Implement controls & provisions to reduce exposure hazards involved with electrical work PURPOSE: The purpose of this document is to implement controls and provisions to reduce exposure hazards involved with electrical work and systems throughout Atrium properties. This policy applies to any work being completed by Atrium employees on electrical panels, distribution, boxes, wall outlets, etc. The Chief Engineer will ensure that the tools, equipment and training will comply with applicable OSHA and NEC regulations. The Chief Engineer will also ensure via regular documented property inspections that all electrical hazards are properly controlled. Via training and supervision, employees who might be exposed to electrical hazards will be made familiar with this document. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Coordinator/Chief Engineer:
• Has overall responsibility for program implementation and updates • Acts as technical resource to staff on safety program implementation • Periodically audits program implementation via observations and recordkeeping review • Reviews accident investigation findings on accidents involving electrical hazards • Authorizes purchasing of equipment for company use. • Ensure that all areas with high voltage be marked “Danger – High Voltage – Keep Out” • Keep all entrances to electrical closets locked always. • Ensure that three feet of clearance is maintained from electrical panel face to all other material. • Ensure that all electrical enclosures located outdoors are inaccessible to the public. If enclosures are accessible, they must be designed so that exposed nuts or bolts cannot be easily removed. • Protect all outdoor electrical enclosures exposed to vehicle traffic with suitable guards. Supervisor/Managers: • Trains employees on safe equipment use and maintains proper record keeping of all training • Monitors employee behaviors for compliance with safe work standards — and enforces safe work standards • Qualify and authorize employees to complete work on electrical systems. • Monitors condition of equipment through visual inspection and annual testing. • Identify Hazards that include o Open/exposed electrical panels o Incorrect tool selection for work being performed o LOTO (refer to LOTO SOP) o Overhead electrical (outside or inside) • Provide tools for employees to safely complete work assigned.
