Income-related bursaries are also available, together with funding towards studying in another country if chosen as part of a degree programme. Professor Alan Hawkes, Hawkes Centre for Empirical Finance The department is home to the world-renowned Professor Alan Hawkes whose exciting point process became famous under the title of ‘Hawkes processes’. In the 1970s Professor Alan Hawkes developed a series of statistical and mathematical processes now known as the ‘Hawkes Processes’ which are used widely by a number of disciplines especially in the area of finance. Some police forces today also use the Hawkes Processes to predict where crimes are likely to occur.
