We learnt about choosing our core values, which will help us to know when we are not being treated right, or when we are being abused. We then got onto the physical stuff, which we are only supposed to use as a last resort. The moves were first demonstrated to us, then we had to try it out on instructors carrying punching pads. At the end, we were put into a fake scenario, where the instructors grabbed us and we had to fight our way out of it.

This was a really educational workshop that taught us important life skills; I think self-defense is a really crucial thing to know and this was very useful. RNLI: The day ended with an assembly by RNLI volunteers from Teddington Lock. We learnt about cold water shock - the main cause of drowning when people jump into water on a hot day. They told us how to save yourself if you experience this by floating on your back, ears in the water for 90 seconds.
All in all, this was a really fun yet educational day, and I’m sure the students next year will enjoy it as much as we did!
