Dear Teemane Readers,

EDITORIAL TEAM

There is something fitting about closing a chapter in the month of love.

This edition is my final one as Editor. Upon reflection, I realised these pages were never just about sharing business victory moments. They were about our people and communities and the very fabric that makes us uniquely Debswana. The intention of the editorial team was doing what we could to ensure that when you read Teemane, you felt informed and reminded that you are a part of something important, meaningful and intentionally crafted. This month’s stories reflect that spirit. From our participation at the 2026 Mining Indaba, where we set out to strengthen Botswana’s diamonds positioning on the global stage, to the visible engagement of leaders across our sites and our renewed commitment to Quad Zero safety, we see a company that takes responsibility seriously. We see care in action. Nothing we achieve matters more than how we show up for one another. That commitment to protect, to lead with intention and to represent Botswana with pride is what continues to shape us. Editing Teemane has been a privilege because it has meant listening closely to the heartbeat of Debswana and holding space for the stories that matter. I have seen how operational excellence stands shoulder to shoulder with compassion and how our people persevere, steadily and proudly, through seasons of change. Holding both strategy and humanity to the same level of importance has been the most fulfilling part of being a part of this journey. As I hand over the pen, I do so with gratitude and quiet confidence in what lies ahead. Our story is still unfolding, and I have no doubt it will continue to be written with intention and heart.

DEBSWANA REAFFIRMS BOTSWANA’S DIAMOND FUTURE AT MINING INDABA 2026

Debswana Diamond Company delivered a clear and confident message at the 2026 Mining Indaba in Cape Town: the future of natural diamonds remains strong, and Botswana will continue to shine. Chief Executive Officer Andrew Maatla Motsomi set the tone by emphasising that Debswana’s success is rooted in empathy and partnership. He explained that the company works hand in hand with communities and their leaders to design programmes that respond directly to their priorities. Development is not imposed but created together to ensure lasting impact. He said this culture of care and passion guides the entire organisation and ensures that natural diamonds continue to fund schools, hospitals, infrastructure and opportunities for future generations. For Debswana, mining is not only about extracting diamonds but about improving lives and building a stronger nation. Chief Operations Officer Koolatotse Koolatotse addressed the realities of a challenging global diamond market with honesty and determination. He acknowledged that the industry downturn has affected revenues but made it clear that inaction is not an option. He warned that without decisive steps the life of Debswana’s mines could be reduced by 32 years, a loss he described as unacceptable. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to natural diamonds and outlined firm actions to align production with demand, strengthen cost discipline and secure long-term sustainability. He also announced that Debswana is expanding its outlook beyond diamond mining, exploring new business opportunities and partnerships in other countries by building on the skills and experience developed over five decades. Principal Mining Engineer Dr. Itumeleng Seitshiro focused on the future of mining and the next generation of professionals. She highlighted the growing role of technology, artificial intelligence and data in shaping the industry and stressed the importance of continuous learning. She reminded young professionals that innovation depends on trusted data and strong technical foundations. Debswana, she said, will continue to produce world class talent ready to lead in a rapidly changing environment. At Mining Indaba 2026, Debswana did more than participate. The company reaffirmed its purpose, its

resilience and its belief that natural diamonds remain rare, responsibly mined and globally relevant. At a time when the diamond industry is under pressure, Debswana sent a clear message to international markets: natural diamonds carry authenticity, traceability and a legacy formed over billions of years. Botswana’s diamonds are not only symbols of beauty, but of stability, responsible stewardship and long- term value in an evolving global landscape. By committing to disciplined production, strong partnerships and continued investment in skills and innovation, Debswana demonstrated that it is a dependable partner in the global mining sector. The company’s focus extends beyond national impact to building confidence with investors, partners and consumers around the world. In a shifting market, Debswana’s voice was steady and assured: natural diamonds are rare, real and responsibly sourced, and their future remains strong on the world stage.

ESG STRATEGY UPDATE

Debswana Diamond Mine developed its Building Forever (BF) Framework (see Fig 1. Building Forever Framework) in 2020 as part of the overall Debswana Strategy termed One Dream One Team (ODOT). The Debswana Building Forever Strategy was developed in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Government of the Republic of Botswana’s Vision 2036, the National

Development Plans and DeBeers Building Forever Strategy. The BF Strategy was developed with the following pillars: Elimination of Fatalities, Protecting the Natural World, Our People, Partnering for Thriving Communities, Standing with Women and Girls + People Living with Disabilities and Trusted Corporate Leader.

7

Since the development of the 2020 BF Framework and Strategy, there have been changes in the global trends, sustainability material topics, needs and expectations of stakeholders and 2025 presented the correct time to review the framework and strategy during its midterm strategy implementation window to ensure that it remains relevant and delivers the stretch goals in line with the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. The refined strategy was developed through an extensive process of co-creation and consultation involving Government Ministries, De Beers, Debswana leadership, employees and strategy team, community representatives, business partners, and other external stakeholders. It aligns closely with Botswana’s Vision 2036 and the national priorities of economic diversification, climate action, and social inclusion. The new strategy has been simplified and is now referred to as the “Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy”. It has been streamlined from six (6) pillars with 15 goals to three (3) pillars with seven (7) goals. This simplified and impact-driven structure ensures integration with Debswana’s new business strategy and Future Fit programme, while maintaining alignment with the Botswana Government and De Beers’ sustainability objectives. Successful execution depends on effective communication, partnerships, and change management

to scale impact despite financial financial constraints. Through this strategy, Debswana reaffirms its commitment to “doing well by doing good” — building a sustainable business that continues to underpin Botswana’s prosperity for generations to come. The objective of this Strategy is to focus Debswana’s ESG efforts in support of the broader business strategy so that more value can be derived from sustainability - In this regard, our journey will unfold in the following three phases of the Debswana Strategy: Survive & Stabilise (2025–2027): Focus on cost optimisation and operational resilience. Sustain (2027–2029): Strengthen financial sustainability and lay foundations for diversification. Thrive (2029+): Enable broader diversification and long- term growth. We are excited to move forward with the implementation of this robust and inclusive strategy. Every step we take towards our ESG goals creates a ripple effect of positive change. Every action count’s, every voice matters, let’s keep shaping a brighter future together for our people, our communities and our planet. The For purposes of contact with the project team, please reach out to: Thelma Gaefhele – Principal ESG Integration at Tgaefhele@debswana.bw.

Orapa, Letlhakane & Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) has partnered with Stepping Stones International (SSI) to implement the Breakthrough to Literacy Programme which aims to advance teachers competency to teach grammar, and comprehension with an aim of improving literacy levels targeting accuracy, fluency and reading comprehension for students in standards one to seven. The Programme will be implemented in three schools being; Supang Primary School in Letlhakane, Khwee Primary School and Mopipi Primary School. To kickstart the Programme SSI, recently conducted a literacy assessors’ training session at Letlhakane Main Kgotla ahead of the pre-assessment of students. The training brought together seven assessors, who were capacitated through a structured and practical literacy training programme. The sessions focused on strengthening assessors’ skills in identifying reading levels, administering literacy assessments, and supporting evidence-based interventions for young learners. The next stage of implementation will focus on training teachers and school heads, which will include provision of the literacy curriculum course to teachers, school

management and regional officers in the literacy methodology over a 5-day period. During implementation, quality control will be conducted by observing each teacher implementing classroom sessions 6 times over the year. Teachers are expected to do the literacy sessions a minimum of three times per week. Literacy post-assessments for students will be conducted at the end of the Programme to gauge improvement and impact and teachers who fully implemented the programme and passed the observation will be awarded a Literacy Intervention Certificate.
