Industrial park service plan Russell Township council has a detailed report of 50-plus pages from administration to review on the expansion of services for the Embrun Commercial Park. The report covers both existing and future servicing needs for the commercial park and includes a recommendation for an addition to the 2016 capital works budget to begin the services upgrade. The report also covers a list of financing options for industrial and commercial property owners already set up in the commercial park for connecting to the upgraded municipal services and also for future tenants of the park. – Gregg Chamberlain Fire department appointments Russell Township council had a housekeeping by-law to handle dealing with the two fire departments. Council approved By-law 2016-012 confirming/ reconfirming executive appointments for Russell Fire Chief Bruce Armstrong, Deputy Chief Darcy Provost, Captains Duane Bourguignon, Michel Sé- guin and Brian Murray, with Bourguignon as Fire Prevention Officer, and Adam Armstrong as As- sistant Fire Prevention Officer. Appointments were also confirmed/reconfirmed for Embrun Fire Chief Brian Duhamel, Deputy Fire Chief Luc Deschamps, Captains Daniel Aupry, Ian Courville, and Jacques Grégoire, Fire Prevention Officer Patrick Thibodeau, and Assistant Fire Prevention Officer Luc Servais. – Gregg Chamberlain Russell County OPP had their hands full during the first week of February dealing with calls about con artists at work. Police investigated several complaints about scamartists trying to con people into either giving them money or giving them even more valuable personal I.D. informa- tion that would assist with identity theft crimes in future. Most of the fraud attempts came through surprise phone calls during which con artists used various false identities to try and convince their targets to provide credit card numbers, banking records in- formation, and other personal information identification. Russell County OPP report that in most cases, the householders targeted by the con artists recognized the scam attempts and just hung up. One woman reported that she did provide her social insurance number (S.I.N.) information to a caller who identi- fied himself as a Canada Revenue Agency agent (CRA). The CRA does not phone or email or send letters to anyone asking for personal finan- cial details or S.I.N. information. The agency already has all that information in its data records fromwhen people file their income tax forms. The OPP urge residents to be wary and never give anyone any banking, credit card, or personal information to anyone over the phone or through email. Anyone who suspects they may be a victim of fraud should report the matter to the police and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at toll-free 1-888-495-8501 or www. antifraudcentre.ca.
