Plowing match to receive funding from CFDC

Guy Lauzonwas on hand onMay 4 in order to announce that the Cornwall and the Counties Community Futures Develop- ment Corporation (CFDC) will be investing funds in the upcoming 2015 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo. The Cornwall and the Counties CFDCwill support the event with two Eastern Ontario Development Program investments totalling $100,000, geared towards advertising and marketing efforts. “There has never been a bigger opportunity than this Internatio- nal Plowing Match and Rural Expo to have tens of thousands visitors come to SD&G, many of them for the first time,” outlined Jim Brownell, chair of the event. “These funds will make sure we are able to promote the event across Ontario, Quebec, and evenNor- thern New York in different forms to draw visitors to our region this September.” The local International Plowing Match Committee will receive $50,000 to purchase advertising andmarketing opportunities to visitors from across Ontario, Quebec, and northernNewYork, and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry (SD&G) will receive $50,000 to showcase the region’s assets and local communities during the major tourism event. “Having the unique opportunity to host an International Plowing Match & Rural Expo in SD&G is a huge event and a real chance to bring people to our community and showcase what we are all about,” explai- ned Lauzon. “I am proud to see the federal government and the local CFDCmake sure Cornwall’s streetscape is gaining a little bit of colour with the arrival of new street ban- ners along Water Street and in the Down- town and Le Village business districts. The colourful banners are replacing exis- ting banners that featured events and people from the War of 1812. The new banners celebrate life in Cornwall as depicted by several different local artists. The colourful banners will be joined by a ninth banner that celebrates French culture in Cornwall, in honour of the 400 th anniver- sary of Francophones in Ontario. This is the fourth series of banner designs erected in Cornwall since 2007. There are approximately 75 banners in the current series and they are expected to have a lifes- pan of 2-3 years.

Man caught removing ex’s property A 37-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 1 and charged with break and enter and theft under $5000. It is alleged that, on April 30, the man entered his ex-girlfriend’s house and removed property that did not belong to him. On May 1, during an investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.– Francis Racine Il endommage la voiture de sa copine Un homme de Cornwall, âgé de 36 ans, a été arrêté le 8 mai dernier et fait face à des accusations de méfait.
