WELCOME
40 Years of Expo This year is a milestone for Equip Exposition. Expo—one of the largest annual trade shows in the United States— marks its 40 th show this October, and we hope you’ll join us to celebrate. Since starting as a pavilion of outdoor power equipment attached to the Farm Show in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1984, Expo has evolved and grown alongside the industry into the premier international outdoor living and landscape equipment exposition for landscapers, dealers, hardscapers, and contractors from all 50 states and 49 countries. For four decades—and under a few different names—Expo has continued to provide attendees a one-stop shop for the latest and most advanced products, education, and networking you need to grow your business. Equip Expo has evolved into a unique, week-long experience for a range of interconnected businesses including outdoor power equipment, landscaping, hardscaping, tree care, design, lighting, irrigation, and more. Following the record-setting attendance and hotel bookings and sellout of exhibit space last year, Equip Exposition in 2023 will expand on its success by offering new, advanced education plus additional entertainment and events including a new arena concert, expansion into the West Wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC), and improved logistics and food options. Just as our industry is ever-evolving, so is the trade show that serves them. After 40 years, we’re just getting started.

We’re celebrating this year at Equip Exposition. Expo—one of the largest annual trade shows in the United States—marks its 40 th show this October. Since starting as a pavilion of outdoor power equipment attached to the Farm Show in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1984, the event has grown into the international outdoor living, landscape equipment exposition for landscapers, dealers, hardscapers, and contractors from all 50 states and 49 countries. The Expo experience our attendees have in Louisville each October is one they can’t get anywhere else. The show provides the industry a one-stop shop for the latest and most advanced products, education, and networking they need to grow their business. Some attendees at Expo might be unfamiliar with OPEI, the trade association that owns and manages Expo. We’re celebrating this year, too, marking our 70 th anniversary this summer at our annual member meeting. OPEI represents manufacturers and suppliers of power equipment, small engines, battery power systems, portable generators, utility and personal transport vehicles, and golf cars. Our members make the equipment you use or sell every day in your business, and ensure it’s safe and efficient. Our TurfMutt Foundation promotes the living landscape you help design, install, and maintain. And our trade show brings together the entire industry to see and try out the latest product innovations. In the 40 years since Expo began, the show has continued to invest in the city of Louisville. We opened a show office on Main Street last year, and our annual
event brings in more than $20 million each year to the city. And our TurfMutt Foundation has partnered with the Kentucky Humane Society to host Mulligan’s Mutt Madness for five years, helping 50 dogs find forever homes with show attendees. We’ve also sponsored TurfMutt Park at the KHS, giving their foster dogs a place to exercise while they await adoption. The TurfMutt Foundation promotes the benefits of the managed landscape. Throughout the California drought response in 2002, TurfMutt pushed education into schools nationwide, highlighting the vital environmental impact our living landscapes have. Thanks to partnerships with organizations like Discovery, Scholastic, the U.S. Green Building Council, and now CBS/Hearst Television, TurfMutt has shown more than 70 million teachers, students, and parents that nature starts at their back door. The industry has changed a lot since 1984, and the show has evolved right along with it. Every year, Expo provides new experiences and opportunities for attendees to see and try out the latest products in the industry. Equip Expo, TurfMutt, and OPEI are fully engaged in the industry— have been for decades, and will be for decades to come. We’re looking forward to the future, and to seeing you this fall in Louisville.
Jordan Steele (left) and John Steele (right), the father-son duo of Steele Blades Lawn/Landscaping & Pool Services, will be helping to build Mulligan’s Bark Park, a small, purposeful urban dog park near the Ohio Theatre Marquee in downtown Louisville. Watch the transformation on a special TurfMutt Foundation-sponsored episode of CBS’ Lucky Dog next season.

Equip Exposition Expands to West Wing
Show outsells and outgrows historic footprint and pushes into the last remaining indoor space at the KEC.
Due to high demand from exhibitors, especially those with limited booth space in other areas of the KEC, this additional space allows for new and waitlisted exhibitors to be at Expo, as well as existing exhibitors to expand their presence at the show. “Our usual footprint for indoor exhibit space is completely sold out,” says Kris Kiser, President of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), which owns and manages Equip Exposition. “And while the West Wing is different—it’s been used for a wide range of purposes—it does allow existing exhibitors to showcase more of their products, and in particular, has indoor demonstration areas. Taking space in the West Wing also allows new exhibitors to get into the show and ‘get in line’ for space that could become available in other areas of the KEC.” Last year, all available exhibitor spaces in the KEC and every inch of the available 30 acres in the Outdoor Demo Yard sold out; Expo expects the same situation for 2023. The historic West Wing of the KEC offers 170,000 square feet of additional indoor exhibit space and is the last remaining unused area at the KEC for Equip Expo. It is one of its original structures and is located west of Freedom Hall. Kiser adds, “The West Wing is ideal for indoor demonstration of battery

Third Eye Blind, Dylan Scott headline our first-ever arena show as Expo celebrates its 40 th anniversary.
Equip Expo has brought together a stellar entertainment lineup that takes over the entire city for the blockbuster trade show being held October 17–20 in Louisville, Kentucky. Third Eye Blind will headline a “thank you” concert at the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday, Oct. 19, for the event’s first-ever arena concert, and singer-songwriter Dylan Scott will open this incredible show thanking the many people who make Equip Exposition what it is. This special arena concert acknowledges the many significant friends and partners of Equip Expo who have welcomed the trade show to Louisville for 40 years, and promises to be a rocking great time for Equip Exposition attendees. Expo couldn’t have grown to this point without the support of thousands of people—from our attendees and exhibitors at the show to the bartenders and hotel staff throughout the city. They all make the “Expo experience” possible, and we want to say thank you with this concert. Registered attendees and exhibitors for Equip Exposition may attend all three nights of entertainment for free with their registration badges serving as tickets. This year, Equip Expo’s entertainment is spread across several well-known Louisville venues—the Kentucky Exposition Center, the Kentucky International Convention Center, the KFC Yum! Center, and Fourth Street Live!.
In addition to the concert at the KFC Yum! Center, entertainment during the four-day event will include: • House band The Crashers with a jamming Welcome Reception at the downtown Kentucky International Convention Center on Tuesday night, October 17. Hors d’oeuvres and other food will be provided, and there will be a cash bar for drinks.

Louisville—Equip Expo’s longtime home—is easy to get to no matter where you’re coming from, and a great place to spend time. And once you’re here, it’s easy to navigate. The airport is across the street from the trade show, and you don’t need to rent a car. The city is home to over 90 attractions, 17,000 hotel rooms, and 2,500 restaurants. Located on the banks of the Ohio River, Greater Louisville is easily accessible and within a day’s drive of nearly half of the nation’s population. The Louisville International Airport (SDF), only 7 minutes from downtown, handles nearly 100 flights per day and offers easy access to the Kentucky Exposition Center.
