The course will outline the major difference between self-harming behaviors and suicide. Participants will learn how to identify warning signs of both and how to effectively responds. Discussion regarding the impact of social media and how suicide and self-harm are portrayed in the media will be covered. Participants will learn what questions to ask someone who is self-harming and/or showing signs of suicidal behavior.

Social skills for secondary students focus on enhancing communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence to succeed in both social and academic settings. Key skills include active listening, conflict resolution, teamwork, empathy, and adaptability, helping students navigate relationships, interpret social cues, and foster inclusivity. Teachers, counselors, parents, and special education professionals all play vital roles in supporting students’ social development. Developing these skills fosters confidence and resilience, preparing students for future personal, academic, and professional interactions.
