Larose Forest Day celebrates winter fun

Mush on there! The dogsled rides, courtesy of the members of Mush Larose, both two-legged and four-legged, proved one of the most popular events of the day during Larose Forest Day in Limoges, over the Feb. 27 weekend. The dogs were more than eager to bolt down the trails, pulling behind them sled loads of cheering children and laughing adults in return for a small donation to the Cancer Society. For those either waiting for their turn in a sled or finished with their trip along the trails, there were lots of other fun winter activities to enjoy on site, from sampling freshly-pouredmaple taffy to enjoying a hot bowl of homemade chili or baked beans and onions. Kids took their turn tubing down the little slide hill while adults relaxed and chatted around the bonfire, kept burning bright and warm thanks to volunteers from the Clarence-Rockland Fire Department. Others went tramping through the woods on snowshoes or schussed along on Nordic skis or tried their hand at the fat-bike rally. —photos Gregg Chamberlain

Danielle Viau (left) and Charles Boucher in the Larose Forest Day cantina tent had lots of calls for bowls of steaming hot beans & onions or homemade chili, to help warm the hands and stomach.

Toasting marshmallows proved popular for young and old.

Heads up and look out down below! It’s tubing time!
