YEAR 7 CARNEGIE SHADOWING CLUB

For three months, Room E8 was transformed every Thursday afternoon into a lively haven for the Carnegie Shadowing Club, led by Miss Birch and Mr Hawes. Students dove into the prestigious Carnegie Medal book list, exploring everything from animal rescue to sea-soaked communities! The weekly sessions quickly became a beloved routine, combining a shared passion for literature with an incredible community spirit fuelled by a rotating roster of legendary bakes, including homemade bronuts and gooey cookie dough. The atmosphere was entirely stress-free, with members encouraged to bring in their books and share their first impressions whether they had finished reading them or not. Using a shared Reading Log, the group tracked their literary journeys and debated various plot twists, narrative styles, and character developments over plates of sweet treats. Every book sparked great conversation, keeping everyone laughing, snacking, and talking for weeks. The end of term meant books were returned and the final reading logs were filled out. The group members all agreed that the mix of great books, massive debates, and top-tier baking made it a great space, leaving everyone hoping another teacher might restart it in the future!
