The study focuses on a sample of university professors at the University of Tlemcen’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The analysis of this selected sample of respondents aims to understand how Arab elites perceive the role that Al Jazeera channel has played in the political and social movement witnessed by the Arab region, known as the Arab spring, especially Tunisia and Egypt from 2010 to 2015. The thesis examines areas of agreements and disagreements in attitudes and trends of the surveyed sample of professors towards the channel’s media discourse. It also examines the role played by Al Jazeera through its continuous extensive media coverage of the Tunisian and Egyptian political developments. The study concluded with a number of results including that the Al Jazeera media coverage of political events in the two countries contributed to the making of two models of public opinion, one supporting and the other opposing the nature, objectives and backgrounds of the channel’s coverage and media discourse.
