Policy & Procedure
The Chef Engineer came by and had a chat with the Engineer and reminded him of the safe work practice training that was delivered last week. As a result: • The blade hood guard with spreader and anti- kickback fingers were installed and the blade lowered. • A push stick, NOT his hand is used to keep the lumber in place. • The Engineer put on a face shield. • When using power tools, it is important to: ◊ Keep your eyes on the task. ◊ Keep your hands out of the line of cutting. ◊ Wear your PPE.
• Do you see anything wrong with what the Engineer above is doing? Do you ever do this? Maybe so? • The blade is too thigh for the lumber thickness. • The hood guard and spreader with anti- kickback fingers are not installed over the blade. • He is holding the lumber in place with his hand in line with the saw blade. • He is not wearing his PPE, face shield or safety glasses. • In this scenario, he can have an eye injury from flying particles, be struck by lumber that binds on the blade and kicks back, or severely cut his hand.
