Did you feel the earthquake? A mild earthquake could be felt in Clarence- Rockland on Monday, August 15, at approxi- mately 5 p.m. The earthquake also hit Orléans and Buckingham and Val-des-monts in Québec, Specifically, the earthquake hit 16 km NW of Buckingham, 29 km NE of Gatineau and 38 km NE of Ottawa. Earthquake Canada estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 3.3 and stated that there are no reports of damage and none should be expected. – Alexia Marsillo Ottawa paramedics previously had 30-minute buffers at the end of their shifts in which they were not expected to answer any calls. The purpose of this buffer is to allow paramedics to have enough time to return their ambulances, have the equip- ment refreshed and to reduce the amount of overtime being paid. Brian Murray, former Senators GM, dies at 74 Former NHL coach and general manager Bryan Murray lost the battle to colon cancer on Satur- day, August 12 th , at 74 years old. Murray spent time with five different teams throughout his career with the NHL and, most recently, was the general manager for the Ottawa Senators, from 2007 to 2016. However, before the NHL, Murray began his coaching career in Clarence- Rockland in 1976 with the Rockland Nationals. His first year as coach was the year the team took it all the way and won the Centennial Cup of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. It is here in Rockland that he made his mark as a great coach, eventually moving on to the American Hockey League and eventually to the NHL. – Alexia Marsillo Le Bureau de santé de l’est de l’Ontario (BSEO) a confirmé le premier cas humain du virus du Nil occidental (VNO) de l’été dans la région. Le virus a été détecté à la mi-juillet, sur des moustiques de la région par des tests du BSEO. Jusqu’à maintenant, des infections chez les humains ne s’étaient produites que dans d’autres secteurs de la province. Le Bureau de santé surveille activement la région pour le virus du Nil occidental, tout au long de l’été; il recueille et teste les moustiques dans la région. L’emplacement précis de la source du virus n’est pas connu, mais la confirmation d’un cas humain sou- tient que le virus est toujours préoccupant dans la région. Bien que le risque du virus du Nil occi- dental soit relativement faible pour lamajo- rité des gens, il peut s’avérer grave pour certains. Cependant, il n’y a pas d’autres détails concernant l’état du cas confirmé. Le BSEO a émis plusieurs précautions La construction sur la rue Saint-Joseph reprendra prochainement. Ainsi en a-t-il été décidé lors de la réunion régulière du conseil municipal du lundi 7 août dernier, presque un mois après l’arrêt des travaux sur la rue. Initialement, l’administration avait ap- prouvé un plan pour réduire la rue Saint- Joseph, à l’intersection de la rue Laurier, à deux voies de circulation au lieu de trois, avec un trottoir de chaque côté et des pistes cyclables. Ce plan n’avait pas été présenté au conseil municipal par l’administration et par l’ancien directeur des infrastructures. Par conséquent, le plan n’a jamais été approuvé par le conseil, une erreur que le conseil est en train de rectifier. Puisque l’intersection de la rue Saint- Joseph et de la rue Laurier est une intersec- tion de haut volume, avec plusieurs autobus d’écoles qui doivent y tourner, le conseil a réalisé que la réduction des trois voies à deux voies de circulation ne serait pas suffisante. En plus, la rue Saint-Joseph fait maintenait partie du nouveau lien routier

On Saturday, August 12, Tucker House Renewal Centre in Rockland welcomed the community to its open house and a ceremony celebrating youth and environ- mental programming.The initiatives focus on local environmental education, youth development, and local history animation. Kristine Veaudry, board chair of Tucker House, explained that Tucker House’s mis- sion is to inspire sustainable living through on-site programs at the learning centre. Staff and youth volunteers were on hand to showcase their garden additions and an educational history mystery. Veaudry read a message of congratulations from Grant Crack - MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, on Tucker House’s receipt of a $49,500 Seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Founda- tion (OTF), and two Ontario150 community grants with a combined total of $13,000. “I am very pleased to support the Tucker House and the great work that they do in the community by protecting and promoting the environment”, said his note. Tucker House youth staffmembers spoke about recent youth-led projects, including the Tucker House History Mystery, an inte- ractive way to engage the community in learning about local history. Funded by the Province of Ontario through an Ontario150 Community Celebration grant, the program celebrates 150 years of inclusion, innovation, and opportunity in Ontario. Statistique Canada a récemment publié les points saillants du recensement canadien de 2016. Ceux-ci incluent des données pro- venant des catégories suivantes : familles, état matrimonial, le ménage et la langue. Le taux de bilinguisme français-anglais a atteint un nouveau sommet au Canada, les deux tiers de cette croissance étant attri- bués au Québec. Le taux de bilinguisme au pays a augmen- té pour la première fois depuis 2001, passant de 17 % à 18 %. Le nombre de personnes qui considèrent le français comme leur langue officielle a diminué, en Ontario, de 0,2 % depuis 2011. L’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO) s’inquiète de cette baisse relative du français. « L’avenir de la communauté franco- ontarienne est menacé en Ontario, a expli- qué Carol Jolin, le président de l’AFO. Cette diminution affecte notre capacité de vivre en français, d’obtenir des services gouverne- mentaux dans notre langue et d’être repré- sentés auprès des acteurs politiques. »Même si l’usage de la langue officielle française a diminué, le nombre de francophones vivant en Ontario ainsi que les personnes pouvant s’exprimer en français a augmenté. Santiago, au Chili, pour une compétition de deux jours. Ils ont poursuivi à Montevideo, en Uruguay, pour une compétition d’une journée pour ensuite aller à Cochabamba, en Bolivie, pour une compétition de deux jours. De cet endroit, ils ont passé 30 heures en autobus, par La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Puno, pour enfin se rendre à Arequipa, au Pérou, pour une compétition d’une journée. La compétition suivante était celle de Lima, sur deux jours. Ils se sont ensuite rendus à Chia, en Colombie, pour une autre compétition de deux jours, et àMérida, au Vénézuéla, pour une compétition d’une journée. Enfin, la dernière compétition en Amérique Latine était celle de Santo Domingo, en République dominicaine. Cette tournée d’Amérique Latine a été organisée sur une année entière par le Péruvien Natan Riggenbach, délégué de la World Cube Association . Dans chaque ville où se tenaient les compétitions, des bénévoles étaient chargés d’héberger et de s’occuper des invités spéciaux, soit Antoine Cantin du Canada, Feliks Zemdegs et Jay- den McNeill de l’Australie, Oliver Jenks et
Neuf pays, dix compétitions de cube Rubik en six semaines et huit nouveaux records nationaux. À travers des milliers de ki- lomètres parcourus, Antoine Cantin dit avoir vécu une expérience enrichissante, éducative et inoubliable durant son récent voyage en Amérique latine et en Europe. En effet, le 17 juillet en soirée, Antoine Cantin, ce cubeur de l’Est ontarien, revenait finalement chez lui, à Clarence-Rockland, après un long voyage dont la plupart ne peuvent que rêver. Du 7 juin au 6 juillet, Antoine et son père ont parcouru l’Amé- rique latine du nord au sud, et d’est en ouest. Comme si huit compétitions en quatre se- maines n’étaient pas assez, ils ont ensuite survolé l’océan Atlantique pour se rendre à Londres, pour le London Open (deux jours) et ont terminé leur périple aux champion- nats mondiaux, une compétition de quatre jours. Antoine Cantin, this EasternOntario Speedcuber, is back froma trip of a lifetime. From June 7 until July 6, Antoine and his father crisscrossed Latin America. They dipped their feet in the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Then they made their way to London, England. From there, they took the train to Paris, France, to finally come back home on July 17. Thanks to the Rubik’s cube, Antoine was able to travel around the world, beating eight national records. He also came at 0.05 seconds fromwinning back his World Record for one-handed resolution —photo submitted.

La tournée était organisée de sorte que pour la plupart des villes où se déroulait une compétition, une journée était mise de côté pour donner une chance aux invités spéciaux de visiter. Les bénévoles en ont donc profité pour leur montrer les joyaux de leur ville/pays. Ainsi, les Cantin ont pu savourer la culture sud-américaine pendant quatre semaines, en étant hébergés par de nombreuses familles, dans différents pays, tout en savourant plusieurs mets locaux. Durant leur séjour, ils disent avoir vécu les contrastes de l’Amérique latine. Du Chili, un pays stable, relativement riche et indus- trialisé, à la Bolivie et au Pérou, deux pays pauvres dotés d’une infrastructure précoce, en passant par le Vénézuéla, un pays au bord de la guerre civile où l’inflation était à 1000 % l’an dernier. Néanmoins, tous ces pays avaient une chose en commun : Antoine Cantin y était toujours chaleureusement accueilli. Les cubeurs voulaient lui parler, lui demandaient son autographe, voulaient prendre des photos avec lui – il était traité comme une vraie star ! Il faut dire qu’Antoine n’était pas une star seulement en Amérique Latine. À Paris, lors des championnats mondiaux, une équipe de télévision de la chaîne TV5 l’a suivi pendant les quatre jours : elle prépare un documen- taire sur le jeune franco-ontarien, qui devrait d’ailleurs être télédiffusé en 2018.

Yoga If your child isn’t competitive, then he or she may find yoga appealing. The stretches and poses taught in a typical yoga class offer numerous health benefits for both the mind and the body. Many studios offer yoga lessons specifically designed for children.
More likely to find your kid playing video games than playing catch? Though Junior may not seem overly athletic, that doesn’t mean you should give up on trying to find a sport that’s a good fit. Here are several ideas that may just capture your youngster’s interest. Martial arts Judo, karate and tae kwon do are three martial arts disciplines that are commonly practiced by kids. Each style is unique but there are commonalities between them, including a belt ranking system, a focus on self-defence and an emphasis on individual achievement. Martial arts are both physical and mental and teach discipline, confidence and self-respect.
Tennis and other racket sports Kids who like to compete but prefer one- on-one coaching might enjoy tennis. The sport teaches coordination and develops both basic and fine motor skills. Other possible racket sports include badminton, squash, and table tennis.

Mise en scène par Charles Rose, c’est principalement le jeune metteur en scène franco-ontarien, aidé de Rosalie Lacroix, Corinne Sauvé, Sandrine Couture et Jean- Philippe Forgues, qui ont signé la comé- die, une grande première pour le Théâtre la Barouette.
