All men are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the love of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. • Salvation has been made available through Jesus Christ for all men; those who repent and be- lieve in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God. • It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion. • Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mor- tal body. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the church in the present age.

Our American ancestors — from the first colonists who left their homelands to sail to the New World, to the pioneers that traversed the harsh wilderness and put down roots in the West, to those who endured the Great Depression and Dust Bowl Days, to those who lived through two World Wars — all had one thing in common. They

And yes, we can look back and see plenty of blemishes on the legacy we’ve left in history. But for a couple centuries, we were a God-fearing people. And “Make America Great Again,” with an emphasis on rebuilding the foundations of our coun- try’s glory days, resonated with so many. Of course, there were also

And as the closing line of our Declaration of Independence says, “...and with a firm re- liance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutu- ally pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.” Generations ago, our children used to have that phrase memorized, because real American His- tory was taught in our schools, and it meant some-

This is what’s been taught in American History classes in our public schools and colleges for decades. And certainly there are some examples of this within our history, but for the most part, our

Our US Constitution, written in 1787, begins with, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union…” Yes, we were united as a people and the Stars and Stripes meant something. God had blessed our people and our new nation, and we hon- ored and revered Him. We recognized and were thankful for His blessings. On April 30, 1789, in New York City, our capital at the time, George Washing- ton was officially sworn in as our first president under the Constitution. He knelt down and kissed the Bible on which he took his oath of office, and fin-

Freedom That Lasts

If anyone thinks they are free from the label of being a sinner, Scripture contradicts that errant thought. “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” (Ecclesiastes

7:20). “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). The universal sinful condition of man comes with a penalty. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23). With such a penalty upon all of mankind, how can one gain eternal freedom? It’s important to realize that man cannot earn this freedom by any merit of his own — “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” (Titus 3:5). It is only the shed blood of Christ that

They mutually pledged “to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Indeed, the quest for freedom had begun. This new-found freedom came under immediate threat and attack. Some 6800 American lives were lost in the Revolutionary War and many more were wounded, but the grit and deter- mination for liberty rose above all else.

the First Amendment is about freedom of “worship,” rather than the freedom of religion. By doing so, they suggest that worship must stay in the four walls of the building and not in the public arena. How long these freedoms will remain, no one truly knows, as there is a great effort to dismantle them and bind “We the people” once again. Some of the efforts to subvert this document are vo- calized; other efforts are clandestinely planned behind closed doors. The American people must not forget that freedom is not free. There are those who sacrificially paid the ultimate price for us to have these freedoms today. Americans must maintain a stead- fast vigilance to safeguard these liberties. While attempts to undermine this Constitutional Republic will continue, there is a freedom that can never be taken away. I’m referring to an eternal freedom that is only found in Jesus Christ. Every individual is in bondage to sin. It is sin that separates man from a holy, righteous God. No merit of man can break the shackles of this sin. No matter how hard man tries, he must rec-

Each person must realize that only by placing their trust in Jesus that this ever- lasting freedom from sin’s penalty can take hold. “Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condem- nation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.” (Romans 5:18). “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” (Ephesians 1:7). While freedoms to Americans will continue to face attack and face erosion, the freedom found in Jesus Christ will NEVER suffer loss or be rescinded. It is crucial for each individual to obtain this freedom found only in Jesus. It doesn’t come naturally; it comes supernaturally, as one places their trust in Jesus. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32). VCY.org

Eleven years after the signing of the Declaration of Independ- ence, another battle for freedom ensued in the drafting of the United States Constitution. After debate and agreeing upon a final document, Elizabeth Willing Powel asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” To the question Dr. Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” After being drafted in 1787, the document went to the 13 colonies for ratification which occurred in 1788. While the United States Constitution is the longest surviving charter of government in the world, it faces regular attack includ- ing, on many occasions, by each of the three branches of gov- ernment, which the document established. James Madison was the architect of the First Amendment which protects the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to peacefully assemble, and the right to pe- tition the government. These rights are cherished, but these free- doms have also suffered numerous attacks. Law professor Jonathan Turley wrote a book, “The Indispen-

Many Christians today consume biblical teaching in the same way they consume every other form of online content. Instead of sustained study, theology can become fragmented into short clips and brief emotional moments. Sermons become thirty-second videos. Complex doctrine becomes condensed into catchy quotes. Difficult passages

Technology is meant to be a tool, not a source of ultimate authority. Human beings have always looked somewhere for guidance and meaning. Historically, people sought wisdom through family, tradition, religion, philosophy, or trusted relationships. Increasingly, however, many individuals now turn first toward digital systems.

Not long ago, discipleship primarily happened through the local church, faithful pastors, family devotions, and personal Bible study. Believers gathered together, sat under sound teaching, and matured

This becomes concerning because algorithms and ar- tificial intelligence do not possess spiritual discernment. They cannot convict sin. They cannot produce genuine wisdom. They cannot replace the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Scripture describes God’s Word as “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.” (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible does not merely comfort people; it confronts them. It exposes pride, reveals sin, and calls believers toward repentance and transformation. Algorithms function differently. Rather than confronting people, they frequently reinforce preferences. Instead of challenging assumptions, they often amplify them. In- stead of exposing blind spots, they commonly provide more of what users already enjoy. A virtual tickling of the ear. That creates a kind of digital echo chamber where people increasingly hear reflections of themselves. Spir- itual growth, however, rarely happens inside echo cham- bers. None of this means believers should abandon technol- ogy altogether. Social media and digital platforms can spread the gospel, encourage believers, and connect be-

through relationships with other Christians. Spiritual growth was often a slower process. One built around reading, reflection, prayer, and learning from those who had walked with Christ longer than they had. While those things still exist today, a significant shift has taken place. The average Christian now lives in a world saturated with digital content. Before many people open their Bibles in the morning, they reach for a phone. Before hearing from a pastor on Sunday, they may have already consumed dozens of videos, podcasts, memes, and social media posts. The modern believer often enters a worship service after spending hours immersed in a completely different information environment. Something else has quietly entered the discipleship process. The smartphone has become a constant com- panion, and the social feed increasingly functions as a type of digital pulpit. Every swipe introduces ideas, val- ues, fears, opinions, and worldviews. The issue is not merely that people are consuming more information than previous generations; it is that invisible systems now de- termine much of what they see. Those systems are called algorithms.

become reduced to simplistic explanations. Short-form content is not inherently bad. God can certainly use brief messages to encourage believers or point someone toward truth. A short video may inspire a person to study a passage further or intro- duce them to a teaching they might otherwise miss. Problems emerge, however, when snippets replace substance. There is a significant difference between hearing a thirty-second motivational clip and studying an entire chapter of Scripture within its context. There is a difference between watching a highlight and un- derstanding the complete message. Sound doctrine requires depth, and depth takes time. Recent concerns about shortened attention patterns have only in- tensified these discussions. Many researchers and educators con- tinue observing increasing difficulty among younger generations in maintaining sustained focus amid constant digital stimulation. Whether scrolling through endless videos or rapidly switching be- tween applications, attention increasingly becomes fragmented. Spir- itually speaking, this creates important questions. If believers become accustomed to consuming information in ten- second increments, what happens when they are asked to sit quietly and meditate on Scripture? What happens when prayer feels slow? What happens when studying an entire book of the Bible requires more effort than scrolling through dozens of videos? Psalm 1 describes the righteous person as someone who delights in God’s law and meditates upon it day and night. Meditation requires concentration and stillness. Yet, stillness has become increasingly rare in a world filled with notifications and constant stimulation. Recent developments involving artificial intelligence have introduced an entirely new dimension to these concerns. Throughout the past

Technology itself is not the enemy. The greater issue involves stew- ardship. Believers must ask whether they are controlling technology or whether technology is controlling them. The issue is not whether someone owns a smartphone. The issue is whether the smartphone increasingly owns their attention. Perhaps Christians need to periodically examine themselves by asking difficult questions. How much time am I spending in God’s Word compared to scrolling through content? What voices influence me most each day? Am I consuming more opinions than Scripture? Am I pursuing truth or simply pursuing whatever captures my atten- tion? Those questions matter because discipleship is rarely neutral. Something is always shaping our thinking. Something is always in- fluencing our values. Something is always teaching us how to inter- pret reality. Jesus warned His followers in Mark 4:24, “Take care what you listen to.” Those words may carry even greater significance in the age of algorithms. The modern world is filled with endless voices competing for atten- tion. But followers of Christ must remember that not every voice de- serves authority over their minds. The Church cannot allow social feeds to become its primary teachers. Believers cannot allow algo- rithms to replace biblical discipleship. Because if Christians are not intentionally being shaped by God’s Word, something else will gladly do the shaping for them. And in- creasingly, that something may be sitting in the palm of our hands.

Unlike a pastor who prayerfully prepares a message or a teacher who intentionally builds a lesson, algorithms are designed around a different objective. Their purpose is not spiritual maturity. Their pur- pose is attention. They are designed to learn what captures us, what keeps us watching, and what prevents us from moving on to some- thing else. That reality raises an important question for Christians: If something is constantly shaping our thoughts, then who (or what) is teaching our minds? The battle for truth has always involved the mind. Scripture repeat- edly warns believers about deception, false teaching, and conformity to worldly thinking. Romans 12:2 tells believers, “And do not be con- formed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...” The battlefield of spiritual warfare has never simply been ex- ternal; it has always involved what people believe and how they think. What makes our present moment unique is that the competition for attention has become relentless. Modern platforms are built around systems that study user behavior. Every pause on a video, every click on an article, every search, and every interaction becomes data. Al- gorithms learn preferences and then serve increasingly personalized content designed to maximize engagement. If a user watches several videos involving political outrage, more outrage appears. If they stop on conspiracy content, more conspiracy content follows. If they linger on something inappropriate, more inappropriate stories begin filling their feed. The system simply gives people more of what appears to hold their attention. Research in recent years has increasingly suggested that emotion- ally charged and sensational content often spreads more effectively online than carefully reasoned information. This creates a troubling dynamic because truth and engagement are not necessarily the same thing. Truth frequently requires patience, context, and thoughtful con- sideration. Emotional reactions, however, happen almost instantly. The result is a culture increasingly conditioned to react before think- ing. For believers, this should create concern because spiritual maturity has never been built on immediate reactions. Growth in Christ often develops through slow and intentional practices: reading Scripture, praying, studying doctrine, spending time in fellowship, and allowing God’s Word to transform the mind over time. The digital world in- creasingly trains people in the opposite direction. The influence of algorithms extends beyond entertainment and pol- itics; it increasingly shapes theology itself.

Some users have described AI systems in surpris- ingly personal terms, seeking comfort, affirmation, and meaning through con- versations with machines. Technology has always served prac- tical purposes, and artificial intelligence can certainly provide useful information and assistance. Yet Christians should recognize an important distinction.

Every Church Needs an Evangelism Strategy

And here is the case why churches are particularly equipped to do the job. 1) Christian congregations are just that: con- gregating places for God’s people. We are good at doing the work of the verb “congregate” — an action word that implies all the health, joy, fun and new life that people experience when they invite Jesus to take over. Churches are equipped to nourish, grow and strengthen new

Let’s begin building a close working re- lationship with InterVarsity’s staff, student leaders and financial supporters. And let’s in- sist on growing evangelistic results in our cities. Around the U.S., evangelism leaders have closely followed the good outreach strategies of some of Wisconsin’s churches. Thousands of people have come to Jesus at each of those lo- cations. Now is the time for faithful churches statewide to call mission experts from larger churches to move to smaller, but growing areas where people have all but aban- doned Christianity.

Be ready with your wit- ness for Jesus Christ. Have a plan to introduce salvation to anyone lost in their sins. These are laws to live by as an evangelist. But if you are part of a Bible-believing church, you need to be ready with more than the gospel. Wisconsin

churchmen, we need to strategize our salvation efforts. We need to have a planned and proven set of operations for communicating Jesus to hundreds of people in our own city, and thousands more throughout the state who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior. If you are a regular reader of this evangelism column in Wis- consin Christian News, you will recall my December 2025 article spelling out how Wisconsin is one of the least evangelized states in the union. Only Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and the northwest states of Washington and Oregon are less evangelized than Wisconsin. We live along- side God’s beauty in our lakes,

As people are flocking to Pleas- ant Prairie for its jobs and schools, so they are racing to Bayfield for its natural beauty and adventure. Churches, now is the time to strategize on behalf of the many families who are mov- ing to Wisconsin. Our state is not only a place to fish, hunt and va- cation. Wisconsin has become a life destination for people coming from Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa and elsewhere. Churches, we must plan to offer newcomers the best in gospel sermons, Christian music and education programs that we can provide. Begin by asking who (new home buyers, business com-

meadows and waterfalls. But many Wisconsin citizens have abandoned traditional faith and church attendance. The middle years of this 21st century must now include a drive to bring the fear of God and the joy of knowing Jesus to more than 50% of Wisconsin’s nearly 6 million people. I am calling all faithful Wisconsin congrega- tions to take the strategic step of organizing their people, money and communication tools to reach more than half of unsaved people in Wisconsin’s cities, towns, universities and re- sort communities. Critics might insist that it is best to be ready with Christ’s answer to sin when one lost person comes our way. Certainly, we must be ready with the great gospel mes- sage for any person caught in sin. But at this point in modern history, we also need to “get ahead of the game” and develop the correct strategies that will reach the majority of Wis- consin’s people with the great news of salva- tion. “Why churches?” you ask. “What not chal- lenge Wisconsin’s Christian schools, seminar-

believers to become mature followers of Jesus, and evangelists themselves. 2) While churches are absent from some com- munities, most all Wisconsin cities, towns and rural areas are served by an existing congrega- tion that has an excellent meeting place, good biblical leadership and a history of gospel proclamation going back 50 to 150 years. Wis- consinites know what institutions such as First Assembly of Green Bay, First Baptist La Crosse, or Tabernacle Community of Milwaukee mean: by their names, locations, beliefs and history of mission. Our churches provide us with good bases to re-start mission in Wisconsin. 3) Wisconsin churches need the challenge of evangelizing and discovering the 40-80% of people in their communities whom they have never met! In one sense, our churches stand guilty of not taking Christ’s Great Commission seriously. They have ignored large segments of the populations where God has located them. And in another way, Wisconsin’s churches are now poised to re-invent their facilities, their

Traditionally, growth consultants have said that when a church grows by more than 11-13% annually, it risks losing its iden- tity. I agree with the numbers but disagree with the identity factor. Our churches need to risk losing their small and ineffective identity in order to become attractive to both newcomers and older residents who have resisted meeting God. As we grow in numbers, we need to grow closer to Jesus’ teaching of welcoming the many! Do not be afraid to reach everyone who is hearing the Spirit’s call to come to Jesus. Think closely about your church’s buildings, parking lots and money. You are probably richer in resources for growth than you realize! “Holding our own” has never been a good strat- egy. The fields are white unto harvest. The most critical question for local church strategists to ask is, “Do I really believe that my neighbors who have not yet said “yes” to Jesus are on their way to Hell? Make strategic plans in light of the only right answer to that ques- tion. The local church is a huge part of Christ’s invitation to salvation and abundant life. We have the people, the welcome, the human car- ing and most importantly – the Spiritual Truth. Let’s proclaim Jesus on Sundays, but also on every other day of the week. Evangelism for the lost, education for families, care for the hurting — our churches are the best hope that Wiscon- sin towns can offer. Make great use of the calendar. If you have not begun planning for fall, start now! Think short-term and be aware of the energy you bring to your town for September through De- cember. And then make Christmas a spectacu- lar series of outreach events for your neighbors. Take your strategic outreach plans into 2027 and beyond. Church leaders: How in love are you with present church staff? Are you willing to bring in new preachers, even new stewardship lead- ers to reach lost and dying souls? God’s people and their churches actually have good answers to offer seekers. Wisconsin’s mission agencies and para- church ministries share a big responsibility for preaching and teaching the gospel as well. So, You Want To ‘MAGA...’ (Continued from Page 3)

There are eight stages that all nations go through dur- ing their existence. This has proven to be true through- out history, and here’s how it goes: First, Bondage — People live under oppres- sion, instability, and poverty. Like the Israelite captives in Egypt, our an- cestors were suffering in bondage under crushing re- ligious oppression. Then comes Spiritual Faith and Courage, because hardship produces resilience, shared values, and determination. And just as the Lord freed the Israelites from Egypt, but certainly not without hardship, He also freed the American Pilgrims out of bondage through their faith and courage. Then comes Liberty. This is when the people win free- doms — spiritual, political, economic, and social. But Liberty deserves a little more attention here. 2 Corinthians 3:17 tells us, “...where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” Paul was telling the Corinthians that God’s Holy Spirit provides freedom from spiritual bondage; freedom from fear and condemnation and transformation of the inner person. Yes, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Those who view God as irrelevant, or claim to not even believe He exists, should pay special attention to this. So, I’ll say it again: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. The Spirit of the Lord was with those that God brought out of bondage to a new land, that would become the USA. But, the cycle continues. Liberty then produces Abundance, as freedom and productivity create wealth and prosperity. But if a na- tion forgets where that Lib- erty came from (the Spirit of the Lord), Complacency comes next, because suc- cess reduces urgency, disci- pline, civic responsibility and most importantly, rev- erence for God. The next step is Apathy. When people have abun- dance, luxury and ease, the citizens become disengaged from public life and institu- tions. They forget where they came from, how they got here, what their ances- tors endured, built and de- fended. They no longer care. A once-God-fearing people not only forget God, they often begin to despise Him,

preferring instead to be their own “gods.” The Spirit of the Lord departs. And with- out the people even realizing it, history is either forgotten or re-written, to facilitate the nefarious agendas of the en- emies within. This Apathy leads to De- pendence, with increasing reliance on the State, Elites, or Political “Leaders.” Now, they not only rely on gov- ernment for their suste- nance and support, they view those things as “enti- tlements.” And once a na- tion reaches this point, they quickly return again to Bondage. And so, the cycle comes “full circle.” Where do you see the United States in this cycle? We once had liberty, abun- dance, freedom, productiv- ity, wealth and prosperity. When did apathy begin to creep in? I’d argue that it began in 1962 when the Supreme Court outlawed prayer in public schools. And a year later, when they did away with Bible reading and reciting the Lord’s prayer. In 1964 and ‘65, Lyndon Johnson launched his “Great Society” and “War on Poverty” plans, creating Medicare and Medicaid, funding bills for so-called “education,” and various en- vironmental programs. This also led to government pro- grams like the Job Corps, Head Start, food assistance programs and a myriad of community action agencies. Of course, this led to de- pendency on Big Govern- ment, which has kept millions (especially the black voters he was target- ing) in our inner cities as virtual slaves for multiple generations. But that was only the start. Today, this depend- ence on government for basic needs has expanded to the point where 25% of our young people prefer So- cialism to Capitalism. And one in four Americans, across the board, now re- ceive some sort of govern- ment aid or welfare. Not only are they dependent, they’re expectant...they feel they’re entitled to their “ben- efits.” It used to be that a person might receive “bene- fits” as part of a job pack- age. They’d get their paycheck, and also some additional benefits for work well done: insurance, a re- tirement plan, vacation

time, bonuses. Now, those things are expected as “en- titlements” by those who don’t work, may have never worked and don’t know what work is. Compare today’s society to that of those who came be- fore us. This is not the na- tion our ancestors built. We escaped bondage, expe- rienced prosperity and lib- erty, built one nation under God, but have now returned to bondage, by our own choosing. The Spirit of the Lord has de- parted our land, and so there is no more liberty here. As I’ve stated before, throughout the history of the world, the average lifespan of a nation or em- pire is 250 years. For us — the US — that’s this year. Big celebrations are planned for the 4th of July. In Washington DC, they’re planning for the world’s biggest fireworks display. Trump is releasing com- memorative coins with his image on it to mark the event. Sadly, most Ameri- cans — especially our young people — don’t even know what we’re celebrat- ing. Yes, a lot of people love the of “Make America Great Again,” but they have no interest in putting in the work to do it, like our ancestors did. Today, we’re dependent and ex- pectant...we expect Trump to do it for us. Trouble is, he can’t. We’re no longer “one nation under God.” We’re now one of many na- tions under God’s judg- ment. Instead of pridefully celebrating, we should be mourning, in “sackcloth and ashes” for what we had, and what we lost. Or should I say, voluntarily gave away? There are many who will say that America’s greatest years are still ahead of us. They’re optimistic about our future. Even many church-goers expect a massive revival to occur, though they’re doing noth- ing at all to help make that happen. Meanwhile, people continue to expect politi- cians to fix it all. Friends, there’s no fixing it. America is beyond bankrupt, and not just financially. The Spirit of the Lord has de- parted, because of our complacency, apathy, lazi- ness and selfish entitle-

ment and pride.

The “free” copies you’ll find on the racks in lobbies of grocery stores, family restaurants, truck stops, bookstores, li- braries, hotels and other public places are our OUTREACH to those who oth- erwise would never get the truth of God’s Word or the truth of what’s re- ally going on in our world today.

For several years now, WCN has only been able to continue through the generous financial support of individuals — true Christ-followers who understand and support the ministry work we do. We are nearly 100% Reader Sup- ported now, yet of the thousands of copies we provide out in the public square, far fewer than 1% of those who pick a copy up every month ever send any type of support. This has now be- come unsustainable. Some have suggested we become an “online only” publication. But we hope you understand, if we were to do that, only those who are already Christians and who would go to our website pur- posely, would ever see it. This is why our print edition is VITAL — whereas

Every month, we distribute thousands of copies of Wisconsin Christian News free of charge, made available in public news racks. We also provide compli- mentary copies to jail inmates, shut- ins, and hospital patients. This is our ministry to those who are lost, hurting, confused and seeking the truth. We’ve had wonderful testimonies from people who have come to know the Lord for the first time, or returned to Him, after many years away, after finding and reading our newspaper in a public place. This is our outreach — and it truly is a ministry — our mission. But it costs a great deal of money to do this, and while we constantly receive requests for even MORE copies in these public areas, the costs to produce and distribute our printed newspaper con- tinue to rise every month.

Very likely, we reach more un- saved souls out in public with God’s Word and truth in a sin- gle month than the average church will reach in its entire existence. This is not “boast- ing,” but rather the simple truth. Thus, we must maintain our print edition . This work is more vital now than ever before. Especially in this age of dis-in- formation and mis-information, political “spin” and radical left- ist “journalism.” But if Wisconsin Christian News is to continue as a print publication, available by sub- scription to Christians, as well as those thousands of free copies we place in public to reach the lost, we NEED YOUR HELP today!
