S P O R T S RUSSELL TRACK STARS ARE HEADED FOR EOSSAA CHALLENGE

The village of Russell will be well represented at the Eastern Ontario regional track and field championships. Between the two of them, Russell High School and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School are sending a combined total of two dozen athletes to Brockville, this week, for the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Associations track and field meet (EOSSAA). Coaches for both teams expressed satisfaction with the top-four results for their teams at the Prescott-Rus- sell Track and Field Championships, May 14, at the Terry Fox Field at Mooney’s Bay in Ottawa. “The kids did really well,” said Coach Gord Zubyk, about the RHS Timberwolves contingent. “It’s a strong group of kids, and setting that many meet records for a small school was also pretty impressive. I think that they’re going to do well, I think they have a good chance of making top five at EOSSAA.” “We had a lot of success this year,” said Coach Nicholas Longval, about the STA Ravens performance in track and field this season. “We have several standout results from the Prescott-Russell meet.” One of those “stand outs” is Keely Zandbelt, a Ravens junior shot-putter, whose performance at EOSSAA last year qualified
