Premier album pour Mathieu Poirier
Le son folk semble chez lui comme une seconde nature et atteste de ses influences. Il a d’ailleurs un sens de l’autodérision plutôt aigu lorsqu’il s’agit de se décrire. La biographie sur son site Internet en témoigne. « Depuis la sortie de son album, Appartement A, Mathieu Poirier s’impose comme le plus connu des artistes inconnus du folk. À n’en pas douter, nous pouvons comparer l’impact social de l’artiste à celui de Dylan, des Beatles et des Doors au cours des années 60. Nous tenons pour preuves les nombreuses menaces et plaintes déposées par les voisins depuis le début de la tournée. » Et ce n’est qu’un extrait… Si le lancement est garant de l’accueil du grand public, l’album est promis à un bel avenir. Mathieu Poirier, a chaudement remercié ses fans via facebook au lendemain de la performance à laquelle participaient aussi les musiciens Jean-Pascal Carbonneau et Philippe Chagon. Unecollaborationquiestfaitepourdurer,estimed’ailleurs le chanteur. DeHawkesbury également, Cédrik Bertrand, qui signe le design de la pochette était pour sa part tout à fait emballé. « Cet album me touche personnellement. J’ai eu l’honneur de participer activement à plusieurs phases de la réalisation. L’artiste m’a inclus dans son univers, et ce fut tout un trip. »

Si Jean Leloup a mis Hawkesbury sur la carte, on pourra peut-être en dire autant du Pont Perley avec Mathieu Poirier. Le chanteur originaire de Hawkesbury vient de lancer son premier album : « Appartement A ». « C’est un album dans lequel j’ai mis beaucoup de cœur. C’est un album qu’on pourrait dire révolté, où j’aborde les choses qui me dérangent. » L’événement s’est tenu au Petit Medley à Montréal le 20 janvier dernier en présence d’un groupe enthousiaste. Certains fans de la région s’étaient déplacés pour encourager leur ami d’enfance. La salle était comble, ce qui n’est pas peu dire pour un artiste tentant d’émerger de la jungle culturelle montréalaise. Guitariste et chanteur, Mathieu Poirier n’hésite pas à donner dans la critique sociale. «Au premier abord ça peut sembler humoristique, mais au 2 e degré, c’est un albumsérieux et c’est cet aspect- là qui est le plus important. »

Il a par la suite fréquenté l’École nationale de la chanson de Granby et complété un baccalauréat en Sciences politique, deux types de formation qui se conjuguent parfaitement pour un chanteur engagé. « Ça aide à avoir des opinions et à être capable de les écrire. »

Vote de non confiance contre le maire Saywell

Le conseil municipal de Grenville-sur- la-Rouge a voté 4-2 lundi soir afin de censurer le maire John Saywell à la suite d’allégations qu’il a, entre autres, enfreint le code municipal du Québec et a abusé de sa position. La conseillère Diane Monette et les conseillers Alain Carrière, Noël F. Baril et Pierre Lessard ont appuyé le vote de non confiance tenu lors d’une assemblée spéciale. La conseillère Teresa Ogle- Foreman et le conseiller Daniel Gauthier ont voté contre. Le maire, qui n’a pas voté, a refusé de faire des commentaires, disant, « Je ne sais pas de quoi ils parlent » et que la résolution était fondée seulement sur des allégations. Selon la résolution, avec l’approbation du vote de non confiance, « le maire n’est plus autorisé à prendre des décisions seul au nom de la Municipalité de Grenville- sur-la-Rouge et qui ont pour effet d’affecter la Municipalité et ses citoyens » et « les promesses tenues par le maire ne soient pas la responsabilité du conseil de la Municipalité de Grenville-sur-la-Rouge ». Selon la résolution, les quatre membres ont appuyé le vote « dans l’intérêt de continuer à servir les citoyens avec les objectifs pour lesquels les membres du conseil ont été élus ». Par ailleurs, plusieurs des 40 personnes, rassemblées au Centre Paul-Bougie à Calumet pour la réunion, ont démontré leur appuipourlemaire.Descitoyensontexhorté les membres de travailler ensemble. Décès de Diane Roy
L’été dernier, l’immeuble situé au 923, rue Notre-Dame à Embrun, a été baptisé Édifice Diane Roy par les propriétaires, Bernard De Grâce et Kevin Encarnacao, en hommage à l’ancienne femme d’affaires dont les entreprises ont tour à tour eu pignon sur rue à cette adresse entre 2002 et 2011.
À l'éditeur, C’est avec tristesse que nous avons appris le décès d’une des grandes amies de L’écho d’un peuple, Diane Roy. À titre de fondatrice et de rédactrice en chef du journal La Nouvelle, Diane s’est toujours fait un devoir de suivre et de faire connaître l’évolution de notre projet d’un méga spectacle dans l’Est ontarien depuis ses tout débuts. À travers sa plume juste, perspicaceetgénéreuse,c’esttoutel’histoire de L’écho d’un peuple, de sa création jusqu’à son entracte depuis 2008, qui fut écrite pour la postérité par cette femme au regard vif et au grand cœur. Passionnée par les arts et par la francophonie, mais surtout amoureuse des gens de sa communauté régionale, Didi n’avait jamais de limites de temps ou d’heures lorsqu’il
s’agissait de couvrir les créations et les projets des gens de chez-nous. D’ailleurs, les comédiens bénévoles de L’écho d’un peupleluidoiventdemerveilleuxsouvenirs et de nombreux clichés car elle était toujours fidèle au rendez-vous comme photographe bénévole pour nos sessions de photos qui duraient souvent jusqu’à minuit. Nous trouvons consolation à l’idée que Diane a maintenant fini de souffrir de son terrible cancer et qu’elle peut enfin se reposer. Ses funérailles auront lieu le samedi 4 février à 11 h en l’église St-Jacques d’Embrun. Suivra une rencontre à la salle des Chevaliers de Colomb pour la parenté et les amis. Merci pour tout Diane !
