Policy & Procedure
o Digital multimeter, wire strippers, non-contact voltage detector, insulated hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.), insulated ladders • Have a qualified electrician inspect electrical equipment that has gotten wet before energizing it. • Take unsafe electrical equipment out of service immediately.
• Ensure that all electrical equipment and panels are securely mounted. • Ensure that all electrical equipment is guarded against accidental contact. Employees: • Understand and follow safety requirements • Always use caution when working near electricity.
• Use appropriately rated PPE for all job tasks. • Never assume that a wire is safe to touch. • Always follow proper LOTO procedures for electrical equipment. o View LOTO SOP for more detail • Stay at least 10 feet away from overhead wires during cleanup and other activities. • If working from heights, survey the area ahead of time for overhead wires. • Never operate electrical equipment while you are standing in water • Never repair electrical cords or equipment unless qualified and authorized. • Inspect electric cord and equipment to ensure that they are in good condition and free of defects prior to operation. • Use a ground fault circuit interrupter when working near water. This includes: o Pools o Bathrooms o Laundry Rooms o Kitchen o Service/Facility Areas • Notify supervisor of any electrical equipment or panels that is not securely mounted. • Notify supervisor of any electrical equipment or wire that could expose people to accidental contact.
