Lightning girls strike gold for season finale
Clarence-Rockland’s BantamHouse Girls Lightning capped off amagical season over the Easter weekend in Brampton, taking the gold medal in their division at the 49 th Brampton Canadettes, one of the biggest girls’ hockey tournaments in Canada. The win was the Lightning’s third tourna- ment gold of the year, on top of their unde- feated regular season and playoff record of 22-0-2 win/loss/tie total. The Lightning entered the Brampton tour- nament with a depleted lineup, missing key players Shanie Grondin, Casey Daigneault- Granger and Nadia Lefebvre, but the team still rose to the occasion, overwhelming other teams with precision passing and disciplined play. The defence group of Audrey Racine, Alyssa Forget, Camryn Gagne-LaVictoire and Bianka Louisseize-Taylor turned away attacks time and time again. Jessica Hupé and Juliane Rioux led the forward group of Ariane Forget, Kate Johnston, Dominike Duford, Jenna Hollett, Harper McBrearty, and Alexis Hillier. In the final against a tough team from Camillus, NewYork, Juliane’s early goal from the slot was all the Lightning would need as they cruised to a 3-0 victory and the title.
