Do you have operational management experience within a commercial, facilities or cleaning services environment combined with experience of working in a management team? We are seeking a highly motivated and pro-active Facilities Manager (Cleaning Services) to play a key role in the delivery of our strategy to provide high quality cleaning service and an exceptional student/customer experience. Working as part of the Senior Management Team you will be responsible for the management and delivery of an effective cleaning service across the main University campus. You will lead, motivate and develop your teams of staff to deliver an effective and efficient service in line with our strategic priorities and goals; including ensuring the delivery of an efficient and cost effective Cleaning Service. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all current legislation and best industry practices. You will have significant experience of leading and managing staff within a cleaning function as well as experience of working as part of a management team. You will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively with others and build effective working relationships.

What does the role entail?

As a Facilities Manager (Cleaning Services) your main duties will include:

• Leading, managing and motivating staff to deliver a service in line with the expectations set out in the Service’s and University strategic aims. Ensuring that staff are appropriately appraised and developed and that two-way communication takes place effectively; • Contributing to the development of strategic plans for the service and translating these into action plans and objectives fo r staff, ensuring that these align with the strategic objectives of the service and the University

• Managing change effectively in line with the Service’s strategic plan; • Ensuring that a high quality and cost effective facilities management service is delivered to customers within the University and key partners based on campus, ensuring that key performance indicators are set alongside a service level agreement; • Developing proactive working relationships with key managers (Faculty and Service based) to deliver an integrated approach to facilities management, and where possible identifying opportunities and delivering a continuous improvement plan; • In conjunction with the Deputy Director of Campus Support Services, and the Management Accountant, managing and reviewing budgets, ensuring that expenditure is monitored and controlled in line with the University’s financial regulations; • Assisting the Deputy Director of Campus Support Services with the tendering and procurement of service contracts and products in line with the University financial procedures; • Promoting and delivering a strong customer culture, continuously monitoring and responding to customer feedback, complaints and satisfaction surveys in order to continuously improve service delivery; • Overall responsibility for ensuring that cleaning staff and contractors are complying with relevant mandatory and statutory standards/regulations as determined by the University, health and safety management system and ensuring effective management of Health and Safety across sites; • Managing external contractors including window cleaning, pest control, hygiene services and waste management. Attending and chairing contract review meetings to monitor contractors in accordance with spend, quality, health and safety and programmes of work; • Monitoring Cleaning Services performance and implementing a thorough internal audit programme, producing appropriate statistics as required. Market testing of service and benchmarking performance against external organisations as appropriate; • Attending and leading internal and/or external working groups and implementing any decisions made on behalf of the service; • Working collaboratively and pro-actively with other members of the Campus Support Services Senior Management Team to deliver a high level of service in support of strategic aims;

• Contributing to the project management of significant change programmes across the campus, areas undergoing major refurbishments and new buildings, by ensuring that cleaning provision is catered for; • Working as part of the wider Campus Support Services Management team and supporting Managers and supervisors in those teams, including Facilities Support Services and Security Services; • Promoting and delivering leadership and management responsibilities in accordance with the University’s people management framework, leadership programme and uphold CCSS and University values through personal example and working practices. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. Hours worked, will be flexible and as required to meet the demands of the business. i.e. 5 days over 7 (normally Monday to Friday, weekends may need to be worked during University Open days). The post holder will also, on request undertake management and supervisory responsibilities in other Campus Support teams including Facilities Support Services and Security Services. Hours of Work As a Facilites Manager (Cleaning Services) you will have: • Significant experience of leading and managing staff within a cleaning function (commercial or institutional) combined with experience of working in a management team; • A proven ability to lead and manage staff including effectively and to create an environment where staff are motivated and supported to achieve service/organisational goals; • Significant working knowledge of building maintenance contracts and relevant Health and Safety legislation; • Significant experience of contract management and performance improvement and experience of procurement activity and tendering contracts; • Proven ability to lead and manage change effectively; What will you bring to the role?

• Strong communication skills, with an ability to interact with people at all levels, both internally and externally and to develop effective working relationships; • Ability to solve complex problems and resolve difficult situations using own initiative, sound judgement and political awareness; • Excellent IT skills with experience of using MS Office Software and computerised information systems; • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise, plan and organise own and others’ workloads effectively and work under pressure to meet strict deadlines; • A full current valid driving licence (manual vehicles) as work will involve travelling between sites and properties; • Demonstrable behaviours in line with University and Commercial and Campus Support values. You may also have: • A degree or equivalent qualification in a facilities management related subject; • Membership of a relevant professional body i.e. British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM); • Experience of monitoring budgets; • Experience of working in a similar large, multi-building, complex organisation.
