Intimidated by the idea of a cold plunge? Chill out.
T E X T PAUL HAGEN TAKE THE PLUNGE. HOME REMEDY F rom too-cool swimming pools to uncomfortably chilly shorelines, ending up in cold water usually seems like a fate to be avoided. But evidence shows that—under con- trolled circumstances—immersing oneself in cold water can have a variety of positive effects on health. After exer- cise, it may reduce inflammation and soreness for easier recov- ery. The chill may also help build resilience, balance the nervous system, and even improve the way we think and feel. Most people choose to plunge in water that’s 50°F to 60°F— cold enough to produce the desired physiological response but not dangerous. (For safety, avoid temperatures lower than 39°F.) Results may be achieved from one continuous immersion or multiple sessions with breaks. Many practitioners start with a manageable goal like 30 seconds, but can work toward up to 10 minutes at a time. Now, Kohler is making it easier than ever to plunge under ideal conditions, partnering with social wellness club Remedy Place to create the Kohler x Remedy Place Ice Bath. With precision temperature control, ergo-dynamic body position, UV filtration, integrated lighting, app connectivity for guided breathwork, and optional plumbing for indoor or outdoor tubs, it may finally be time to take home the coolest way to hack your health. ■

Pearlized debuted on these Kohler Derring Carillon Artist Editions sinks.
KOHLER’S LATEST BIG FINISH SHOW PEARL
T E X T PAUL HAGEN
K ohler is known for its groundbreaking design, but its latest finish may need to be seen to be be- lieved. Dubbed Pearlized, this iridiscence trans- forms ceramic surfaces into luminous works of functional art. Pearlized was developed in conjunction with artist David Franklin, the inaugural recipient of the Kohler MakerSpace residency. This is an invitational and proposal-based program that welcomes artists and designers to explore and create using the kind of workspaces, materials, and equipment that Kohler is uniquely qualified to provide. In the course of creating his awe-inspiring sculpture Once and Forever Lake Michigan (displayed at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium), Franklin worked with Kohler engineers to apply PVD technology—traditionally used on metal—to the 1,600 ceramic fish that compose the sculpture. The novel application of this technology and the rain- bow-like sheen it created became the basis for the Pearlized finish, which debuted on the Kohler Derring Carillon Artist Editions sink in an installation (pictured) that embodied the finish’s artful origins. “My work with Kohler has always been about discovery, finding new ways to express light, texture, and form through materials,” says Franklin. ■

MORE TO LOVE FROM A GREAT TEAM M C GEE WHIZ
Shea McGee helps cook up dream kitchen elements, including the Audrine sink.
T E X T STEWART KELLER W hen Kohler, with over 150 brand from husband-and-wife team Syd and Shea McGee, we expected the outcome to be exciting. Nevertheless, the depth and breadth of the lines resulting from their combined forces continue to surprise and delight. Audrine is the name of the first kitchen sink collection from this fab collab. Crafted from smooth, nonporous fireclay, it is designed to hold up beautifully under everyday use. The sink is available in apron front, undermount, and bar options to suit multiple spaces. Its functional, integrated ledge helps accessories—such as a years of experience creating timeless pieces for the home, joined forces with Studio McGee, the beloved design
basin rack, wire basket, berry basket, and solid white oak cutting board—nestle at counter height so that homeowners can handle meal prep with panache. Whether in White or Dune, Audrine’s substantial design instantly makes it feel like a modern classic. Above, the sink also pairs beautifully with another offering from Kohler x Studio McGee, the Edalyn kitchen fau- cet. “The Audrine collection is all about timeless design with thoughtful details and functionality,” says Shea. “I can’t wait to see how people bring it into their homes.” Meanwhile, when it comes to the latest offerings for the bath, Kohler x Studio McGee presents the Claude collection, which includes a one-piece smart toilet, traditional two-piece toilet, freestanding bath, console and pedestal

sinks, undermount sinks, vanities, and mirrors. “With Claude, we created an entire cohesive bathroom collection that feels grounded and enduring—with piec- es that draw you in,” explains McGee. Drawing inspiration from Kohler’s rich archives, the design of the Claude col- lection is rooted in architectural molding and classic furniture forms. The vanity (above) is an all-in-one solution with a Carrara quartz top and matching back- splash, undermount sink, and Studio McGee-designed Malin hardware. On the pedestal at right, note the chamfered (angled-edge) detailing that is one of the line’s defining characteristics. While you’re thinking about bringing Kohler x Studio McGee style into your space, keep their other lines in mind: the aforementioned Edalyn kitchen faucets, Castia for the bath, vanity collections including Malin and Seagrove, and lighting collections called Embra and Kernan. “We designed products that are inten- tional and innovative while leaning into architectural detail and classic propor- tions to deliver comfort and functional- ity expected in a modern home,” Shea explains. ■

SPECIAL LOCATION
The Eatontown Kohler Store is ready to welcome
This beautiful store is ready to offer a warm welcome to some new friends. Be My Neighbor
new clientele from Netflix.
T E X T STEWART KELLER N etflix is making a major investment in New Jer- sey. ”With construction already underway at Fort Monmouth, Netflix Studios is no longer a promise—it’s a reality taking shape,” said former Governor Phil Murphy. “This project represents the transformation of a long-dormant site into a world-class creative campus that will generate thousands of jobs, spark new busi- nesses, and anchor New Jersey’s film and television industry for decades.”
With exciting neighbors arriving mere minutes from the Eatontown Kohler Store, it seemed like the per- fect time to check in and see how they are preparing for the new arrivals. Store Manager Michelle Chierchia has already noticed a difference. “We are watching history being built right from our front windows,” she says. “The influx of entertainment profes- sionals will create a lot of growth for all surrounding businesses. We have had quite a few corporate executives in our store who have settled in the

area and are doing all their bathrooms. This is very exciting for all of us.” What will the experience be like for new arrivals? “After pulling into our parking lot—offering an abundance of spac- es,” Chierchia notes, “you will be greeted by our administra- tor, who welcomes you and directs you to the proper asso- ciate to ensure a seamless experience.” Chierchia mentions that recent visitors have shown particular interest in the smart toilets and updated Anthem shower systems. “When they realize how far plumbing has come, they are happy they decided to update their bathrooms.” But Chierchia wants all who walk through the door to feel taken care of. “For our trade, we want to add a valuable level of service to enhance their business and be support- ive—with professional staff, extensive inventory with next day delivery, and we really take our time to listen to our customers’ wants and needs. We were already living up to the Kohler brand before the sign was put on the building.” Chierchia invites newcomers to embrace all the vicinity has to offer. “The area is loaded with great places: Asbury Park’s boardwalk, restaurants overlooking the ocean, shows and theaters—it’s endless,” she says. As for grabbing a bite, one popular landmark is the nearby Americana Diner, but there is more to explore: “The Red Bank area, only being two miles from the Kohler Store, is basically a smorgasbord of restaurants—too many good ones to pick a favorite!” ■ MEET THE DESIGNERS How would you describe your per- sonal design style? Industrial chic with charm and flair.
This Kohler Purist sconce sets the mood.
Can you describe a memorable de- sign project you’ve worked on? I recently worked closely with build- ers and designers on a new St.Jude’s Dream Home in Manasquan, New Jersey. At the end of February, I will attend the floor signing. It’s been an amazing experience! What’s something you’ve seen in design that fascinates you? I love bold wallpaper on a ceiling. It breaks boundaries and allows any room to feel more exciting. How do you unwind? Scrapbooking is my go-to. It is a way to unwind and relax. I get to be cre- ative without any rules or restrictions. Can you share a challenge you en- countered on a design project and how you made it work? I helped a mother struggling to get her autistic son into the shower every day. We decided to add a few body sprays so that it would be more entertaining and a distraction for the son.
Who is someone that inspires you? Joanna Gaines, a well-known interior designer. I came across her book at Target shortly after graduating high school, and it decided my career path. What kind of project would you like to do more of? Ultimately, I would love to design more laundry rooms. It’s a place no one wants to spend time in, so let’s make it a little more enjoyable. Is there a TV show with design that you love? All’s Fair , a Hulu show. Every room showcases minimalist luxury and is architecturally interesting. If you were a color, what color would you be and why? Sage green. It’s a soft, earthy color that creates a soothing atmosphere in any room.
TAYLOR PASQUALINI EATONOWN
Is there a design upgrade you’d like to make in your own home? I’d love to incorporate a huge sun- room. I would lounge, read, and soak in some vitamin D with all my plants. What superpower would you want? I’d want to move as fast as the DC Comics character The Flash. I would quickly design, build, and finish thou- sands of bathrooms in a single week. Any summer vacation plans? I’m looking forward to exploring Spain with my family this summer. The beauty of the history and architecture is what I’m most excited about. Olé!

T here are plenty of special details about the most recent Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York. For example, it is the first time the event head- ed downtown to transform a building in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. And the fact that this edition marks the program’s 50th anniversary gave the proceedings a celebratory air. But the most extraordinary details were provided by the designers, who helped transform a 9,000-square-foot residence on West 12th Street. Olivia Williams Studio created a studio within the home (previous spread) into a space she dubbed Apartment Ryuu, adding shine via a custom brass bar with a Kohler Components faucet and Kohler Strive sink. Meanwhile, Purple Cherry Architects went for gold tones in a powder room (above) with capiz shell wallcovering and a Kohler Purist faucet.
In the Paraíso Encontrado bath (oppo- site page ) from Tamara Feldman Design, black-and-white collided with an explosion of color, including a teal Kohler San Souci toilet and a Kohler Artifacts freestanding bath with that same teal on the exterior but a Fresh Green interior. Other statement-making spots include a kitchen that the Christopher Peacock team calls an homage to quiet luxury. However, it is also ready for action with a Kohler Synthos workstation sink and Kohler Billet pull-down faucet. And there was more sparkle in the Gilded Waters bath from Melanie Roy Design, which combined white elements like a Kohler Veil pedestal sink with bright elements such as a Kohler Components faucet. Perhaps the most inspiring detail is that Kips Bay Decorator Show House has raised over $30 million, changing lives at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and beyond. ■
