HOW CAN I BE A GOOD ADVISEE? Communicate – You can find your academic advisor’s name and contact information on your home screen in MyBlue. We encourage you to reach out to your advisor to introduce yourself early in your first semester. Developing a strong relationship with your advisor can support your academic and career development. Prepare – Before your regular academic advising appointment, you should become familiar with your degree requirements by looking through your Degree Audit in MyBlue (in the Academics section).
In the Academic Advising & Career Development Office, we work with students at every step of their academic career. We are here for students who are unsure about their major or curious how they could be successful in a different major. We have five professional advisors that are excited to help you in your academic and career development.
FRESHMAN CHECK-IN MEETING (REQUIRED)
As a first-time freshman, you have an opportunity to talk with one of our advisors early in the fall semester for your mandatory freshman check-in meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to address any issues you’re having early on before they become real problems, as well as to help you understand your role in the academic advising process. You’ll get an email to your UNK emaill when it’s time to schedule this meeting and remove the hold from your MyBlue account (pictured below). We look forward to meeting with you!
FOCUS 2 is your pathway to explore various occupations and majors at UNK. There are five different career/major exploration assessments that are designed to help students explore majors and occupations. You can access the FOCUS 2 at http://bit.ly/FindAMajor and then schedule a meeting with an Academic & Career advisor anytime to discuss the results.
HOLD First-time Freshman are required to meet with the Academic Advising & Career Development Office. Call 308.865.8501 with any questions.
