NON RESIDENT FEE

CANCELLATIONS Stamford Adult and Continuing Education reserves the right to make changes as needed, including limiting enrollment in a course or withdrawing a course due to insufficient enrollment. If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, students who registered will be notified and will receive a full refund . C lasses may be postponed or offered virtually. Students will receive a credit voucher for classes that have been interrupted. Class sessions may also be rescheduled due to an unexpected school closing (e.g., inclement weather or teacher absence). Refunds or credits will not be issued to students unable to attend a rescheduled (make-up) class.

There is a $10 surcharge for non-Stamford residents for each order placed.

By providing your email address, you will receive an email enrollment confirmation. If you do not use email and want a confir- mation, please enclose a stamped, self-ad- dressed envelope with your registration form.

SUPPLIES, MATERIALS & BOOKS

is placed after the course title if there is a book or material fee. Textbooks assigned by instructors can be purchased the first night of class. WITHDRAWALS • REFUNDS All classes in the enrichment program are self-supporting and depend upon full collection of tuition. Students wishing to cancel their registration must do so in writing by mail or email at least five business days prior to the start of class to receive a refund. A $20 processing fee will be charged on all refunds. Exceptions are: • Single Session Classes - No refunds. • Restaurant Classes - No refunds. • Tennis Classes - No refunds. • Online Courses (ed2go) - Withdrawals and transfer requests are accepted up to 5 days after the start date of the class in which you are enrolled. Students assume all risk of changes in their personal schedules. Absence from the class will not reduce the cost of operating our programs. For this reason, student absence will not result in a refund, tuition credit, or make-up session. Class sessions may be rescheduled due to an unexpected school closing (e.g., inclement weather or teacher absence). Refunds or credit will not be issued to students unable to attend a rescheduled (make-up) class.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS

As a general rule, if day school is closed because of inclement weather, night school will also be closed. EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

NEED YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

NATIONAL EXTERNAL DIPLOMA PROGRAM NEDP is a high school program for adults who have acquired their academic skills through life and work experience. Participants in this program must demonstrate their skills through the successful completion of a series of assignments. Candidates must complete these assignments with 100% accuracy. This is an opportunity for candidates to work independently while maintaining bi-weekly appointments with their NEDP advisor/ assessor.

HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT DIPLOMA The Adult Education High School Credit Diploma is the same as a diploma awarded by Connecticut public high schools. The requirements for graduation are equivalent. The student must earn 25 credits.

JOIN OUR GED® CLASSES

This program prepares adult learners to pass the four-part, computer-based GED ® exam to earn a State of Connecticut diploma. When you register for classes, a placement test will be administered. Based on the results, you will be assigned to an appropriate instructional level. A student must earn a score of 236 or higher on our placement test to be placed in GED ® classes. CLASSES To register for GED ® preparation classes students must be at least 17 years old, officially withdrawn from school, and must submit a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian’s signature if required. EXAM

ADULT BASIC EDUCATION Students 17 years of age and over who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and math, or if you need to brush up for job training or employment skills, ABE is for you. Often adults seeking job advancement, a new training or a high school diploma will start with ABE for basic skills as a first step. 004 ART OF THE CINEMA: ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT By combining a text on film appreciation, and viewing films from the birth of motion pictures to present day, you will follow the growth of the aesthetic value within filmmaking in order to make the experience more than just “going to the movies.” We will begin with the silent era and end with a film produced within the last 5-10 years of the same genre. Petrilli is a director/actor for stage and screen, is an asso- ciate member of Writers Guild of America east, a member of the Dramatists Guild, and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. He has coached Acting for the Camera and The Art of Dramatic Writing at Weist Barron Studio of Acting, the Ted Bardy Studios, the Shetler Studios, and John Robert Powers in NYC, and also at Western Connecticut State University. 005 ACTING FOR THE CAMERA This weekly class introduces the basic skills and techniques required when acting for the camera. It also aims to increase your confidence and understanding of how to emote, gesture, as well as analyze and deliver text for the camera. We will cover the steps from screenplay to production, including a class-produced short film at the end of the session. Edwin Escobar Thurs., Feb. 15 6:00-8:00PM In-Person at Rippowam 10 sessions $129 Edwin Escobar is a self taught director and cinematographer based in CT. He has been offering video production services to developing artists of all mediums and small businesses for the last 14 years. Edwin has worked in over a dozen short films, including four original award winning projects. 007 IN THE MIRROR ACTING CLASS Class Mantra- We will use the connection of breath, movement, and critical self awareness. You will learn a genuine path to character development and embodiment. Get ready to unapologetically express your “right now feelings,” through monologue, dialogue and table talk. 001 PAINTING IN OILS AND ACRYLIC R This course is for beginning and more advanced students. Beginners will learn how to mix colors and basic color theory including value, color temperature, and complimentary color mixing. More advanced students will work on paintings of their own choice. 002 BEGINNING WATERCOLOR R This class is for the beginning art student who wants to learn the fundamentals of painting using watercolor as a medium. The principles of color theory and composition will be examined, and there will be a demonstration at the beginning of every class. She is a member of the board of the Stamford Art Association and a member of the Loft Artists Association.

012 MICROSOFT EXCEL: BEYOND THE BASICS This course looks at the advanced offerings of Excel and their uses in general business applications. Topics covered will include an extensive survey of formulas and functions, data consolidation, filtering, sorting, analysis, pivot tables/charts and various case situations where these concepts are applied. Basic familiarity with any version of Microsoft Excel is strongly recommended. Students will learn concepts and techniques to create and use spreadsheets for various purposes in the home and office. 010 PHOTOGRAPHY R It doesn’t matter what kind of equipment you use: your smart phone camera, a disposable 35mm camera, or a state-of-the-art digital single lens reflex camera; you’ll learn the basics of photography in this class. Photographic fundamentals such as exposure and focus control, posing, and composition will be discussed. We’ll critique your prints to help you take better pictures. We’ll also give you photo tips and share our professional experience. Bring your photos, a notebook, your camera, and plan to have a good time. No experience necessary. 014 MINDFUL MONEY- A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO IMPROVING YOUR FINANCES Talking about money can be stressful, and it's hard to improve something that stresses us out. This workshop will provide you with the tools you need to release your financial anxiety so you can finally focus on reaching your goals. You will do this by understanding your money personality, and how to set goals for your unique strengths and challenges. You will leave with mindful financial tips and exercises that you can put into action immediately. 043 GEOCACHING ADVENTURE Geocaching is a modern treasure-hunting activity, with over 5 million participants in over 200 countries on all 7 continents, that uses coded messages to figure out the GPS coordinates of hidden caches. The program will start indoors so everyone can use Wi-Fi to create an account and download the app if necessary. There will be a brief PowerPoint on various aspects of geocach- ing around the world followed by a group activity to figure out the coordinates of the caches hidden at the Bartlett Arboretum: GC1ANMX High Ridge Cache and the oldest geocache in CT GCE4 another Brick in the Wall. Participants will go on a geocaching adventure along the Bartlett trails, either using personal GPS de- vices or their smartphones to find 2 hidden treasures while learning about the natural environment.
