SIGNAL TO SENTIENCE - merged

MESSAGE FROM ITU SECRETARY GENERAL Stewardship, Coordination, and Calm in a Time of Crisis

Today , 99% of international data flows through submarine cables: descendants of the very systems and collaboration that first brought Commonwealth countries together. CTO’s pledge to the Partner2Connect Digital Coalition on “Action for Connectivity Impact” is further evidence of your commitment to a better digital future for all. As emerging technologies like AI and quantum continue to evolve, the case for global cooperation and innovative partnerships only grows stronger. Technological change is constant. So too is our confidence that CTO will continue supporting its members in navigating digital transformation while strengthening the policy, regulatory and institutional capabilities needed for human-centered innovation. With 2.2 billion people still offline, we must continue working together to ensure that meaningful, affordable, secure, resilient, and trusted connectivity reaches everyone, everywhere. That means supporting universal access and service, building regulatory capacity, and strengthening cybersecurity and digital inclusion to meet the needs of Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States and other Member States facing specific connectivity challenges. From the first signals carried across the Commonwealth to the intelligent systems of today, the story of communications is still being written. ITU looks forward to continuing our work with CTO and its members so that digital technologies serve humanity, strengthen societies and economies, and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development for all.
