PUBLISHER’S note
ere is an old saying that a home is a reection of the people who live there. I think it’s also a reection of the lives we hope to lead. Some people dream of a music room where jazz lls the evening. Others picture a quiet reading nook, a beautifully organized kitchen, a backyard garden, or a porch where sunsets become part of the daily routine. Whatever your version looks like, it deserves a little attention.
I hope these pages spark a few ideas of your own. Better yet, I hope they remind you that making a home extraordinary doesn’t always require starting over. Sometimes it begins with a single room, a favorite chair, or simply deciding to enjoy the one you’ve already created.

America’s Most Beautiful Historic Coastal Towns
A long the Eastern Seaboard, America’s most beautiful historic coastal towns oer graceful travel with weathered brick streets, grand homes and balmy ocean breezes. For travelers who prefer architecture over amusement parks, garden gates over crowded boardwalks, and restaurants with linen napkins over fried baskets by the pier, these destinations oer history with a saltwater view. Charleston, South Carolina remains one of the great jewels of the coast, with pastel houses, wrought iron balconies, gas lanterns, and secret gardens that seem determined to make every sidewalk look editorial. A walk through the historic district feels like moving through a carefully preserved watercolor, though Charleston is far from frozen in the past. Its restaurants, boutique hotels, galleries, and design shops give the city a modern Southern polish that keeps it fresh. Mornings are made for strolling e Battery, aernoons for peeking through garden gates, and evenings for a reservation somewhere that takes shrimp, grits, and candlelight very seriously. One of my favorites, Savannah, Georgia has a soer, moodier beauty. Live oaks stretch over the squares like grand chandeliers, Spanish moss dris from the branches, and the city’s historic homes seem to hold every scandal, romance, and ghost story ever whispered below the Mason-

Dixon line. Savannah invites wandering more than planning. One square leads to another, one shaded bench leads to a café, and one cobblestone street somehow leads to dinner reservations you didn’t know you needed. e city’s charm is not polished to perfection, which is exactly why it works. Savannah feels storied, theatrical, and slightly mischievous in the best possible way. Farther south, St. Augustine, Florida carries the distinction of being the nation’s oldest city, and it wears its age beautifully. Coquina walls, narrow lanes, red tile roofs, and the imposing Castillo de San Marcos give the city a European quality that feels unexpected on the Florida coast. ere is plenty of sunshine, of course, but St. Augustine’s appeal is rooted in texture: old stone,

lantern light, weathered courtyards, and the grand inuence of Henry Flagler’s Gilded Age vision. It is a destination that pairs well with a long lunch, a walk along the bay front, and a hotel lobby with marble columns and excellent air conditioning, because Florida history is best enjoyed without suering for it. Newport, Rhode Island brings coastal glamour to a new level. Here, the Atlantic crashes below cliside paths while America’s grandest summer “cottages” sit above the water with the restraint of people who considered ballrooms and servants’ quarters a casual weekend necessity. e Cli Walk remains one of the most beautiful strolls in New England, with ocean views on one side and Gilded Age ambition on the other. Newport also understands leisure beautifully. Sailing, seafood, hydrangeas, polished inns, and harbor sunsets make it a destination that still feels built for summer society, even if today’s dress code is more linen than tiara. Cape May, New Jersey may be the most charming surprise on the list. Its Victorian homes, painted in cheerful colors and trimmed with gingerbread detail, give the town a storybook quality without losing its seaside ease. Wide beaches, porch-front inns, beach cruisers, and glowing sunsets create a rhythm that feels delightfully unhurried. Cape May has the rare ability to be elegant without becoming precious. It is historic, photogenic, and relaxed enough to remind visitors that a great coastal escape does not need to announce itself loudly. Nantucket, Massachusetts, perhaps the most photographed fantasy of East Coast summer. Cobblestone streets, gray-shingled cottages, climbing roses, weathered fences, bicycles, sailboats, and hydrangeas in full bloom have made the island an enduring symbol of coastal renement. Yet Nantucket’s beauty comes from restraint. Nothing feels overdone. e palette is so, the architecture is disciplined, and the island seems to understand that true luxury oen whispers. Days here unfold between beaches, bookshops, harbor lunches, and evening walks past houses that look impossibly composed. I’ve always believed the best destinations are the ones that make you slow your pace without even realizing it. ese historic coastal towns do exactly that. Every one has its own character, its own history, and its own traditions, yet they all share the same appreciation for beautiful architecture, welcoming streets, remarkable restaurants, and life by the water. If your next vacation leaves room for wandering, good conversation, and discovering places that have gracefully stood the test of time, you may nd yourself planning a return visit before you’ve even unpacked. Loggerhead Marinelife Center
A Second Chance for Turtles
LOC INTER STO
“The applause isn’t for the turtle alone. It’s for every person who helped it find its way home.”
A prehistoric giant welcomes visitors inside Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
A visit to Loggerhead Marinelife Center reminds us that Florida’s coast is home to far more than beautiful beaches. Years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a sea turtle release at Juno Beach, and I can still picture every detail as clearly as if it happened last weekend. e Atlantic was just beginning to wake as streaks of lavender, peach, and so gold stretched across the morning sky. Gentle waves rolled onto the sand with the same steady rhythm they’ve kept for centuries, while wisps of clouds dried lazily overhead. Volunteers moved quietly between equipment, marine biologists chatted soly near the shoreline, and a small crowd gathered with cameras tucked beneath their arms, all waiting for another turtle’s journey to begin. ere was an unmistakable feeling that everyone understood they were witnessing something special. Near the water’s edge sat a large transport carrier. Inside was a patient that had spent months recovering from injuries severe enough to keep it from surviving in the wild. Boat strikes, discarded shing line, plastic debris mistaken for food, infections, and illness are all
common reasons turtles arrive at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Some remain under veterinary care for weeks. Others require many months of rehabilitation before they’re healthy enough to return to the Atlantic. When the carrier door was carefully opened, the turtle hesitated for only a moment before instinct took over. With deliberate strokes of its powerful ippers, it began crossing the sand toward the surf. A wave washed gently across the turtle’s shell. Another followed close behind. With one nal push, it slipped beneath the water and disappeared into the Atlantic exactly where it belonged. Watching a rehabilitated sea turtle return home is a reminder that countless people devoted months of work to give one animal another chance. Veterinarians, researchers, volunteers, donors, and conservationists all played a role in that brief walk across the sand. What lasts only a few minutes on the beach oen represents hundreds of hours behind the scenes.

Part hospital, part research institution, part educational center, it has rescued and rehabilitated thousands of sea turtles while introducing generations of visitors to the extraordinary wildlife living just oshore. More than 300,000 people visit each year, yet the center never feels like a major tourist attraction. Instead, it feels personal. Every exhibit, every rehabilitation tank, and every conversation with a sta member reinforces the same message: these animals are worth protecting. One of my favorite parts of the visit was spending time at the Sea Turtle Hospital. Standing beside the rehabilitation tanks, it’s impossible not to become invested in the patients. Every turtle has a name, a story, and a detailed explanation of why it is there. One may be recovering from a propeller strike that fractured its shell. Another is slowly regaining strength aer becoming entangled in shing line. Others are being treated for infections or buoyancy disorders caused by swallowing plastics oating in the ocean.

admitted turtles undergo blood work, X rays, diagnostic imaging, and comprehensive examinations before individualized treatment plans are developed. Some patients require surgery. Others spend months building strength in specially designed rehabilitation pools while veterinarians and animal care teams monitor every stage of recovery. Every decision is made with one objective in mind: returning each turtle to the ocean healthy enough to survive on its own. Walking through the hospital, I stopped at every tank, quietly rooting for turtles I’d only just met. It’s amazing how quickly a name on an informational sign transforms an injured animal into someone you’re genuinely hoping to see back in the Atlantic. Visitors oen gather around the tanks waiting for feeding time or hoping to catch a glimpse of veterinarians conducting health assessments. ose unscripted moments become some of the most memorable parts of the experience because you’re witnessing conservation as it happens, not reading about it behind a pane of glass. Children seem especially captivated by everything they discover here. ey press against the railings watching recovering turtles glide eortlessly through the water, race from one exhibit to the next to nd colorful tropical sh, and stand mesmerized as graceful jellysh pulse through soly illuminated displays. Interactive exhibits invite curious hands to explore marine ecosystems in ways that feel more like play than learning. Before long, questions begin ying. Why do turtles return to the same beaches? How do hatchlings know where the ocean is? What happens when they eat plastic? By the end of the visit, many young guests leave talking
about becoming marine biologists or helping protect sea turtles themselves. Few classrooms can inspire that kind of excitement.
Every summer, while beach-goers are enjoying sunrise walks along Juno Beach, an entirely dierent story is unfolding beneath the sand. Hundreds of carefully hidden nests quietly incubate just beyond the tide line. Female loggerheads, green turtles, and Leatherbacks emerged under the cover of darkness weeks earlier, digging precise chambers before covering their eggs and disappearing back into the Atlantic. Within those carefully protected nests, dozens, sometimes more than one hundred hatchlings develop in complete darkness. en, usually under the cover of night when the sand has cooled and predators are less active, they emerge together in a remarkable burst of energy. Each tiny turtle, no larger than the palm of your hand, begins the same determined crawl toward the Atlantic, guided by the moonlight and the natural glow reecting across the water. eir journey may cover only a few dozen yards, but it marks the beginning of an incredible migration that can span thousands of miles over several decades. Watching hatchlings scramble toward the surf is enough to leave even seasoned wildlife enthusiasts speechless. ey appear impossibly small against the vastness of the beach, yet each one moves with unmistakable purpose. Sadly, only a fraction of hatchlings will survive long enough to return to these same beaches as nesting adults, making every protected nest and every successful release all the more signicant. Each morning during nesting season, teams of researchers and volunteers walk the beaches of Juno at rst light, searching for fresh tracks le behind by female sea turtles that visited overnight. An experienced eye can distinguish the broad sweep of a loggerhead from the more symmetrical trail of a green turtle or the enormous tracks le by a Leatherback. Once a nest is located, it is carefully documented with remarkable precision. Researchers record the species, date, exact location, and a wealth of additional information that contributes to decades of scientic data used to monitor nesting populations and long term conservation trends. Many nests are marked with protective stakes and identication signs that beachgoers have likely noticed during morning walks. ose simple markers are far more important than they appear. ey protect fragile nests from accidental disturbance while allowing scientists to monitor their progress throughout the incubation period. In areas where raccoons, foxes, or armadillos present a threat, specially designed protective screens may be
placed over the nests. ese barriers keep predators from digging into the sand while still allowing hatchlings to emerge naturally when the time comes. Nature, of course, doesn’t always cooperate. Strong tides, tropical storms, beach erosion, and ooding constantly challenge even the best conservation eorts. Researchers routinely inspect each nest, documenting changing conditions and, aer hatchlings have emerged, oen perform nest inventories to determine hatching success rates. seeds that may last a lifetime. Summer camps, junior marine biologist programs, veterinary workshops, guided tours, and school eld trips encourage children to look beyond the beach itself and discover the complex ecosystem thriving just oshore. Judging by the excitement I witnessed, quite a few future marine scientists probably begin their journey right here in Juno Beach. Perhaps that’s Loggerhead’s greatest accomplishment. Visitors certainly arrive hoping to see sea turtles, but most leave with something much more valuable. ey gain a clearer understanding of how everyday choices can directly aect the health of our oceans. Something as simple as properly disposing of shing line, reducing single use plastics, lling in holes before leaving the beach, removing chairs and umbrellas at the end of the day, respecting marked nests, or keeping beachfront lighting turtle friendly all contribute to giving these remarkable animals a better chance at survival. For those looking to become even more involved, the opportunities are plentiful. Volunteers assist with educational programs, beach cleanups, special events, and countless behind the scenes eorts that keep the center operating. Donations support everything from advanced veterinary care and rehabilitation equipment to scientic research and public education. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps ensure that the next injured turtle has the same opportunity to recover and return home. As much as I enjoyed the exhibits, the hospital, and the educational programs, I kept nding myself thinking back to that quiet stretch of beach where a sea turtle disappeared beneath the waves. It’s easy to become distracted by our busy schedules, crowded highways, and endless stream of headlines. en a morning like this reminds you that another world has been quietly unfolding along Florida’s coastline all along.

Ask Dr. Wy… Richard Wyderski, MD, FACP Dr. Wy, why is my doctor sending me to get radiation treatments for my knee arthritis? This sounds like a scam! Most all of us are familiar with the therapeutic use of radiation for cancer treatment that has can be used supercially for skin cancers and is precise enough to target deep brain tumors. We’ve come a long way since 1895 from just being able to make images of bones with x-rays. Low dose radiation treatments for osteoarthritis of the knee have been used for many years in Europe, but well-conducted studies were lacking until recently. A multicenter trial published in 2025 randomly assigned 114 patients to either very low dose radiation or fake treatments. No one knew who was getting which treatment, and the only pain medication anyone could take was acetaminophen. Patients were asked about pain level, function, and their satisfaction four months after everyone had undergone 6 treatments. 70% of patients undergoing radiation met response criteria while only 42% of the sham group did. That’s a big difference, but it does show how much a placebo can help with pain. Radiation works by suppressing immune cells and inammatory proteins in the joint, but it’s not meant for severe bone-on-bone arthritis. A lot of questions remain about whether radiation should be combined with other treatments or used by itself to get the best response and long-term outcome, but it’s a start and may be able to help people avoid eventually needing a knee replacement. In the meantime, don’t forget that weight loss and physical therapy work really well, too! Have a question for Dr. Wy? Please submit it to info@wyderskihealth.com

A Sparkling Lemon Basil Spritz belongs right alongside it. Fresh basil and bright citrus mirror the avors of the tart without stealing the spotlight, making the entire meal feel light enough for lunch on the patio or an easy supper shared outside while there’s still daylight.
Spring Garden Tart
Serves: 6 to 8
INGREDIENTS
• 1 sheet frozen pu pastry, thawed • 8 ounces goat cheese, soened • 2 tablespoons heavy cream • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice • 1 teaspoon honey • Salt and freshly ground black pepper • 8 to 10 asparagus spears, trimmed • 1 small zucchini, shaved into ribbons • 1 cup heirloom cherry tomatoes, halved • 1 small shallot, thinly sliced • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese • 1 egg, beaten • Edible owers and microgreens, optional
DRIN RECI
E very year I tell myself I’m going to grow fewer herbs, and every year I end up with basil that threatens to take over the garden. I can’t help myself. Fresh herbs nd their way into almost everything I cook, from homemade vinaigrettes to pasta dishes and pitchers of lemonade when friends come by. Once the basil begins growing, I usually head outside with a pair of garden shears before I even decide what’s for dinner. is recipe came together aer one of my Saturday trips to the farmers market. I came home with asparagus, zucchini, and a basket of heirloom tomatoes that looked too beautiful to tuck away in the refrigerator. Add a package of pu pastry, a log of creamy goat cheese, and a handful of herbs clipped from the garden, and dinner practically wrote itself. e vegetables roast until they’re sweet and tender, the pastry bakes into crisp, buttery layers, and the goat cheese melts into every corner. It’s colorful, uncomplicated, and looks as though it came from a neighborhood café with white tablecloths and fresh owers on every table.
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Unfold the pu pastry and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Using the tip of a knife, lightly score a one inch border around the pastry, taking care not to cut all the way through. Prick the center several times with a fork.

In a medium bowl, stir together the goat cheese, heavy cream, lemon zest, lemon juice, honey, salt, and pepper until smooth. Spread the goat cheese mixture over the center of the pastry, leaving the border uncovered. Arrange the asparagus, zucchini ribbons, tomatoes, and shallots over the cheese. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with the thyme, and nish with the Parmesan. Brush the pastry border with the beaten egg. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until the pastry is pued and deeply golden. Remove from the oven and scatter the chopped basil over the vegetables. Garnish with edible owers and microgreens, if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature. continued

Aer a warm slice of tart, I almost always reach for something crisp and refreshing to balance the meal. is salad comes together in just a few minutes and lets the produce do all the work. Tender butter lettuce, peppery arugula, sweet citrus, and crunchy watermelon radishes are lightly dressed with a Champagne vinaigrette that complements the goat cheese and fresh herbs without competing for attention. It’s colorful, fresh from the garden, and a beautiful addition to any spring table.
DRIN RECI
Butter Lettuce & Citrus Salad
& Champagne Vinaigrette
Combine one head of torn butter lettuce with two generous handfuls of baby arugula in a large wooden bowl. Add two Cara Cara oranges, peeled and cut into bite sized segments, one English cucumber shaved into ribbons with a vegetable peeler, four or ve very thinly sliced watermelon radishes, one third cup toasted pistachios, and a handful of fresh chive blossoms. For the Champagne Vinaigrette, whisk together ¼ cup Champagne vinegar, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 small minced shallot, ½ teaspoon kosher salt, and several turns of freshly ground black pepper. Slowly drizzle in ¾ cup extra virgin olive oil while whisking until the dressing becomes smooth and lightly emulsied. Stir in one tablespoon of nely chopped fresh chives.
Drizzle just enough vinaigrette over the salad to lightly coat the greens, then toss gently with your hands or salad servers until everything is evenly dressed. Finish with an extra sprinkle of pistachios and a few more chive blossoms just before serving.
