According to the National Threat Assessment Center, most individuals who are planning to harm themselves or others tell at least 1 person, and in approximately 67% of the cases, the individual tells more than one person. The people they tell are most often siblings and peers. This is the reason Know the Signs: Say Something was created and teaches youth to recognize threats and warning signs of someone at risk of hurting themselves or others and to “say something” to a trusted adult to get help. Workshop participants will be trained to implement the school- wide Know the Signs: Say Something program and be provided with engaging and developmentally appropriate K-12 activities to kick off a school-wide Know the Signs week event. The training and lesson plans for the week’s activities are provided at no cost to LEAs or schools and align with Transformative SEL, CASEL Competencies and Social Justice Standards.
