Champlain Township’s new mayor and council met for a brainstorming session with economic development as one of the top priorities for their strategic plan over the next four years. Getting started on development of a new business park for the township led the start of the three-hour-long special council meeting December 5. Prior to the meeting, council members spent the day on a guided bus tour of the municipality with township staff providing information on local infrastructure, existing programs and services, and features of each ward. “My priority would be to get the infrastruc- ture in there so we can start selling the lots and get some money back to the township,” TBJE5SPZ$BSLOFS 8BSEDPVODJMMPSi5IBU is a (financial) return to our township. That helps to expand our (business) tax base.” Carkner observed that an early start on servicing the site would leave the township in a good strategic position for any major business investment proposals or senior government grant opportunities.
