hand there are many, many wonderful men of God who take the Bible as their sole authority and share with others the practical and priceless nug gets they have found. Q . Spokane, Washington — “Did Jesus ever smile or laugh?” A. There is no reference suggesting that our Lord ever did. We know that He hungered, wept and showed other emotions so we have every reason to believe that 'He also laughed. He at tended the wedding at Cana.- It would be a strange situation to have someone there with a very solemn attitude. Cer tainly He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, however, that does not mean that He would not enjoy His own creation. Q . Tucson, Arizona — “M y wife is filled with self-pity and constantly says ‘I’m no good.’ Though she is a good wife, I sometimes feel like saying, ‘Thais right, you aren’t any good.’ Perhaps that would stop her inferiority. What do you think?” A. Do not tell your wife that she isn’t any good. That would be the worst thing to do. Analyze why your wife is filled with self-pity. Perhaps she is actually physically ill. She may have some ailment plaguing her. Find out what the reason is. Perhaps things in the home are too heavy for her. Maybe she has had a very unhappy childhood. She could be meloncholy for a num ber of reasons. It is also possible that your wife receives no thanks for the work she does do and so takes pity on herself. Tell her in God’s sight that none of us has any merit but that through Christ we are all made just in God’s sight. God will empower us to do that which is good in His eyes. Remind her that she may be expecting perfection in herself. God does not ex pect us to be perfect in this life. He knows that we will fall and for that reason He has provided us a Saviour. Take a lot of time to build up her self-esteem and self-confidence. Doubt less whatever you have achieved in
this life is due in large measure to the support of your wife. Built her up in the eyes of the children, your friends, and neighbors. Q . Turlock, California — “/ know that Christians s h o u ld never have evil thoughts but I must confess I do fre quently. How can one rid himself of evil thoughts?” A. This is a very real problem, per haps one of the greatest confronting the Christian. The Bible assures us, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3). Here’s the secret of a victorious Christian life. The reason we get into all kinds of difficulties is because we have our minds on ourselves. While the Lord does not make provision for us to sin, yet He does make provision so that when we do sin and have evil thoughts, it is possible to be forgiven (I John 1:9; 2:2). Let us fall with our face toward the Lord Jesus Christ and confess our sin, knowing that He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from every stain. Q . Medford, Oregon — “If Jesus was ‘in the likeness of sinful flesh’ as is described in Romans 8:3 how could He be sinless?” A. The Bible says that He came “in the likeness of sinful flesh'.” He not only had every appearance of being a human being but also He was a real human being. It means that while this was true yet He was without sin. God sent His own Son as an offering for sin. Q . Wichita, Kansas — “What did Jesus mean in Matthew 22:32 when He said, ‘God is not the God of the dead, but of the living’? Were not Abraham, Isaac and Jacob dead? Weren’t these particularly close to God?” A. Our Lord was making this state ment to people who were in error about the resurrection. The Sa dduc e e s wouldn’t believe anything apart from
