Strategic Plan Progress Report

Moving Forward Police Facilities

Priority 4: Calvert Auditorium and Gymnasium

Priority 5: SWAT Vehicle Storage

Purpose The SWAT Section includes multiple vehicles and equipment that do not have a dedicated storage facility to protect the vehicles from harsh weather. Heat in the summer can damage the vehicle’s exte- rior protective material as well as interior equip- ment. The preference is to construct a climate con- trolled metal building to provide a secure location. This improvement was included in the initial pro- gramming for the new facility, but was unfunded in the project budget. Status The estimated cost is $1.3 million. Police is working with the Property Management Department to find a suitable location and begin the design process.

Purpose The facility at 1000 Calvert underwent renovations this year for several groups that were moved from 350 W. Belknap Street including Records and Crimi- nal Investigations. 350 W. Belknap was sold to Tar- rant County. The existing auditorium and gymnasi- um were not part of the renovation improvements due to electrical load concerns. Recent analysis shows the existing capacity can handle the addition- al load of both spaces. Additional classroom space is needed for both the Police Department and Fire De- partment. Current classrooms are frequently booked and space becomes unavailable for neces- sary training and events. The gymnasium provides a new location for the Fort Worth Police Athletic League. Status The estimated cost is $200,000. Police is working with the Property Management Department to begin the improvements (lighting, HVAC, etc.).
