newsroom@eap.on.ca H AWKESBURY Special traffic enforcement initiative in Hawkesbury a prevention initiative where patrol officers will conduct special traffic enforcement on John street in Hawkesbury started August 29th to September 16 th . During that period, officers will target seatbelts, alcohol and speed infractions within the Town of Hawkesbury andmore particularly on John street,which includes theLongSault bridge. Drivers are reminded that the bestway to reduce your chance of being involved in a collision is by complying with speed limits. Limits are based on good dry road condi- tions. Drivers should adjust their vehicle speed according to traffic and road conditions. Alcohol is still a major contributor in road fatalities in Ontario. When drinking any amount of alcohol, the OPP strongly encourages drivers to call a taxi or get a ride with someone who has not consumed. Parties and outings are often planned ahead. Take the extra time to plan your ride back home or where to stay after the party. The fines for non-compliance to these rules can be hefty, but those that are careless and break the law might pay the ultimate price with their lives or the lives of others…think twice. À visit at the SD&G OPP On August 14, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to a collision on the Long Sault bridge situated at John street in Hawkesbury. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in a head-on crash. Alcohol, speed and the non-usage of the seatbelt were determined as being factors in the fatality.
