Sleeping in dentures doubles risk of pneumonia in elderly, study says January 26, 2016 | FoxNews.com Published October 08, 2014 A new study on oral health and hygiene has found that elderly patients who wear dentures during sleep are at a higher risk for developing pneumonia than those who removed them. The study, published in the Journal of Dental Research, focused on a group of more than 500 adults over the age of 85.The volunteers were screened for oral health status and hygiene as well as medical issues, and reexamined each year until first hospitalization or death from pneumonia, according to a news release. period, researchers recorded 48 deaths and hospitalizations associated with pneumonia, and found that among the 453 denture wearers, 186 who did not remove them before sleep were at a 2.3-fold higher risk for pneumonia than those who did. Based on historical averages, the plan forecasts the city will need to spend just under $6.5 million annually on its roads. The 2022 city budget, however, allocates $6 million to the roads, representing nearly a $500,000 funding gap. One option considered is increasing the one per cent tax levy allocated to roads along with other sources of funding. The city is set to present a revised 10-year plan for paved roads later this year. By July 2024 the municipality is also to provide a more comprehensive asset management plan to include buildings, fleet vehicles, and equipment in addition to transportation, wastewater, stormwater and water services.

An asset management plan report pres- ented to Clarence-Rockland city council paints an unfavourable picture of funding gaps impacting the quality of the city’s core services. The Asset Management Plan (AMP) is an accounting of the city’s core services, such as water, stormwater management, sewage and transportation infrastructure. The AMP analyzes investments made and funding required for upkeep of the related infrastructure and community satisfaction with the delivery of those core services over the next two decades. Overall, Clarence-Rockland’s core assets are estimated to be midway through their lifecycle. However, according to the AMP, approximately one quarter of city assets is “near or beyond its end of life.” On average, the condition of the city’s infrastructure is considered fair, which means there are signs of deterioration and some deficiencies that require attention. “I think it’s a wakeup call for everyone,” said Councilor André J. The UCDSB’s trade training initiative visited Rockland District High School. The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) began an initiative to bring hands- on learning to Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) students across the region, and from June 6 to 10 the initiative visited Rockland District High School. Thirty-two students attended each workshop per day, spending two and a half hours learning car- pentry, welding, electrical, fitness, nutrition, and culinary science from an instructor from St. Lawrence College. “It’s great that we’re reaching our SHSM students in this way this week,” said Ashley Grant, UCDSB Student Success Learning Partner and co-lead on the initiative. “The two SHSMs offered at RDHS – Agriculture and )FBMUIBOE8FMMOFTTmBSFEJSFDUMZBMJHOFE with the six workshops offered. Mais ajoute-t-il, la tempête a entraîné «l’effondrement de milliers d’arbres» dans tous les secteurs de la municipalité, bloquant des routes, faisant tomber des lignes électriques et endommageant des dizaines de maisons, d’entreprises et de fermes.

Le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet de- mande au gouvernement provincial un financement d’aide d’urgence pour aider aux opérations de nettoyage à la suite de la tempête de mai. Lors de son assemblée du 7 juin, le conseil municipal a pris connaissance d’un rapport du directeur général Michel Potvin sur l’impact de la tempête qui a traversé l’est de l’Ontario et l’ouest du Québec. Le conseil approuve la recommandation de M. Potvin selon laquelle le canton devrait recevoir une aide financière de la province en vertu de la Loi sur la protection civile et la gestion des situations d’urgence (LPCGSU). M. Potvin a déclaré au conseil que le canton devrait être admissible à une aide en vertu de cette loi «du fait que nous avons visité le canton avec des représentants du ministère» après la tempête. Il a noté dans son rapport «deux impacts majeurs» de la tempête sur le canton en termes de coût financier pour les travaux de nettoyage en cours et l’effet sur le calendrier des travaux publics de la municipalité. Les équipes de travaux publics se sont concentrées sur les travaux de nettoyage, tant pendant qu’après la tempête. Tant le coût du nettoyage que la reprogrammation des priorités des équipes de travail ont affecté le plan budgétaire initial des travaux publics pour 2022. Dans son rapport, M. Potvin note que le canton a eu la chance de n’avoir à déplorer aucun décès parmi ses résidents à cause
Après la tempête, le canton a apporté une aide d’urgence immédiate aux citoyens qui avaient besoin d’un abri ou d’une aide pour ouvrir les routes bloquées et autres problèmes. L’accent mis sur le nettoyage se poursuit, le canton offrant son aide aux résidents pour l’élimination des branches, souches et autres débris laissés par la tempête. Le canton et les résidents ont également bénéficié, au début du mois de juin, des efforts des bénévoles de l’équipe Rubicon pour nettoyer et réparer certains des dégâts causés par la tempête. M. Potvin indique que le personnel tra- vaillait à l’élaboration d’un résumé financier des dommages causés par la tempête au canton. Jusqu’à présent, le personnel a confirmé que 25 installations municipales ont été endommagées pendant la tempête. Le rapport final sur l’impact financier fera partie de la demande d’aide financière du canton dans le cadre du programme &.$1.1PUWJOBGBJUSFNBSRVFSRVFMF canton pourrait également être admissible à d’autres formes de soutien provincial ou fédéral en cas de catastrophe. Un autre ange est arrivé au paradis puisque Jeanne Ménard (née Gareau) a quitté cette terre, le 29 mai 2022, à l’Hôpital général de Hawkesbury. Après un beau parcours de vie de 106 ans et 10 mois, à aimer et servir sa famille avec amour, elle est enfin réunie avec son défunt époux Gaëtan Ménard (en 1993) avec qui elle a vécu 58 années. Mère bien-aimée de Jacqueline Hillier (feu Ross), Micheline Robitaille (feu Jean-Charles), Monique Chatelain, André (Suzanne Hupé), Jacques, Roch et Michel; elle est prédécédée par son époux Gaëtan (1993) et un fils Rémi en 2021 (feu Rachel Langlois). Elle laisse également 22 petits-enfants, 32 arrière-petits- enfants et plusieurs cinquièmes générations ainsi que des neveux, nièces des familles Ménard et Gareau et des amis. Elle était la fille de feu Jacques Gareau et de feu Auxilie Cardinal et est prédécédée par ses quatre frères et cinq sœurs ainsi que beaux-frères et belles- sœurs, neveux et nièces des deux familles. Un service religieux en présence des cendres aura lieu le samedi 25 juin 2022 à 13 h, en l’église Sacré-Cœur de Bourget (Ontario). La famille recevra les condoléances à compter de midi. Vos marques de sympathie peuvent se traduire par un don à la Société Alzheimer de l’Ontario. It is with great sadness that the family of Louise Bond announces her passing. Louise is survived by her nieces and nephews, Michel Bond, Guy Bond, Jo-Anne Finn (Bond), Denis Sauvé, Pat Dickinson (Sauvé), Lynne Morrow (Sauvé) and Pete Sauvé. Predeceased by her parents, Hubert and Dorina Bond; siblings, John Bond and Simone Sauvé (Bond). Louise lived in Rockland for many years until moving to New Liskeard in 2010. A funeral mass will take place on July 04, at 11 am, at paroisse Saint-Grégoire-de- Nazianze, in Buckingham, Quebec. Interment will follow at Saint-Grégoire-de-Nazianze cemetery, in Buckingham, Quebec.
