ESG STRATEGY UPDATE

Debswana Diamond Mine developed its Building Forever (BF) Framework (see Fig 1. Building Forever Framework) in 2020 as part of the overall Debswana Strategy termed One Dream One Team (ODOT). The Debswana Building Forever Strategy was developed in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Government of the Republic of Botswana’s Vision 2036, the National

Development Plans and DeBeers Building Forever Strategy. The BF Strategy was developed with the following pillars: Elimination of Fatalities, Protecting the Natural World, Our People, Partnering for Thriving Communities, Standing with Women and Girls + People Living with Disabilities and Trusted Corporate Leader.

Since the development of the 2020 BF Framework and Strategy, there have been changes in the global trends, sustainability material topics, needs and expectations of stakeholders and 2025 presented the correct time to review the framework and strategy during its midterm strategy implementation window to ensure that it remains relevant and delivers the stretch goals in line with the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. The refined strategy was developed through an extensive process of co-creation and consultation involving Government Ministries, De Beers, Debswana leadership, employees and strategy team, community representatives, business partners, and other external stakeholders. It aligns closely with Botswana’s Vision 2036 and the national priorities of economic diversification, climate action, and social inclusion. The new strategy has been simplified and is now referred to as the “Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy”. It has been streamlined from six (6) pillars with 15 goals to three (3) pillars with seven (7) goals. This simplified and impact-driven structure ensures integration with Debswana’s new business strategy and Future Fit programme, while maintaining alignment with the Botswana Government and De Beers’ sustainability objectives. Successful execution depends on effective communication, partnerships, and change management

to scale impact despite financial financial constraints. Through this strategy, Debswana reaffirms its commitment to “doing well by doing good” — building a sustainable business that continues to underpin Botswana’s prosperity for generations to come. The objective of this Strategy is to focus Debswana’s ESG efforts in support of the broader business strategy so that more value can be derived from sustainability - In this regard, our journey will unfold in the following three phases of the Debswana Strategy: Survive & Stabilise (2025–2027): Focus on cost optimisation and operational resilience. Sustain (2027–2029): Strengthen financial sustainability and lay foundations for diversification. Thrive (2029+): Enable broader diversification and long- term growth. We are excited to move forward with the implementation of this robust and inclusive strategy. Every step we take towards our ESG goals creates a ripple effect of positive change. Every action count’s, every voice matters, let’s keep shaping a brighter future together for our people, our communities and our planet.
