Taggart Miller Group has been looking at developing a waste disposal and recycling operation in Eastern Ontario for several years. The original plan was for a site loca- ted in Russell Township on North Russell Road. That has met opposition both from the township and from local groups. The
Russell Township is telling the province one more time that it is opposed to a proposal from an Ottawa-based consortium for a new waste disposal project located near its municipal border. Township council voted approval during its Feb. 17 session to send a letter to the provincial Environment Ministry, prior to a Feb. 20 deadline, restating its concerns about the Taggart Miller Group’s proposed Capital Region Resource Recovery Centre project (CRRRC). The site the company favours for the project is on Boundary Road near Carls- bad Springs with eastern limits of the City of Ottawa’s Cumberland Ward. Mayor Pierre Leroux said during a phone interview that the same objections that the

company then began looking at an alterna- tive site on Boundary Road. That too has met opposition from a local community group and also CumberlandWard Coun. Stephen Blais. As part of its provincial permit appli- cation to go ahead with further development work on the project, Taggart Miller Group has conducted an environmental assess- ment (EA) on both sites. The company’s final EA report is available online at www.
