe that the experience as municipal councillor during the past four years will allow me to bring about a ‘positive and a progressive change’ as to the future direction of our town,» Lefebvre stated. «Also, my knowledge as the former clerk-treasurer of the Township of Champlain will enable me to unite the municipal council and its employees for the benefit of all of us.» During a later phone interview Lefebvre said that for the past year he has been considering making a bid for the mayor’s chair rather than run for reelection as a councillor for a second term. He described himself as a communicator and indicated that as one of his best assets along with his past experience in municipal affairs working for Champlain Township. «I’ve been living on the same street and in the same house since I was eight,” said Lefebvre, 67. “Hawkesbury is my town. APPROBATION DU MONUMENT À LA FRANCOPHONIE

Un monument pour honorer le patrimoine francophone du canton d’Alfred-Plan- tagenet deviendra une future partie du parc Larocque dans le village d’Alfred. Le conseil municipal accorde son appui officiel au projet. La prochaine étape consiste pour le comité du monument à commencer à planifier un prélèvement collecte de fonds pour le projet et à travailler avec le personnel du canton sur les détails de l’emplacement final du monument dans le parc. L’automne dernier, France Lamarche a présenté au conseil une proposition visant à ériger un monument dédié à la francophonie au parc Larocque. La proposition suggérait qu’un site pourrait être désigné dans le stationnement du parc, près du trottoir longeant la rue Philippe. Le personnel du canton a été chargé de rencontrer Mme Lafrance et les membres du comité du monument mis sur pied par plusieurs citoyens qui militent en faveur du projet. Les deux parties se sont rencontrées en décembre 2021 et en mars 2022 pour discuter des détails et des réunions d’exa- men du site du parc ont eu lieu en février et en mars. La proposition finale sur laquelle le comité du monument et le canton se sont mis d’accord stipule que le canton restera propriétaire du site où le monument sera érigé, mais que le comité sera propriétaire du monument lui-même et assumera toutes les responsabilités juridiques et financières du projet.
Le service des travaux publics a déter- miné que l’érection du monument n’aura aucun impact sur les infrastructures souter- raines existantes et Hydro 2000 a également apporté son soutien au projet et a assuré le conseil municipal dans une lettre que le monument proposé n’aura aucun impact sur les lignes électriques existantes. Le person- nel du canton a également déterminé que l’emplacement du monument proposé n’aura pas d’incidence sur le travail de déneigement du trottoir ou du stationnement. Le comité du monument va maintenant commencer à travailler sur son plan financier. Le coût du projet est estimé à 250 000 $ et sa construction devrait prendre deux ans. How to manage animal waste
Animal waste contains many useful and recyclable components. However, if incorrectly stored, it can negatively impact soil, water and air quality. Here are a couple of the most common animal waste management strategies. DRY STACKING Dry stacking animal waste involves piling solid manure and soiled livestock bedding in a covered storage bin with a concrete bottom. Farmers must ensure the pile is
compacted, covered and sealed to prevent manure nutrients from leaching into the soil. Dry-stacked manure can be treated with additives such as lime to help reduce unpleasant smells and deter pests. COMPOSTING Composting manure involves turning over a pile of animal waste several times until it breaks down into a stable organic form. Composted manure is dense in nutrients and free of parasites and weed seeds. Many
farmers use composted manure on field crops to improve the soil’s water-holding capacity and significantly reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers. Farms can also hire a certified manure hauler to come and remove animal waste from their property. Haulers either take the manure to a centralized composting facility or spread it on farmland.

3 ways to reduce water consumption on the farm
Crop scouting: aerial imagery
Water conservation has always been a con- cern for farmers in drought-prone regions. However, the worsening impacts of climate change have exacerbated the problem worldwide. Here are three ways to reduce water consumption on your farm. 1. SOIL MANAGEMENT Incorporating proper soil management techniques can drastically conserve water on your farm. For example, practicing zero tilling, usingmulch and planting cover crops can all help the soil retain more moisture. 2. WATER RECYCLING Many parts of North America see a lot of rain in the springtime, which can cause significant water drainage from fields. A drainage water recycling system will capture this excess water in a pond or reservoir. The system will store it temporarily until it’s needed to water crops later in the growing season.
3. DRIP IRRIGATION If you already irrigate your crops, you may want to consider investing in drip irrigation. These systems reduce runoff and evaporation, saving up to 80 per cent more water than traditional spray systems. This type of watering allows moisture to penetrate deeply into the soil, leading to better growth.

Be sure to consider your crop scouting needs and the type of information you want to gather before choosing an imagery source.

3 tips for improving pastureland
Grain-fed vs grass-fed beef
Grass-fed and grain-fed are terms used to describe the feeding program for grazing animals like cattle. Here’s an overview of what these terms mean for the beef you’re eating. GRAIN-FED While most cattle are raised eating grass, many farmers “finish” their cows on feed mixtures made from grains and corn. This process fattens the cattle up faster and gets them to market sooner.
While there’s nothing harmful about grain finishing, it does change the composition and flavour of the meat. For example, grain fed beef is heavily marbled and has a buttery, slightly sweet taste. Most people describe it as melt-in-your-mouth tender. GRASS-FED Grass-fed beef comes fromcattle that spend their entire lives eating grass. Typically, they graze on pastureland in the spring and summer, then eat hay in the fall and winter Raising beef this way takes a lot of time, as grass-fed animals take six to 12 months longer to reach market weight than grain fed animals. This extra time makes it more expensive for the rancher and the consumer
Properly managed pastureland produces high-quality forage and lengthens the gra- zing season, ultimately reducing feed costs. Here are three tips for improving the quality of your pastureland. 1. ROTATE To prevent overgrazing, create a rotational grazing scheme. For example, subdivide large pastures into smaller ones and rotate your animals through these fields. Ideally, you should let the grass reach 15 to 20 cen- timetres high before putting your animals out to graze. Remove them from the field when the grass gets down to eight or 10 cen- timetres. 2. MOW AND HARROW It’s a good idea to mow your pasture after your animals have grazed. Mowing helps even out the grass height and encourages the plants to produce more leaves and fe-
wer stems, resulting in a more palatable and hardy grass. It also helps control ag- gressive weeds like thistle. You may want to consider harrowing your pasture after your animals have finished grazing. This helps break up manure piles and evenly distribute nutrients throughout the soil. Dispersing manure piles also helps control parasites and insects. 3. FERTILIZE Like all plants, grass requires nutrients to grow. Therefore, it’s essential to take regu- lar soil samples and follow fertilizer recom- mendations. Think of pasture management as grass far- ming: the grass is the crop, and the animals harvest it.
Grass-fed beef is leaner and darker in colou than grain-fed beef and has a slightly gamey taste. It is somewhat higher in nutrients like beta carotene and vitamin E. It also has more omega-3 fatty acids. Despite variations in cost and taste, both grain- and grass-fed beef are excellent sour ces of protein, B vitamins, iron and zin c.

An Ottawa man ran from Orleans to Hawkesbury and back again over the weekend to raise money and awareness for mental health. Over the weekend of May 7-8, Samuel Brazeau ran the entire length of the Pres- cott-Russell Recreational Trail twice. The trail spans the entire region from Ottawa to Hawkesbury and was once part of a railway SPVUF UIBUDPOOFDUFE/FX:PSL$JUZXJUI Quebec City, but over the weekend it was a driving force of awareness and positive change. Brazeau ran the trail from Orleans to Hawkesbury and back again to raise awareness for mental health. Brazeau’s passion for mental health began six years ago, when he quit a long career in dirt-biking that began at the age of three. For 15 years, he trained and competed on the dirt-biking circuit, but it was only when he was gearing up to enter big leagues of adult competitions that he realized that he wasn’t happy. He’d been dealing with anxiety and depression for years at that point, the pressure of performing and reaching ever greater heights compounding, until he finally reached a breaking point. “I had to stop that because of mental health, because it was driving me to a point of anxiety, depression, and suicidal

Les Hawks de Hawkesbury tirent de l’arrière 3-0 en finale de la Coupe Bogart contre les Junior Senators d’Ottawa. La première rencontre de la finale avait lieu à Ottawa jeudi dernier. Les changements de momentum furent nombreux durant la partie. Les Sens ont inscrit les deux premiers buts du match, les Hawks ont répliqué en enfilant deux buts pour créer l’égalité, puis les Sens ont rajouté deux autres buts, mais les Hawks ont à nouveau créé l’égalité après avoir retiré leur gardien de but alors qu’il restait plus de deux minutes à écouler à la troisième période. Après une première période de prolon- gation sans but, c’est finalement Philippe Jacques qui a enfilé le but victorieux pour les Junior Senators. Jérémy Quesnel, William Gendron et Eric Chamandy ont inscrit un but et une passe chacun dans la défaite pour les Hawks, Rylee Hlusiak a enfilé l’autre but des Hawks et Jérémy Tremblay, Félix Sauvé, Josh Spratt et Ryan Murphy ont obtenu une mention d’aide chacun. La CNS rappelle aux pêcheurs à la ligne qu’il est dangereux et illégal, en vertu de la Loi fédéral sur les pêches, de pêcher à moins de 23 mètres d’un barrage. La pêche à proximité des barrages pose un risque important pour les stocks de poissons.

Jacques-Yves Dallaire de L’Orignal (Ontario), décédé paisiblement entouré de sa famille le mardi 3 mai 2022, à l’âge de 76 ans. Il était le tendre époux de Monique Leclair; le fils de feu Falconio Dallaire et de feu Maria Lepage; le père bien-aimé de Josée (Carl Sauvé), France (Yves Parthenais) et Sandra (Yves Chouinard); le Pépère adoré de Chelsy et Shany Ann Desjardins, Samuel, Alexy et Olivier Parthenais et Tristan et Xavier Lortie; l’arrière-grand-père de Elyjah Desjardins Dufresne. Lui survivent également un frère Jean-Marc (Huguette St-Jean); deux sœurs, Diane (Yvan Blais) et Raymonde (Claude Larivière); un beau-frère Mario Leclair (Nicole Tessier); trois belles-sœurs, Nicole (feu Normand Lavoie), Louise Gascon et Johanne Leclair (Jacques Dewar) ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Il fut prédécédé par un frère Guy (Marthe Pharand) et une sœur Ginette (Gerry Lambert). La famille recevra parents et amis à la MAISON FUNÉRAIRE & FILS, 453, rue St-Philippe, Alfred (Ontario) 613-679-2802 , le jeudi 19 mai 2022, de 18 h à 21 h. Il est à noter que le port du masque est obligatoire à l’extérieur comme à l’intérieur de la maison funéraire et que la distanciation physique doit être respectée. Suivra une liturgie de la parole qui aura lieu dans l’intimité familiale en la chapelle de la maison funéraire. Pour ceux et celles qui le désirent, vos marques de sympathie peuvent se traduire par des dons à la Fondation de l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa, 40, rue Ruskin, bureau 2411, Ottawa (Ontario) K1Y 4W7.
