Labelexpo Reports Record Attendance

FIRST 6.0 Launched At FTA Fall Meeting Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) launched its latest publication, FIRST 6.0 (Flexographic Image Repro- duction Specifications and Tolerances) at its recent Fall Conference 2017, which was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Commemorating 20 years since its ini- tial release, the how-to guide to statisti- cal process control is a comprehensive collection of flexographic knowledge, set with current industry guidelines for printing quality and consistency. According to the FTA, FIRST 6.0 pro- vides a foundation for the methodology of control, optimization, fingerprinting, characterization and process improve- ment throughout the printing supply chain. Setting this publication apart from its predecessors is the expansion of standards in the appendix. In addition, there have been major overhauls to the printing and pre- press sections for streamlining and refinement of text. Updates to these areas allow printers, prepress hous- es, designers and customers to ac- cess the knowledge needed to continuously improve the entire printing procedure.

L abelexpo Europe 2017 culminated in its biggest-ever edi- tion with record-breaking exhibitor and visitor figures and show floor occupying nine exhibition halls — 12 percent big- ger than 2015.

PIA Launches Spoilage Survey

Printing Industries of America (PIA) will be investi- gating spoilage within the printing industry. Data will be collected by means of a survey distributed to printing companies. The aim of the examination is to better understand the extent that spoilage is tracked, how statistics are calculated, and more importantly, the range and aver- age of spoilage levels by size and type of company. In addition, it seeks to understand whether low spoilage figures correlate to other company behaviors such as having standardized processes. “The goal is to let managers benchmark their con- trol of spoilage,” said James Workman, PIA’s Vice Presi- dent of the Center for Technology and Research. PIA also expects the survey results to give insight into best practices for measuring and calculating spoilage. A summary report of the findings will be sent to all survey respondents, and a white paper will be shared with member companies. A session on the findings will be featured at the 2018 Continuous Improve- ment Conference,April 8-11 in Chicago, Illinois.

Skilled flexo printers know any variation in temperature, humidity, substrates and a host of other conditions will affect the quality of their work. Cleanliness of lines, accuracy of colors and softness of shades can make or break a job. But if you want to maximize profits, you need to optimize uptime, speed and quality. The anilox rollers and sleeves in your presses are only as good as the science behind them—the technology of precision . ARC rollers and sleeves are built to exacting OEM dimensions, with cell geometries engineered for efficient ink usage and precise volumes.
