This course examines the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) on student behavior, education, relationships, health, and future success in life. Participants will gain a better understanding of how adverse experiences such as abuse, neglect, foster care, parental incarceration, and poverty affect learning. Participants will learn how to support the unique needs of students with adverse childhood experiences and increase their repertoire of skills to improve student resilience and academic outcomes.

Intended Audience

Special education teachers, general education teachers, counselors, school psychologists, site administrators, paraprofessionals, and support staff.

Working with Behaviors through a Trauma-Informed Lens BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS, SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SUPPORTS

This course will assist educators with developing a trauma-informed lens, to help work with students with challenging behaviors. Participants will learn how to identify function of behavior, the principles of function-focused intervention and receive strategies to respond to the needs of children who need the most love, but ask for it in the most unloving of ways.

Intended Audience

Paraprofessionals, general and special education teachers, site administrators, and district administrators.
