Jerusalem Vaults Into the Top 10 Best Cities Worldwide in Prestigious 2026 Travel Rankings

Proving its timeless allure to global travelers, the historic capital has been voted the Number 7 Best City in the World and the Number 1 Destination in Africa and the Middle East in Travel + Leisure’s renowned World’s Best Awards, outranking iconic global hotspots

J erusalem has achieved an extraordinary international milestone, capturing the hearts of global adventurers to solidify its place among the world’s most elite travel destinations. In the newly released 2026 World’s Best Awards by the influential American travel publication Travel + Leisure, Jerusalem was voted the seventh best city destination on the planet. This spectacular showing placed the Israeli capital ahead of some of the world’s most heavily visited and iconic cities, including Tokyo, Florence, Prague, Seoul, and Cape Town. Beyond its top- ten global debut, Jerusalem also claimed the ultimate crown as the Number One City in the Africa and Middle East region, marking a major triumph for the local tourism industry. This remarkable leap to the front of the global stage underscores a resilient trend of international devotion to the city. Even during

previous periods of regional challenges and shifting travel patterns, Jerusalem, along with Tel Aviv, consistently retained a presence in the regional top ten, with Jerusalem securing the third spot in the Middle East just a couple of years ago. The 2026 rankings represent a massive surge in popularity, propelling the ancient capital to the absolute top of its regional category and into the coveted global top ten for the very first time. Global honors this year were led by San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, followed by cultural powerhouses like Kyoto, Chiang Mai, and Hoi An, making Jerusalem’s seventh- place position a truly elite distinction. The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, now celebrating their 31st year, are widely considered one of the most prestigious, reader-driven benchmarks in the entire global hospitality industry.

A 25 million ILS transformation brings state-of-the-art facilities, enhanced accessibility, and a respectful environment to one of Christianity’s most sacred desert sanctuaries along the Jordan River

F aith, history, and modern comfort have beautifully converged along the Jericho plains, where the historic Kasr el Yahud Baptism Site has officially inaugurated a sweeping renovation project. Revering its status as the third most important Christian pilgrimage destination in Israel—surpassed only by Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre and Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity—a coalition of Israeli ministries and authorities teamed up to execute a 25 million ILS infrastructure overhaul. The Director-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Michael Izhakov, the Deputy Head of the Civil Administration, Lt. Col. L., and the Director- General of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, Raya

Shurki, inaugurated the site in a festive ceremony following an extensive renovation project carried out with an investment of 25 million ILS. Ranked as the third most important Christian site in Israel, after the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Church of the Nativity, the upgraded site significantly enhances the visitor experience for the hundreds of thousands who arrive each year. The joint effort by the Ministry of Tourism, the Civil Administration, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority has transformed the site into a world-class, accessible sanctuary that seamlessly matches its immense spiritual significance.

international travelers to look past the headlines and immerse themselves in a lived experience defined by culture, emotional connection, and the unstoppable energy of its people. The heart of this new approach lies in authenticity. Tourism officials are embracing a narrative of “gritty authenticity”, showcasing real moments, genuine human encounters, and the joyful spirit that defines daily life in the country. The initiative emphasizes that tourism is not merely about F or global travelers seeking destinations that truly embody the values of liberty, inclusion, and safety, the shores of the Mediterranean have long offered a uniquely vibrant sanctuary. The recent return of the world-renowned Tel Aviv Pride Parade to its traditional, full-scale coastal route serves as a powerful reminder of a profound geopolitical reality. Within the shifting landscapes of the Middle East, Israel remains absolutely unique—standing solitary as the only nation in

booking flights or checking into hotels, but about the profound personal connections made along the way. By focusing on the vibrant, living texture of Israeli society, the campaign offers global travelers an open invitation to experience a destination that truly must be felt to be understood. This fresh perspective comes at a time when the travel industry is increasingly driven by a desire for purpose. Rather than trying to blend in with conventional, sanitized vacation spots, Israel is choosing to stand out by offering tourism the entire region where the LGBTQ+ community can live completely openly, securely, and with their fundamental rights fully protected by law. This exceptional status was recently spotlighted on the global stage by the World Jewish Congress, which issued an official statement of support following the spectacular festivities. The organization underscored the profound diversity and openness that define Israeli society, characterizing it as a free and inclusive home. For international tourists, this translates into an environment of unparalleled

with deep meaning. The strategy acknowledges that while global perceptions and regional dynamics may fluctuate, the personal bonds formed through firsthand experiences remain unbreakable. For travelers seeking more than just a standard holiday, this campaign frames a visit to Israel as a chance to enter an ongoing story and engage with history as it unfolds. Behind this cultural invitation lies a sophisticated embrace of modern innovation peace of mind. Visitors can experience a society where discrimination in employment based on sexual orientation is strictly illegal, and where every citizen is empowered to serve openly in all branches of the national military, reflecting a deep-seated institutional commitment to equality. The energy of this enduring spirit was palpable along the Tel Aviv-Jaffa promenade, where tens of thousands of participants flooded the streets with music, dance, and an overwhelming display of pride.

A FLORAL FANTASY IN FULL BLOOM: ISRAEL’S LARGEST FLOWER EXHIBITION RETURNS TO TEL AVIV

Move over Bordeaux and Napa Valley-the sun- drenched Negev Desert in Israel is stepping into the global spotlight, inviting travelers to discover its award-winning wineries, innovative spirit, and breathtaking landscapes

Returning after an overwhelmingly successful run, the spectacular “Flowers: A Journey Between Worlds” will transform the heart of Tel Aviv into a breathtaking paradise of color and imagination this August

F ollowing an incredibly successful previous run that captured the hearts of over 150,000 visitors, Israel’s ultimate summer attraction is making a grand return to Tel Aviv. Slated to open its doors from August 13 to August 29, 2026, the massive “Flowers: A Journey Between Worlds” exhibition is gearing up to be larger, more immersive, and significantly more dazzling than anything seen before. For international tourists seeking a vibrant, family- friendly cultural experience, this highly anticipated event offers a unique chance to see Tel Aviv blossom in a whole new light. Taking over a vastly expanded pavilion at the Expo Tel Aviv complex , this year’s production is a massive multi-million ILS undertaking. The sprawling, fully air-conditioned indoor venue will showcase a staggering collection of over three million flowers

T here is a remarkable transformation taking place in the heart of Israel’s southern desert, and international travelers have a captivating new reason to visit. The majestic Negev Desert has officially received international recognition as a certified wine region, rightfully taking its place alongside legendary wine- producing giants like Napa Valley, Bordeaux, Champagne, and Chianti. This prestigious designation means that bottles produced in this unique terroir will now proudly carry the “Negev” label, signaling to wine lovers everywhere that a new, world-class destination has arrived on the global wine map. Stretching from Kiryat Gat in the north all the way to the sunny resort city of Eilat on the shores of the Red Sea, the Negev covers about 60% of Israel’s territory. While it was once considered a quiet, arid expanse, it has

blossomed into a vibrant agricultural and cultural hub. Today, despite the fierce desert sun and minimal rainfall, the region boasts around 60 wineries producing more than one million bottles of exceptional wine annually, alongside a booming boutique craft brewery scene. The incredible feat of producing premium wines in such a harsh environment has actually put Negev winemakers at the absolute forefront of modern global agriculture. By utilizing advanced Israeli irrigation techniques and harnessing the desert’s abundant sunlight, local growers are entirely redefining what is possible. In fact, as climate change brings extreme heat and dryness to traditional European vineyards, renowned winemakers from regions like Bordeaux have been visiting the Negev to learn how these desert pioneers master the elements so flawlessly.

arranged in breathtaking, larger-than-life artistic displays. Masterfully brought to life by acclaimed designers Frida Pablo and Keren Tsach, alongside legendary multimedia visionary Gil Teichman, the exhibition is meticulously designed to push the boundaries of floral architecture and botanical art. Visitors are invited to embark on a mesmerizing journey through five distinct, fully sculpted thematic worlds: the Water World, the Galaxy World, the Mirror World, the Fairytale World, and the Amusement World. Every single environment is entirely constructed from vibrant blooms, featuring a rich tapestry of exotic flora flown in from all corners of the globe, alongside rare, stunning flower species that do not naturally grow in Israel. The experience goes far beyond traditional viewing, blending nature with high- tech immersive elements.

THE CAPTAIN STEERING THE SHIP THROUGH THE STORM:

MIKI SCHWARTZ, CEO OF GOLDEN CROWN HOTELS

“From wars to COVID – there hasn’t been a decade without a catastrophe, but we know how to turn around quickly like a private car”, says the CEO of Golden Crown Hotels in an interview about the culinary revolution in Nazareth, the new business hotel in Herzliya, the vision for bringing back tourists, and the winning formula for navigating the Israeli hotel industry precisely during moments of crisis

wisdom is to respond like a private car” Miki, the last six years have demanded extraordinary resilience from hoteliers in Israel. How do you manage a hotel chain in such a reality? “The last six years have truly been particularly challenging; they started back during the COVID-19 period, and it continues with the complex geopolitical situation we are in today. This situation has required, and continues to require, necessary adjustments from us at every moment. Personally, I have been in the tourism industry for many years, so I have been through quite a few crises. Looking back, there wasn’t a decade that didn’t have some catastrophe - from wars to the fall of the Twin Towers. Everything passed and had an impact, but we always knew how to overcome them. The secret is the speed of response. Golden Crown’s tourism systems are agile and know how to react quickly.

There is a huge difference between a U-turn made by a bus and a U-turn made by a private car - we know how to adapt ourselves and get back on the right track very quickly, while appealing to new, global audiences”. This agility was also evident at the outbreak of the recent war, when your hotels immediately mobilized to host evacuees from the North and South? “Absolutely. A hotel chain connected to its country and community must know how to provide a response in moments of truth. The Golden Crown Nazareth Hotel took in many evacuees and served as a warm and calm home for them during a very difficult and complex period for all of us. When we began returning the hotels to routine operations for the general public, we led a clear line of adapting the hospitality to the spirit of the times - both in terms of a reasonable price and

T he hotel and tourism industry in Israel was never meant for the faint of heart. Wars, frequent geopolitical crises, and a global pandemic have turned management in Israel into a mission requiring extreme flexibility, rapid response, and audacity. If there is one person who knows these unfolding crises up close and knows exactly how to spin the wheel in time, it is Miki Schwartz, CEO of the “Golden Crown” hotel chain. Schwartz is a well-known and highly respected figure in the Israeli tourism landscape.

Alongside managing giant chains in the past, such as “Sheraton” and “Hachsharat HaYishuv” - from north to south and with international deployment in the United States and Europe - he also brings a unique academic angle to the field as a lecturer in the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at Kinneret Academic College. In recent years, he has been leading Golden Crown to exceptional achievements, precisely out of the most complex challenges. “There hasn’t been a decade without a catastrophe, the

It is a swift, efficient, and professional business hotel, specifically tailored for short stays and business travelers on the move, and it harmoniously joins our family of active hotels”. The Future of Tourism: “Dispel the Bureaucracy” When do you estimate we will see inbound tourism return in full volume? “We want all audiences and have no preference for one over another. Today, fortunately, there is a certain sigh of relief, and more airlines are returning and arriving in Israel, which is a positive sign. I hope the coming period will lay the proper foundations and tourists will return in droves. We also appeal strongly to the religious experience, such as pilgrims. History proves that after shaking events like COVID or wars, the religious experience takes on a renewed significance and a strong urge for pilgrimage. Tourists want to come, and for that to happen smoothly, the state needs to focus on lowering the obstacles to foreign tourism. When there is relative quiet, it is easy to get tourists onto planes, but first of all, the cumbersome bureaucracy needs to be dispelled. Anyone who deeply understands the processes we are currently undergoing knows in which direction to turn the spotlights in order to steer the ship onto the promising and right path”.

a family-oriented customer experience, understanding that the Israeli public needs an accessible and embracing respite”. How did you navigate the business activity in Nazareth when inbound tourism stopped almost completely? “We turned aggressively to the domestic tourism sector, placing an immense emphasis in Nazareth on conferences, seminars, and events in general. We built a very large complex of halls, the largest of which accommodates about 950 people. Recently, we added another hall with an open front kitchen inside the hall itself, which can serve as both a luxury hospitality venue and a restaurant. We added two more halls of varying sizes with splitting options, allowing us to offer a very wide variety of events and provide a perfect solution for the local business and private market”. ‘Christmas Market’ on the hotel grounds, which brings the authentic atmosphere of Nazareth directly to the guests”. Body and Mind Wellness: From Nazareth to Herzliya You have also recently renewed yourselves in the field of wellness and in the geographical expansion of the chain outside the North? “True, we realized that people during this period are looking for peace for body and mind, so we opened a spa that provides a complete response to this experience. It offers a very special therapeutic experience, an advanced gym, special decks for yoga and Tai Chi, and an indoor pool where guests can take a dip even at unconventional hours. Concurrently, we stepped outside the borders of the North and opened a 60-room ‘Metro’ hotel in Herzliya.

regarding food and the local experience. What was the vision behind it? “We placed a very strong emphasis on culinary matters and led many innovations. We harnessed the local Israeli- Nazareth kitchen at the highest level, bringing the environmental experience inside the hotel - from using local vegetables to authentic delicacies from the local and Israeli kitchen. Designed to mimic a mega-yacht afloat on a private island, this spectacular 270 million USD resort brings unprecedented coastal luxury, world-class design, and holistic wellness to Israel’s central coast

A new pinnacle of luxury travel has arrived in Israel, inviting international tourists to experience a coastal retreat unlike any other in the Mediterranean. Set on a secluded, wave- kissed islet almost entirely surrounded by water in the heart of the Herzliya Marina, the Fattal Hotel Group has officially unveiled its newest crown jewel: The Yacht, a masterpiece from the exclusive Fattal Limited Edition collection. Representing an investment of approximately 1 billion ILS (270 million USD), this architectural marvel stands as one of the most ambitious and breathtaking hospitality projects built in Israel in the last two decades, meticulously crafted to be a world-class destination in its own right. Stepping onto the property feels less like entering a traditional beach hotel and

more like boarding an elite private vessel anchored in the sea. Brainchild of the iconic Israeli architect Ilan Pivko, alongside the visionary design team of Amir Tzoref, Eliran Dahan, and Shlomi Zalkind, the building’s striking structure flows seamlessly across sequential “decks” that effortlessly blend indoor luxury with the open ocean breeze. Using an elegant color palette of crisp whites, natural wood, and ocean blues, the resort creates an immediate sense of tranquil detachment from daily life, capturing the signature Riviera-style ambiance typically found in remote island getaways right along Israel’s central shoreline. Beyond its ocean vistas, The Yacht doubles as a grand exhibition of contemporary Israeli art, where the interior spaces double as a curated museum.
