PROJECT

QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY STUDENT CENTRE

SOUND, STAGE LIGHTING AND AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT

A bsolute Technologies supplied and installed all sound, stage lighting and audio-visual equipment throughout One Elmwood. The services provided by the audiovisual company included digital signage, information screens, video conferencing systems in meeting rooms and loudspeakers and screens in the bars. In Mandela Hall, they installed state- of-the-art sound, lighting, and visual presentation systems to support a wide variety of events, from conferences to music concerts by international touring artists. “This project required a wide range of skills, not only due to the diversity of the systems needed, but also to take the project from the development of the consultant’s design right through to commissioning,” commented Absolute Technologies owner Ian McKeown. “We achieved

that with the help of our in-house teams of designers and AV engineers.” Their in-house team’s creativity was also key to facing challenges caused by the COVID pandemic, such as supply chain shortages and extended lead times. “We managed this by working closely with our suppliers to identify delivery timescales,” Ian explained. “In some instances, certain items of equipment were not available, so we worked with the client’s representatives to re-design certain systems without sacrificing functionality.” Working on such a large project, keeping the communication channels open and flowing was crucial for a successful delivery. “The key is to promote good communication while working with end- users to understand how they will use the technology, with the design team about how our systems integrate with the fabric

of the building, and with other trades to coordinate the installation,” Ian said, “It is also important to manage the partnership with our suppliers to identify and solve supply chain issues.”
