An Open Letter to Our Community At Community Hospice & Palliative Care, every year brings new opportunities to fulfill our mission of providing compassionate care, comfort, and support to patients and families throughout our community. As we reflect on the past year, we are grateful for the generosity, dedication, and trust that make this work possible.
veteran care initiatives, grief counseling and bereavement services, Camp Healing Powers for children coping with loss, pet therapy and Pet Peace of Mind® programs, and charity hospice care for patients regardless of their ability to pay. These programs reflect our commitment to caring for the whole person and ensuring that compassionate support remains accessible to everyone who needs it, regardless of circumstance. The impact of philanthropy extends far beyond any single project. Across our organization, dedicated clinicians, staff, volunteers, and supporters worked tirelessly to ensure that patients and families received the exceptional care they deserve. Together, we expanded services, strengthened partnerships, and advanced innovative approaches to hospice and palliative care, enhancing the quality of life for those we are privileged to serve. As we look ahead, we do so with optimism and purpose. The progress made this year strengthens our ability to meet the growing needs of our community and reinforces our commitment to providing care that honors every life and every family we serve. Whether supporting transformative initiatives like the Dorion Family Pediatric Center or sustaining programs that provide comfort, healing, and hope every day, philanthropy remains at the heart of our mission. Thank you for standing with us on this journey. Your generosity fuels our mission and makes milestones like the Dorion Family Pediatric Center — and countless acts of compassionate care throughout our community — possible. Together, we are building a future where expert, compassionate care is available to all who need it.
Among this year’s most significant milestones was the groundbreaking of the Dorion Family Pediatric Center, a transformational step forward in our commitment to serving children with serious illnesses and their families. This moment represented years of planning, partnership, and community support coming together around a shared vision: creating a dedicated space where children can receive specialized care in an environment designed specifically for their unique needs. The groundbreaking was more than the start of construction — it was the beginning of a new chapter for pediatric care in our region. Made possible through the extraordinary generosity of donors, community leaders, and advocates, the Dorion Family Pediatric Center will expand access to comprehensive pediatric hospice and palliative care services while providing comfort, connection, and support for families facing some of life’s most challenging circumstances. As construction progresses, we look forward to welcoming children and families to the Dorion Family Pediatric Center when it opens in 2026. This transformational facility will strengthen our ability to deliver specialized pediatric care while creating a compassionate, family-centered environment designed to meet the unique needs of every child and family we serve. The excitement surrounding this project reflects our community’s belief that every child deserves expert care delivered with dignity, comfort, and love. While the Dorion Family Pediatric Center campaign represented a historic investment in the future of pediatric care, The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care also continued its vital work of supporting programs and services that rely on philanthropic funding each year. Through the generosity of our donors, we provided critical support for

A New Home for Pediatric Care
This new center strengthens and expands Community PēdsCare ® . It creates a dedicated space designed specifically for children living with serious and complex illnesses and for the families who care for them every day. For years, much of our pediatric care has taken place in patients’ homes and hospitals. While that type of care will continue, families also shared that they wanted a place to gather. A place where children could connect with others facing similar challenges. A place where siblings could feel included. A place where parents could talk with someone In January 2025, The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care announced that The Dorion Family Pediatric Center would soon become a reality, something families have long hoped for.
who truly understands. The Dorion Family Pediatric Center will provide that space.
The center brings therapies, caregiver support, spiritual care, and psychosocial services together under one roof. It will host regular activities and events that give children opportunities to build friendships and simply be kids. Caregivers will have access to education, resources, and support programs that help them navigate day-to-day life. On-site activities will also offer parents and guardians short breaks, knowing their child is in a safe and supportive environment.
2
This centralized location also allows our clinical team to spend less time driving and more time caring for families. Last year alone, our team spent countless hours traveling throughout the region. With the new center, that time can be redirected to direct care and meaningful connections. The Dorion Family Pediatric Center is named in honor of the Dorion family, longtime supporters and advocates of compassionate care. Their leadership helped shape our organization in its early years, and their generosity has once again moved our mission forward.
Their gift also inspired others. Community philanthropists have stepped forward to sponsor and name individual rooms throughout the center. From therapy spaces to family gathering areas, these sponsored rooms reflect the shared belief that children facing serious illness deserve thoughtful, supportive environments. Each named space tells a story of generosity and commitment to families in our community. Most importantly, this center represents community. It represents families walking alongside one another. It represents care that looks beyond a diagnosis and focuses on the whole child and the whole family. The Dorion Family Pediatric Center is more than a building. It is a place where children can gather, families can find support, and no one must navigate this journey alone.

At 104 years old, Anita Morris still carries herself with quiet strength and dignity. A U.S. Coast Guard veteran receiving care with Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Anita recently experienced a moment that took her by surprise. Fellow veterans gathered to honor her with a pinning ceremony, a gesture of recognition that left her smiling in disbelief. Born to Italian immigrants and raised in Jacksonville, Anita enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 during World War II. She served on the home front, guarding ports and broadcasting public updates over the radio, contributing to the nation’s wartime efforts from right here in Northeast Florida. It was during her service that she met her husband. The two married in 1945, later building a life together while she continued serving her community through work with the USO and raising their two children.

Life brought both joy and profound loss. After Anita lost her husband and son just a year apart, her daughter, Melody, stepped into the role of caregiver, surrounding her mother with love and support. Today, Melody says that simple moments of connection bring Anita the greatest happiness, whether hearing someone say “thank you for your service” or reading heartfelt letters sent through Community Hospice’s Mail Call program.
Registered nurse case manager Anne Marie Jordan describes how veteran pinning ceremonies and the Mail Call program create powerful opportunities for connection, reminding patients that their service and sacrifices are remembered. Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s commitment to honoring veterans is reflected through its participation in the national We Honor Veterans initiative. Through specialized clinical care, veteran-to-veteran connections, symbolic recognition ceremonies, and partnerships with community leaders and students, the organization strives to ensure that those who served our country receive care rooted in respect, gratitude, and compassion. For Anita, these gestures are more than ceremonies. They are reminders that her story matters and that her legacy continues to inspire others.
“Now they’re holding me up as an example,” Anita shared with gratitude. “I’m so grateful.”
For retired Coast Guard leader and Community Hospice volunteer Donna Cottrell, visiting veterans like Anita is about more than recognition; it is about shared understanding. After serving 37 years before retiring in 2021, Donna knows firsthand the bond that forms between those who have served. “You walk in with something in common,” she said. “We don’t want anyone to feel forgotten, especially veterans.” Anita’s care team sees the impact these moments have every day.

Moments That Matter: Creating Joy Through Community
Moments of pure fun and connection can be hard to find. But through the generosity of community partners, donors, and supporters, special events throughout the year offer families opportunities to step away from the challenges of illness and simply enjoy being together. Events like These Kids Can Play, Jags for a Day, and ROARS and More offer something incredibly meaningful: experiences where children can be kids and families can create lasting memories without the burden of cost. Thanks to philanthropic support and funds raised through these initiatives, families attend free of charge, removing financial For many of the children and families served by Community Hospice & Palliative Care’s Community PēdsCare ® program, everyday life can be filled with medical appointments, treatments, and caregiving responsibilities.
barriers and opening the door to moments of joy they might not otherwise experience.
Each year, These Kids Can Play takes place at THE PLAYERS Championship, presented by EverBank and hosted in partnership with THE PLAYERS, PGA TOUR Wives, and The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation. Designed with inclusion and accessibility at its heart, the event gives children of all abilities the chance to explore, play, and connect in a welcoming environment. For families, it is more than a day of activities. It is a chance to pause, laugh together, and feel supported by a community that cares deeply about their journey.

During football season, Jags for a Day, presented by EverBank and The Jaguars Foundation, creates unforgettable memories for children and their families. From experiencing the excitement of game day to behind-the-scenes moments that bring them closer to the sport they love, the event reminds families that they are surrounded by a community cheering them on every step of the way. ROARS and More brings families together for a unique and magical evening at The Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens. While the event raises critical funds that directly support pediatric programs and services, it also allows families to explore, connect, and enjoy a special night together, creating memories that extend far beyond the event itself. Beyond the smiles and special moments, these events represent something deeper. They reflect a community coming together to support children facing serious illness and their families, ensuring that joy, connection, and celebration remain part of their story. Through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and partners, Community PēdsCare ® continues to provide not only compassionate clinical care but also meaningful experiences that bring comfort, laughter, and a sense of normalcy. Because sometimes, the greatest gift is simply the chance to be together.

For nearly three decades, Camp Healing Powers has been a place of healing, connection, and transformation for children and teens navigating the difficult journey of grief. What began in 1997 as a simple idea, bringing young grievers together so they do not have to walk their grief alone, has grown into one of the most cherished programs supported by Community Hospice & Palliative Care. Every year, children ages 7 to 17 arrive at the Marywood Retreat and Conference Center in St. Johns County carrying burdens no child should face alone. Some have lost a parent. Others a sibling, grandparent, or dear friend. What they all share is a deep need to be understood and supported.
Camp Healing Powers: Where Grief Meets Hope
8
At Camp Healing Powers, they find both. Campers participate in thoughtfully guided activities designed by bereavement specialists. Through group discussions, creative expression, and shared experiences, they learn to identify and express their feelings, develop healthy coping skills, and build friendships with peers who truly “get it.” It is more than a camp. It is a safe, nurturing community where laughter returns, memories are honored, and hope begins to take root again. Camp Healing Powers is offered at no cost to families, so every child who needs support can attend. The day includes trained bereavement counselors, meaningful activities, supplies, meals, and a team of compassionate volunteers who create a safe and welcoming environment from start to finish.
We celebrate Camp Healing Powers not just as a program, but as a testament to what a compassionate community can achieve together. Generously funded by the George M. Baldwin Fund of the United Way of Northeast Florida, Camp Healing Powers continues each year because people care deeply about making sure grieving children have a place to be seen, heard, and supported.

Healing Through Harmony
At Community Hospice & Palliative Care, music therapy is more than background sound. It is a clinical service provided by board-certified music therapists who use music intentionally to address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Whether helping manage pain and anxiety, supporting memory recall, easing grief, or creating meaningful legacy moments for families, music therapy meets patients exactly where they are. There are moments in serious illness when words feel hard to find. In those moments, music often speaks first.
meaningful melody. By tapping into the genres and music that resonate most with each individual, music therapists create deeply personal moments that bring comfort and familiarity into the care environment. Music can help reduce anxiety, support relaxation, regulate breathing, and create opportunities for connection between patients and their loved ones. In these moments, music becomes more than sound. It becomes a source of peace, presence, and shared experience.
Sometimes it looks like a music therapist sitting bedside with a guitar, gently playing a patient’s favorite song or

Signature events like Vets, Pets & Music Fest and Boots on the Green help raise critical funds to support the Music Therapy program. Vets, Pets & Music Fest brings families together for an evening of live music and celebration while also honoring veteran patients and supporting Pet Peace of Mind and music therapy services. Boots on the Green, hosted by the Healing Harmonies Music Therapy Committee, combines fellowship and philanthropy, uniting supporters who share a commitment to ensuring that patients receive holistic, compassionate care. Through sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations generated by these events, the Music Therapy program continues to grow and reach more patients and families across Northeast Florida. Because music therapy is not reimbursed at the level of many clinical services, philanthropy plays an essential role in sustaining and expanding this work. For patients and families, the impact is immediate and lasting. A song can lower a heart rate. A melody can calm fear. A shared chorus can create a connection when words are no longer enough.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, music continues to fill patient rooms, family homes, and inpatient centers with comfort, peace, and meaning.
In the quietest and most tender moments, it is often the music that lingers.
