FOR PERSONAL APPLICATION These aspects of the study can be used in between group sessions on your own, either with your spouse or individually as part of your devotional and confession life.
Do Something During the week ahead, turn your learning into doing.
Intentionally assess, with your spouse if married, the state of your children’s heart growth by examining their outward behavior in their relationships with God, themselves and others. Make sure to include input from third parties in your assessment. Write down what you learn. Then plan specific, intentional ways to reward their righteousness and address their hearts appropriately. Search Me, O God For introspection during the coming week. What does my outward behavior in each of my relationships—with God, myself and others—reveal to me about the state of my own heart growth? What errors do I see clearly that I need to take before the Great High Priest, who sits on the throne of grace, to help me in my need? ( Hebrews 4:14-16 .) Might there be errors and faults that I do not see? Who are some godly, trustworthy people in my life that I can ask for a third-party opinion? Want to Know More? It is interestingly easy to overlook the practical importance of the fact that the book of Proverbs was written by a father to teach wisdom to his son. It therefore represents an entire book in the Bible about how parents should instruct their children. Don’t miss the Proverbs forest for the proverb trees: in a single sitting, read through the prologue in chapters 1-9 ; look at, but don’t necessarily study, the big picture of a parent teaching a child. You will “inadvertently” receive a lot of helpful, practical guidance in heart training. For More From Paul Tripp: [Insert resource information]
