An empty lot on the corner of St- Jean-Baptiste St and Castelbeau St has been approved for residential development. In a regular meeting on September 20, Russell Township council passed a zoning bylaw amendment to allow for the development of a vacant property on the corner of St-Jean-Baptiste St and Castelbeau St. The amendment, put forth by a representative of the property owners and recommended by the Planning Advisory Committee, will allow for three townhouses to be constructed on the property. La plus récente plaque du programme de plaques historiques de Russell com- mémore le mouvement de la Voie de la Liberté. Le 7 octobre dernier, le programme de plaques historiques a dévoilé sa nou- velle plaque, située devant l’hôtel de ville d’Embrun. La plaque se trouve à côté de la réplique d’un monument de la Voie de la Liberté et raconte l’histoire de ces monuments. Après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mon- diale, le gouvernement français a érigé près de 1 200 monuments en pierre, le long de la route empruntée par les forces alliées pour la libération de l’Europe, de Utah-Beach en /PSNBOEJFÆ#BTUPHOFFO#FMHJRVF Cette route s’appelle la Voie de la Liberté et le monument situé devant l’hôtel de ville d’Embrun est une réplique des monuments qui jalonnent cette route en Europe. Il a été offert à la ville en 1995 par sa ville KVNFMMFE&NCSVO FO'SBODF QPVSDÊMÊCSFS le 50 e anniversaire de la fin de la guerre. Le monument qui se trouve actuellement devant l’hôtel de ville est un remplacement de l’original, qui s’est détérioré au point de ne plus pouvoir être sauvé dans le rude climat canadien.

Comme tout bon athlète, Owen Edginton ne s’arrête jamais et c’est ce qui fait de lui un Dynamo. «Il adore participer avec tous ses amis à l’école, a déclaré Diane Edginton, sa mère. .ËNFTJMOFHBHOFQBTEFQSJYPVBVUSFT il est là pour encourager les autres. Il est d’un grand soutien.» Ses efforts sportifs, qu’il s’agisse de compétitions personnelles ou de soutien à ses amis et collègues Dynamos de l’École secondaire catholique de Casselman (ESCC), ont valu à Owen Edington, 18 ans,un honneur particulier au début du nouveau trimestre. Interesting fact: elephant dentition is unique! Inmost animals, including human beings, teeth grow from the top and bottom of the mouth. However, an elephant’s teeth are developed from the back and then push forward instead of growing vertically. Another noteworthy fact is that they have six sets of molars in their entire lifetime. As these teeth wear out from persistent grinding, another pushes forward to replace it and so on, and so on, until the elephant’s last set of teeth erupt at 30 years of age. As the final molars begin to break down, it becomes increasingly difficult for these large mammals to chew and digest food, often leading them to die of starvation or malnutrition. Older elephants sometimes migrate to marshes where they have softer plant foods to eat. That being said, we may not treat elephants in my clinic (wouldn’t that be something?), but I do see a remarkable correlation to losing human teeth. I meet patients ages 30 to 40 who lose their teeth partially or completely either from grinding teeth, cavities, or gum disease. In other cases, this partial or complete tooth loss is due tomore difficult situations such as drug abuse and drug therapy. Because losing your natural dentition tends to decrease your ability to chew food tenfold, we will often meet patients who are developing gastrointestinal problems like gastric reflux, bloating, and generalized abdominal pain. These types of situations affect the entire body by decreasing the overall quality of nutrition. Luckily, we are not elephants! We have plenty of excellent solutions available to us so that we can maintain our ability to chew our food as well as we would with our natural teeth! The days are getting shorter and the temperature is getting cooler and that means time for the annual Snowsuit Campaign to get underway. Embrun Family Centre, in partnership with Prescott-Russell Group Action for Children, Families and Community, launches its 15th annual Snowsuit Campaign with the goal of making sure that children of families in need have a warm snowsuit so they can play outside during the winter. Marshall Drevniok a ensuite doublé l’avance des siens sur une passe de Charlie Bélanger. Toutefois, les Rebels n’avaient pas dit leur dernier mot, et Joshua Esford a réussi à réduire l’écart de moitié sans aide, avec 5:24 à écouler à la deuxième période. Trois minutes plus tard, Nolan MacMillan a créé l’égalité pour les Rebels, aidé par Devon St-Jean et Cameron Debellefeuille. Cependant, les Rebels n’ont pas été capables de maintenir la cadence en troi- sième période. Un excellent début de saison se poursuit pour les Panthères d’Embrun, alors que la séquence invaincue de l’équipe se prolonge à quatre matchs. Les Panthères recevaient les Junior Canadians d’Ottawa le 15 octobre dernier. L’équipe d’Embrun a complètement dominé la rencontre, écrasant l’équipe d’Ottawa par la marque de 5-0. Le gardien des Panthères, Aidan Foley, a récolté son premier jeu blanc de la saison, repoussant les 32 tirs d’Ottawa durant le match. Eric Skyba et Conor Mac- Donald se sont particulièrement illustré au cours de la rencontre, récoltant deux buts et une passe chacun. Marshall Drevniok a inscrit l’autre but des Panthères, alors que Riley Carisse a récolté deux passes. Par ailleurs, Robert Beaudoin, Isaac Leduc, Charlie Belanger, Ryan Primeau et Liam Mur- doch ont chacun obtenu une passe lors de cette victoire. Un match plus serré Les Panthères étaient de retour au jeu dès le lendemain, alors que l’équipe d’Embrun visitait les Rebels de Char-Lan. Les gardiens des deux équipes ont été mis à rude épreuve dès la première période.

CANCER DU SEIN Comment gérer les douleurs physiques et psychologiques après un traitement?
Grossesse après un cancer du sein : comment s’y préparer?
Vous avez terminé votre traitement contre le can- cer du sein? Bravo! Maintenant, une nouvelle étape commence : la convalescence. Durant cette période qui peut s’échelonner sur près d’un an, vous pourriez éprouver des douleurs phy- siques et psychologiques. Voici des pistes pour les surmonter. SUR LE PLAN PHYSIQUE Chirurgie, radiothérapie, chimiothérapie… peu im- porte le ou les traitements que vous avez subis, votre corps a été mis à rude épreuve. Surtout, laissez-lui le temps de guérir et suivez ces trois recommandations : 1. Si une douleur persiste au niveau de votre bras ou de votre épaule, vous pourriez souffrir du syn- drome des cordelettes axillaires. Sur le site cancer.ca, vous trouverez des exercices de ré- adaptation qui vous aideront grandement. 2. Si vous ressentez une douleur au thorax, à l’aisselle ou au bras après une opération, elle peut être due au syndrome douloureux post- mastectomie. Plusieurs traitements sont pos- sibles, comme la prise de médicaments ou le recours à la neurostimulation transcutanée. 3. Si vous ressentez des symptômes de lymphœ- dème (ex. : sensation de lourdeur, enflure) ou de neuropathie (ex. : engourdissements, picotements), consultez votre équipe de soins au plus vite.
SUR LE PLAN PSYCHOLOGIQUE Armez-vous de patience, car ces douleurs se- ront probablement les plus difficiles à surmonter durant votre convalescence. Parlez à votre équipe de soins et entourez-vous de vos proches dans les situations suivantes : • Vous souffrez d’un manque d’estime person- nelle puisque le cancer a affecté votre image corporelle (le recours à la chirurgie réparatrice pourrait être envisagé); • Vous vivez avec la peur de la récurrence du can- cer, ce qui peut causer de l’anxiété, voire provo- quer une dépression; • Vous êtes sujette à des troubles cognitifs; • Vous rencontrez des problèmes sur les plans de la sexualité ou de la fertilité. Saviez-vous qu’il est tout à fait possible de connaître les joies de la maternité après un cancer du sein? Néanmoins, les traitements tels que la chirurgie, la radiothérapie et la chimiothérapie peuvent faire diminuer la ferti- lité. C’est pourquoi une éventuelle grossesse doit être planifiée et figurer dans le plan de traitement de la patiente. Après le diagnostic, il est primordial que la patiente aborde le sujet avec l’équipe soi- gnante. Un programme de sensibilisation à la préservation de la fertilité a été développé par le Centre universitaire de santé McGill (CUSM). Son objectif? Que les femmes et le personnel soignant soient conscients que des stratégies doivent être élaborées avant tout traitement. Une rencontre avec un oncolo- gue est la première étape; la patiente pourra discuter avec lui des options qui s’offrent à elle. FAIRE CONGELER SES OVULES DISCUTER AVEC SON ÉQUIPE SOIGNANTE Ensuite, il faudra procéder à la congélation des ovules de la patiente. En effet, les traite- ments sont susceptibles de diminuer les chances de tomber enceinte naturellement, allant même jusqu’à causer une ménopause
précoce. S’assurer de conserver des ovules de bonne qualité pour une future grossesse est donc très important. CONSULTER UN SPÉCIALISTE DE LA FERTILITÉ Une fois le cancer vaincu, une rencontre avec un spécialiste permettra à la patiente d’éva- luer son degré de fertilité et de s’informer quant à la suite du processus.
