Jeff Kohler Q: What is the core message of your campaign? My message is simple: Capable, Local, Proven Leadership. St. Thomas is entering one of the most important decades in its history, and the momentum we’re seeing comes from the people who live here and the work we’ve done together. I believe in disciplined, practical leadership that understands our city’s strengths, challenges, and heritage. Q: How has your experience prepared you to lead during this period of growth? I’m a lifelong resident of St. Thomas, and my career and public service experience have been rooted here. I’ve spent four decades in the automotive manufacturing industry, where I’ve gained leadership, budgeting, and team management experience. I also work as a mortgage agent, giving me insight into housing and affordability. With more than 22 years on council, including an earlier term as Mayor, I’ve been part of major decisions shaping our city’s growth, infrastructure, and longterm planning. My family’s long commitment to community service reinforces that experience. Q: What are the main priorities of your platform? My focus is improving quality of life for residents. That means affordable housing, with attention to seniors; continued improvements to transit; proper end of life care; and supporting low, competitive taxes and utilities. I will continue supporting the work of past councils to ensure we have adequate employment and residential lands for future generations. Growth must be managed responsibly so families, workers, and seniors all benefit. Q: How will you approach economic development? I will work to ensure our taxes stay competitive by supporting sensible growth and responsible spending. Attracting jobs and industries gives
us the tools to enhance quality of life while keeping residential taxes affordable. I will also encourage shared services and joint economic development opportunities with neighbouring municipalities and senior levels of government. Q: What does responsible growth look like for St. Thomas? We’re entering what may be the longest period of sustained growth in 50 years. World leading industrial and commercial investments are coming, but growth alone isn’t success. It must be balanced, managed, and aligned with our city’s mandate. That includes adhering to our Asset Management Plan before considering new spending, protecting our natural and built environment, and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with development. Q: What is your vision for St. Thomas moving forward? St. Thomas should be a place where people can live, work, and raise a family. Together, we can continue building on the momentum that has shaped our community and strengthened St. Thomas for decades. Make your money work harder.
